Oh my gosh, thank you so much for this. I don’t struggle with my gender or sexuality at all but what you’re saying has made me realise that I struggle with my identity as a single person , and it’s been a bit source of self loathing and bitterness towards God.

As a disciple of Yeshua the Messiah, I have both friends and business associates who have adopted identities and lifestyles that are oppositional to Scripture and it doesn't matter to me because I love everyone who crosses my path. At the same time, it is my experience and observation that the only way to truly know who and what I am is to know the One who knew me from the foundation of the world and brought me into existence. My role in this world is to image the love of the Father into every person that ends up in front of me. If and when someone repents, receives Yeshua the Messiah and is filled with God's spirit then transformation occurs. I have watched hard-core dangerous sociopaths with warped and demonic sexual inclinations become whole, healed and transformed people who live out the will of God. Religion doesn't transform anyone into righteousness but a real relationship with Yahweh based on repentance and receiving Yeshua will.

I am not a big fan of the politics of it all...I do not like how corporations, politicians, activists, and others exploit people...
But! I had seen a theory recently that people being born gay/lesbian, or transgender/other divergent varieties...May have evolved to do so...Think about it. We are social animals...they say the more kids a woman has/if the food/environment isn't thriving, that mothers will be more likely to give birth to gay kids.
Now imagine if times are hard. That the eldest aunt/uncle had a few kids. And something happened to them. You have the non child bearing gay uncle/aunt to take care of the kids. If you think about it. For the larger family clan/unit, it is very beneficial for "godparents," without children of their own, to exist in the family.
That has always been the argument. "It is not natural to not have children. Even evolution wouldn't do it, because evolution is all about the survival of your genes."
Think about that part too...if you help raise nieces/nephews...they technically have a chunk of your "genes."
But yeh it was just some random theory I had heard. But I do think the general idea makes a bit of sense.
Another thing I hate. BOTH the anti gay, and pro LGBTq groups..MAKE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO DO SCIENTIFICALLY valid experiments.
Like with the current INSANE EXPONENTIAL increase in trans individuals.

I think Preston has a good heart (definitely doing God's work) and I am thankful Heather shared her story. Nevertheless, my concern from the comments posted is that many parents will take away from this interview that Heather's journey from Jamie and back to Heather is what God wants to happen with all transgender individuals and that their child's journey will or should end up the same as Heather's if they just keep the Faith. There are so many transgender people who are the subject of unspeakable violence and others who end their life in suicide because we as Christians do not accept the fact that they too are made in God's image and nothing is wrong with them as a transgender person. I would be interested to know after Heather's journey, does she still have same sex attraction? I am guessing the answer is yes because despite her love and devotion to God, her same sex attraction -just like her being transgender -is who she is. God loves her and she -is made in His image regardless of whether she identifies as Heather or Jaimie.

God makes no mistakes with someone's sex. Saying God loves you and you are still made in his image is all true but we still cant deny what the Bible teaches. It is not scriptural to live as the opposite sex nor to have same sex relations. You can love someone and still speak the truth.

Heather Skriba , You do NOT have the ability to read minds and determine that YOU are far more upset about using a gender neutral restroom than women are at now having men freely enter the women's restrooms and other women's facilities when we are there, often having entered this enclosed space alone or with our small children.
I have pity and sympathy for those who struggle with their sexuality or their gender or both. But I've become angered in recent years over the utter lack of respect flowing back to women, and even men, from the transgender identifying people.
If you want to be serious about making the world a better place for people that are going through this struggle, advocate for the addition of more gender neutral spaces - enough to actually completely fulfill the need. And advocate for those who are still struggling with this issue to consider how they treat others to respect us as fellow human beings instead of just so flippantly throwing women under the bus while demanding that we respect transgender people by gaslighting ourselves for you and politely annihilating our most basic boundaries and most basic human right to the most minimal of boundaries for physical safety and mental and emotional wellbeing.
You can't make it a war against women and those who are struggling with gender dysphoria and other identity issues and related issues and expect it to go well for anybody.
Let me put it this way. If transgender identifying people as a group are going to force me to choose sides - mine or theirs - do you honestly think I'm going to just roll over and self destruct for your benefit? Really? Look up what's happening to women in prison now that men are being given the opportunity to choose which prison they'd like to serve their time in. It's based on the same selfish, flippant, hateful logic you use regarding restrooms.

