    You guys are the few Christians reaching out to gays. I was converted to Christ 30 years ago, but I am being rejected as gay even though I am resolute to follow the Lord in celibacy. I am Cuban of origin, and came to US in 1990. My congregation is also Spanish, and very prejudiced against homosexuals. Please, keep us in your prayers because I'm a true believer. I would love to talk to someone who is able or willing to listen and guide me. I am praying daily for guidence. Thank you ❤

      They don't want me to speak a word there, sister. I've tried and they denied me. They have shut the door for a sinner of my "kind"
      I love the Lord and the Lord Jesus loves me. Their attitude have not changed my heart or mind about the Lord and His Word. I struggle with my sin daily. I know I've been forgiven and Justified in virtue of Christ's atoning death and resurrection. By His grace I still devoted to Bible study and prayer. Therefore I know He will open doors for me. Please keep me in your prayers. ❤

      @@lienlael3196 Bless you for sharing your heart with strangers! It pains me that your congregation is not supporting you in your struggles. We all sin, we all have our certain area of weakness, and they are not all the same. Just as we are all created with different personalities and body types, we are all drawn to different flames of sin. You are brave to confess yours not only to God, but aloud to the world! And you know as a believer, God will never leave you or forsake you.

    I am retired and transitioned M to F in 1990 with Dr, Seghers, Brussels, Belgium. As a young pre-school individual, I cried when my father had me get a brush-cut, rather than let me have long hair. A relative, two generations younger is going through transgender change. I suffered horribly before transitioning but had such peace after transitioning.

    Great interview! If I was a kid growing up during this time, I would have labeled myself transgender. As far back as I could remember, I wore boys clothes, played boy games, and had boy friends. I cut my hair short and would not wear a bra when the time came. I looked like a boy and many people thought I was, which made me super happy. I remember crying myself to sleep, wishing I was born a boy.
    When Preston shared the statistics of adolescents that reverse this gender dimorphism at puberty as over 60%, I thought, wow that was me. When I went through puberty (rather late) I started to be interested in wearing more feminine clothes, wearing makeup, interested in boys, etc. I was 15 years old. My personality didn’t change, I still am more analytical and less emotional, (which are stereotypes of course), but I wonder how my mental health would be today if puberty blockers and hormones were being pushed on children in the 1980s???

    • @nicolab2075
      @nicolab2075 2 года назад

      An interest in climbing trees changing after puberty into an interest in makeup is nothing to do with gender dysphoria.
      Dysphoria is a conviction that your assigned gender is the wrong one. There are girly trans men and trans women who like cars.

    • @taramckinley7585
      @taramckinley7585 2 года назад +3

      I think back in the 80's, girls were just allowed to be "tomboys" at a young age and not labeled as "trans" because we liked more masculine clothing, games, sports, guy friends, etc. We were allowed to mature normally as opposed to being indoctrinated into a particular group think. I think the majority of this issue is a cultural one right now- not an organic one. The statistics for "transgenderism" in America have gone up exponentially the last several years, and that isn't a normal occurrence. That's not to say there arent people with legitimate body dysmorphia, it's just such a minute number compared to what we're led to believe.

    • @TheBottemLine
      @TheBottemLine Год назад +1

      Most women go through these feelings when they are children befor puberty. And so do some men when your a child you can play dress up as a woman. This does not mean you are a woman if you are a man and it does not mean you are a boy if you were born a girl. It means you liked the opposite sex and admired how or what you thought there life was like, or wanted to play dress up and have fun, or just liked acting that way for fun, or wasn't guided and or just liked the opposite sex stereotype things. . So you wanted to identify with that nature. But that is why it's so true that God doesn't make mistakes and shows us who we are by staying the course and embracing our God given male or female genders and yes that means sex to. So when we do that we can be comfortable in our own skin. Remember that God made us all peculiar. In fact it says in the Bible. We are a peculiar people , that means strange or unusual. That means that God made us all individual and special. Just because you have masculine traits and your a girl does not mean you are a boy. And vise versa, just because you have feminine features higher check bone structure or feminine hands or features as a man does not make you a woman. Out genders are not changeable. We need to embrace who we are as individuals and as the sex and gender God has made us to be. When we do that there is no need to change anything . God says to come as yoy are.that means nothing added and nothing changed. So we can be ourselves and realize that God loves us unconditionally. Once we recognize this and then know what sins are and then man or woman we can strive to not sin. That is what is biblical to confess our sins one to another and lift each other up and to deny and turn from our sins. But most want to have permission to sin from there fellow man. Thus the homosexual agenda and the Trans movement now it shows people pushing to want there sins accepted. If I went to you and was a person who constantly lied and said just accept me for who I am . If I'm lieing is that a sin ? The answer