Listening and asking questions is good advice for relating in godliness to anyone. It is nothing more than trusting God and really believing that through the Holy Spirit he has been mending and is mending still. Look at how God revealed the real problem of hating herself, not just her gender. He didn’t rush in and stop the surgery but allowed her to discover for herself that she was on the wrong track.
I think of how Jesus foretold that Peter would deny him but didn’t try to stop him. Jesus wasn’t giving up on him, but he was confident in his own work in Peter to get him over this hurdle and deepen his spiritual growth. Thank you both for this enlightening discussion.

I decided to post this as its own comment instead of as a response elsewhere on this page to a transgender woman that commented on her strong desire and presumed right to use women's regrooms instead of the gender neutral. I decided not to post it as a response to her because I have been very well trained by a transgender loved one in my life to lie for my loved ones benefit, gaslight myself for my loved ones benefit, and just roll over and take it for my loved ones benefit. And I'm finding that no matter what my loved one or other transgender identifying people do to me and other women, I am unable to break this conditioning.
"But you give no care at all to the terror many women go through in finding a male person in the restroom when we went in alone and then a male person decides to violate a space that is created specifically for women's privacy from men. And the terror you put many women through and the very real danger you put many women in by normalizing male people having free access to spaces that were literally created for the safety and privacy of women.
I am truly sorry for your suffering. I have a very dear loved one who identifies as transgender. And like you, could not care less about the women he so freely violates.
I truly believe all people have equal value and are equally deserving of love and care. I just don't understand the extreme arrogance and selfishness of this ideology that leads male people to say they know what it feels like to be a woman. I actually am a woman and I would not even make such an arrogant claim as to claim to know what any other woman feels. A woman is not a feeling anyway. It's just a biological category based on the reproductive binary.
And then to determine that they suffer more than women, which is again claiming to know what every woman feels. To claim that they are far more upset over using a gender neutral restroom than a woman who has been sexually abused by men throughout childhood and adolescence, or who is a rape survivor feels when she goes into a restroom alone and then a man comes into this secluded closed off space. As if you know what I'm feeling in that terrifying moment so you can compare and deem yourself as having far, far more value than a woman.
To determine that your routine violation of women is justified because you claim as a man to know better than I do what it 'feels like' to be a woman. And to determine that the comfort you are only capable of finding by routinely violating women this way is justified because you claim to know what I feel and therefore it's up to you to decide that it's far more important for you to violate me than for me to have access to a women's only restroom. And changing room. And locker room. And sleeping quarters in a shelter, dormitory or other facility.
It's the deep, deep selfishness, arrogance and apparent hatred of women that flows from this movement and ideology that has finally gotten to me. And it comes from both sides. Men that identify as transgender women do this to women and violate our right to even the most minimal of boundaries. Women that identify as transgender men and make themselves appear to be men also do this same thing to women. Claiming they are the ones that know what the rest of us feel, and therefore determining their wants to be far, far more important than our actual needs.
So whichever direction a person transgenders from and to, this has become a 100% hateful, anti-woman, arrogant and extremely selfish social and civil movement.
And it does not have to be. Transgender identifying people have chosen to make it be so. All because they don't want to use gender neutral spaces and they claim to have supreme knowledge and rights to absolutely annihilate women's safety, boundaries, rights, and any semblance of mental wellbeing.
You don't want to be treated equally. That would involve actually using gender neutral spaces and allowing both men and women to have the same safety, and mental and emotional wellbeing you want (and you deserve) by being allowed to keep single sex spaces single sex. Based on sex, not on a feeling of identity."

Wow, REALLY enjoyed listening to this share and when you all were talking about how God is just so confident in who He is- He's not afraid of our doubts...I remembered one time when I was going through such a rocky time in my faith- I had a million questions and doubts (maybe not that many) and I remember I was on a trip in South Africa and I was standing looking out over these hills and I felt that God said to me, "I am a living God." That's it. He didn't answer all of my questions but that is what my heart needed to hear at that moment. He knows what we're searching for- He knows how to find us even when we don't know how to find Him and I just want to pray for everyone and anyone who has reached out to Him and felt He was far away- the Bible says He is "not far from any of us" (Acts 17:27) and we also have an enemy who throws everything at us that He can but the Bible promises if we seek Him with all of our hearts, we will find Him. If you're still alive, you still have some heart left to seek Him and He still has a plan for you! Jeremiah 29:11-13

I appreciate Heather's candidness and I found her very likable. With that said, I didn't think the interview always pointed toward truth. A transexual/homosexual person doesn't have a place in the church, teaching children, etc... until those behaviors are behind them ("as you once were" Cor 6:11). The church doesn't exist to affirm you where you are at, or cater to football/knitting preferences...it exists to lead you to Christ who died on the cross for the sins of His people. If you want to come to church as an unbeliever, that's different, but if you claim Christ and participate in sexual sins, Christians are instructed not to associate with you (1 Cor 5:11). Overall this video seemed like a combination of Christian and worldly beliefs.

I don't understand it the whole video seemed to be how this woman felt what the church could do for her everything was truly about her. I believe that is idol worship at his worst form. I truly hope that she comes out whole through all this process and learns to give of herself to others rather than looking at how she feels about everything.

God doesn't make mistakes. We were created perfectly by him. Sin has corrupted his perfect creation. Taking scripture out of context to dismiss Sin and fleshly desire is to reject God truth. A believer in Christ doesn’t make them saved from sin. We DESERVE nothing. How we feel matters not. Actually, when Christ transforms our hearts it changes our desires to be strictly for Him and purpose. Remember, we are sheep with a Shepherd so we use His word as authority not our feelings! I mean literally our lives here on earth matters not except to do whatever to bring others to Him and use your gift only for the common good. Literally personal desire is last. Worldly comfort is meaningless. Inner comfort is everything, but not through our desires, through the Spirit!
Our confidence should ONLY be in Him. Our hearts are deceitful from youth. The only thing helpful about this dialogue is highlighting the true need for the gospel...for these confused transgender/homosexuals that read their views into Scripture. This taints the word of God, also we are to judge. Read Matthew 7 in context and please don’t stop after verse 1. Those that don’t want to be judged by other believers worry about the wrong thing. WE NEED TO BE CHECKED. That’s why we gather...to avoid being led astray like this. Western “Christianity” is unfortunately taking a turn.
Please repent. Don’t be so open minded! Close our minds to the gospel, Christ is God incarnate, died for our sin as the penalty BECAUSE WE ARE ALL HEADED TO BE DESTROYED WITHOUT HIM, and he raised from the dead to bring us all the way to victory!
This person leads some to believe that if “doors” open that God approves!?!? 🤦🏻‍♂️ No, but God will give you over to a debased mind. Repent from this! It’s not about a place to belong! Looking for a place not to suffer and not to feel shame that sounds like conforming to the world.
    Repent!!!

Heather mentioned that having bathrooms open to men that identify with being a woman is wrong to disallow this. She mentioned that criminals/pedophiles are going to do what they’re going to do even if they were not allowed in the bathrooms/ locker rooms/ dressing etc. I don’t believe it would be the same if they didn’t allow this. it’s kind of like you have your door of your house locked versus unlocked, there would be more people that would come in if they know it’s easier access. There are those few that are taking advantage of the easy opportunity. This should always be a safe place for women, and it is not with these policies coming into place. Biological boys should not be allowed to go into girls locker rooms, girls bathrooms. Unfortunately, it’s that small number of criminals/pedophiles that are taking advantage of this not the main majority of trans that are just trying to live their life.

What if the person is an individual born Intersex in the 1970's who the physicians mutilated and tried to make one gender with surgery and those person is the other? what if the individual has XXY chromosomes or chromosomes other than XX or XY. I agree and that is the larger problem with the picking on sins false salvation, instead of the simple gospel of believe in what Christ did for us and receiving eternal life as a free gift, without any works or promises, or exchanges. At one point she/he said that they gave their life to Christ. Hum, that is not salvation that is some kind of discipleship action. Christ gave his life for us. On Preston's web site they have the repent of sins to be saved false salvation. People don't reason this out if you have to repent of sins, that means turn from sins, stop sinning to be saved. Then how many, which ones, all of them. By their own doctrine anyone who is not sinless is going to hell, and they have to stop sinning to get saved for heaven. This makes this whole interview a false hood or a proof that they are woke and they really have no grounds for their faith at all since they can change any of it. Sorry, get the right gospel that anyone can believe and receive and you won't have to slip and slide around your false salvation teaching, and now we can move one to what do you do with people that have any obvious sin habits or problems in the church..

If one truly repents and believes the gospel the Holy Spirit will indwell within them making them more holy and changing thier life as time goes by. The Bible says they will be a new creature. Not perfect, but a new creature. I have seen people who have repented and there was dramatic change in their life. If you are the same person after you got "saved" then one should question if they were truly saved. If they justify sins and a lifestyle then it was more than likely a false conversion.

I want to understand why the US and UK (possibly some other Western countries) are experiencing so much hate and division, and are adopting legislation making it possible to criminalize free speach, to drastically infringe women's rights and to demolish milennia old cultural values. Since we, in the East, were always looking up to the West, this is something very difficult to understand: the West taking down the West!! As I see it, so far, the problems (psychological) of a tiny tiny tiny portion of the population are transferred to the whole nation who has to feel guilty for their problems in perpetuity. And pay (literally) for it. I am astonished of how much hate is coming from, generally trans quarters, and filling the social media. I am also astonished by how treatments not FDA approved are given to children and still growing young people, thus making them subjects of dangerous experiments. I feel like I am watching a medical horror movie, such as "Coma"-1978....I do hope and pray that you find your way back to social peace and balance. We come thru the woman, the flesh, and are born into sin - We then take on the evil nature of our mothers. Once we begin to transgress, this is the great news. But pride keeps most, not all, but most from seeing they NEED forgiveness. But the only way to RECEIVE forgiveness and enter the Inner Kingdom, is to go and forgive! And this starts with mama. [See, Jesus, is the only one who did not transgress - he did not need to forgive his mother, b/c he did not have hate - he could just denounce her publicly -]

I'm glad that Heather was able to share her story in this way. As someone who ultimately disagrees with the view that transitioning is necessarily sinful, I like that Heather does not seek to universalise her story in order to force trans people to de-transition, though I do fear that some people might seek to use her story to do that in ways that both Heather and Preston probably don't agree with.
I do agree that the culture at large glorifies being LGBTQ+ more than it should. Whilst I do not believe that being in a same-sex marriage (please look at this issue from both sides before commenting) or transitioning are necessarily sinful, it can definitely be an idol. We should never, ever elevate transitioning or being in a relationship or marriage (either same- or opposite-sex) as our ultimate fulfilment. Doing so just sets us up for failure when it comes to life happiness because only Jesus can fill the God-shaped hole in each of our hearts.
I also think that more therapy needs to be done when it comes to trans people. As mentioned before, secular culture can sometimes (though not always) glorify being trans to the point of sometimes encouraging people to transition when they don't need to. I do not think that transitioning should ever be taken lightly (I mean, you would be annoyed if a doctor didn't bother to work out exactly what was wrong with you but just assumed and gave you the wrong treatment), especially when any kind of childhood abuse is in the picture too. Our parents' attitude towards us can really skew our views of ourselves (I was very fortunate when it came to parents) and I wholeheartedly agree with this article when applied to childhood sexual abuse or parents abusing their children in other ways: goodmenproject.com/featured-content/identity-in-a-fog-lbkr/
But really, I'm happy that, whatever it took, Heather was able to come to a place of happiness and peace in her own life. I just hope so much that her story is not used as a sacred weapon to force trans people into de-transitioning when they don't feel comfortable doing that.

I enjoyed the story because it did help me better understand the inner struggle that a person suffering from gender dysphoria goes through. So, thank you to Heather for having the courage to share.
My only contention is at the end when Preston asks the question (paraphrasing), “How would you like to see the church improve how it engages the transgender conversation, and what would it look like for the church to cultivate healthy spaces for people to work through their gender identity?”
What? Preston, the church isn’t about providing safe spaces for sin. None of us should desire to be in a place where we hear the things we want to hear, and are allowed to be who we want to be. The church is the body of Christ-an assembly of believers who are seeking to please the Father, do His will, lay down our pride and egos, cleanse our hearts and minds, practice righteousness, expose darkness, and not be conformed to this world but be transformed into the image of Christ.
Questions like that, and the advice Heather gave in response to it, may make us feel loving and kind and tolerant, but they will ultimately lead us away from the truth and from God’s will.
Heather advised that church leaders actively choose to defend LGBT individuals even if it means running off their straight members. That is completely misguided and carnal. Church leaders should not defend anything accept the word of God, the faith handed down from the apostles, the gospel of Jesus Christ, the truth it proclaims, and the flock they oversee from deception and false teachings. They should not ever tolerate or defend anyone who is unrepentant or sowing confusion and false doctrine.
“Put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regards to its lusts.”
    - Romans 13:14
We should love all people by telling the the good news that Jesus Christ offers a new identity; a new creation; complete forgiveness; healing for brokenness; love, hope and power to change; peace, joy, mercy, and grace.

Please forgive me if this story is considered inappropriate within this context? Whether anyone considers themselves christian or not, may I please include some extra nuance to your conversation? I have no intention of attempting any kind of evangelization in my contribution, I would however like to supply some extra dimension to the discourse. To advance some concepts I would like to present some quotes.
    First:
Isa 56:4-5 KJV 4 For thus saith the LORD unto the eunuchs that keep my sabbaths, and choose the things that please me, and take hold of my covenant; 5 Even unto them will I give in mine house and within my walls a place and a name better than of sons and of daughters: I will give them an everlasting name, that shall not be cut off.
    Second:
Mat 19:11-12 KJV 11 But he said unto them, All men cannot receive this saying, save they to whom it is given. 12 For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother's womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.
    Third:
Act 8:26-40 KJV (The baptism of the eunuch which I consider too long to be quoted here but far from inconsequential.)
I would love to note first that the term eunuch in these quotes seems to be defined by the Lord Jesus himself to include intersex individuals (eunuchs, which were so born from their mother's womb). Unwilling (some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men) and willing individuals (eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs) appear similarly defined.
May I also note the quote (unto them will I give in mine house and within my walls a place and a name better than of sons and of daughters). I am aware that original Hebrew literally is translated "a hand and a name" greater than of sons and of daughters. I am, however, quite intrigued by the implications that eunuchs are given recognition separate from sons and from daughters.
I consider myself to be trans (eunuch, saris adam, barren (Isa 54:1-17)). I am not exactly a son and not exactly a daughter. I have a woefully masculine face and physique but I am definitely not a son (AMAB MTF post SRS (GRS)). Therefore I do not fit in sons' spaces or daughters' spaces.
I have immersed myself in the historical, philosophical, psychological, political and theological literature and media for a significant portion of seven decades and conclude that I am physically, politically, perceptually and theologically non-binary. Psychologically, I have identified as female since the age of two or three but diligent discipline discouraged any hint or discussion of my feminine identity or behavior. My ideal puberty would have included hormone blockers until a legally acceptable age to begin HRT and GRS (SRS) and then as nearly normal womanhood as attainable.
In actuality, the diligent discipline has induced my voluntary celibacy and perception that I have been insidiously gaslighted and have a subtle incidence of complex traumatic stress disorder by the dismissing, ignoring, denying and suppressing of my gender identity. I am just one of my peers who is the quarry for metaphorical, euphemistic and literal physical erasure. My concern is not just psychological, health or culture. This is the challenge and analysis of my right to true Judeo-Christian observance and Judeo-Christian expression and Judeo-Christian faith.
I hope my comments and the quotes are discovered to be beneficial. I pray that nothing is found to be triggering because my intent was to be somehow loving, compassionate and empathetic to each and everyone. If you have deigned to read this entire comment, thank you much!

We grow up in many traumas of not fitting in the mold others tell us we are supposed to be. But God doesnt lie. We do have to heal it is mighty scary. I love people where they are at in life and so trust if they talk to God they will hear from him whatever that is. I had a ballet teacher that felt like telling us why he was gay once . He said his mother had forced him to have sex with her a a child and now the thought of a vagina sickens him him . Trauma it makes sense a person would feel this way . I met a man that was transition in the early nineties he said its too hard being a man for me i am short bald etc. but he was going to be a lesbian. I was like I hope yoy find toyr peace but that answer sounded luke a cop out . But at the same time I understood why he could feel this way . He wanted hair extensions could be very fit felt he could be a happier prettier woman, than a short ugly man. But he wanted to just jump one day going into women’s dressing room with male anatomy without discussing it first to the gym . It does take understanding and talking to get to a place of peace. That will make like what you have done in life with the ann arbor church and this video more understandable and gives many people knowledge of what a person is gong through.

Your video came up in my feed so I watched it. I'm truly happy for her that she has peace. However, I did notice a couple of things. She didnt speak once of repentance & the importance of it. Also, she said God spoke to her. I'm interested to know what she has garnered from scripture other than leaving the 99 for the 1, which is taken out of context.

If stopping transitioning, focusing on her relationship with God, and embracing herself as a woman is not repentance, please share what is.

Beautiful! I have a question. Earlier in Heather's story she shares about the impact of her parents and their parenting and examples (negative) - later she tells parents to let off the pressure that it is their fault. Which is it? I hear this from parents as well. Can it be the fault of the parent? Or, as Heather said, that is her experience, but not that of others. How impactful are the parents here? Thanks for some direction.

Do you think it could be both? In my experience, I have received wounds from my parents, and those have contributed to my struggles with self-image and identity. However, I would not want my parents to blame themselves for that bc 1. My journey is MY journey and I need to accept responsibility for my thoughts and beliefs about myself and 2. It isn’t helpful for my parents to blame themselves. Yes, we can discuss my wounds and they can apologize for hurting me, but ultimately the healing comes when I start believing truth, not when they blame themselves.
      What do you think??

    • @DrCoreyGilbert
      @DrCoreyGilbert 4 года назад +2

@@aleece4 Yes - both. I am with you. In the end though, no matter fault (and I think we focus in there way too much at times - blame) After the fact - it is now on that person to bear the weight of it and learn to deal with it. This becomes SO HARD. This is a difficult journey - especially alone. We must also be careful whom we invite into that journey. Do we want people in our life that tell us what THEY think we want to hear - or people that challenge us to be better than we can even see for ourselves. Another tough one. Great thoughts. Blessings to you aleece4.

Cane chose his offering to God based on his lifestyle choices and unlike able who followed gods plan.. I'm stovking with able and letting the Bible dictate my lifestyle rather than trying to do like the chaldees and create God in the image of human selfish wants and needs or to interpret it to fit human lifestyle.

Assigning female qualities to the Holy Spirit is terribly wrong. God is a being who is defined as totally "other" There is no one like Him. He is revealed as "I AM WHO AM" when Moses asked who shall I tell Pharaoh who sent me?
The Bible has all one needs for life and godliness.
God has shared His mind with any true believer in Christ.

God also revealed his character qualities to Moses in Exodus 34, some of the qualities that he revealed had very definite feminine characteristics. If God is totally other, why can we assign masculine qualities to Him? Not to say that I don’t agree- yes, obviously He’s holy and completely separate from us, but he has stooped to our level and by His great grace relates to us on our terms sometimes! How awesome is that? The God of the universe comforts us with love like a mother. Actually, a mother’s love is just a picture of how God really loves and comforts us. Just some thoughts.

@@hannahdenny6302 Actually that’s incorrect - the original Greek word for Spirit ‘autos’ which is translated into your English Bible as he or it is actually more correctly he/it/or she (see romans 8:16 for an example of when autos is used to refer to the Spirit). The word Greek word ‘pneuma’ is gender neutral (neither female or male) , & the Hebrew word for spirit ‘ruach’ is actually feminine (gen 2: 7).

Nowhere in the scripture is God described as a female. Israel is even called his wife. A female.
Jesus even said God created them male and female. Not male and female then other.
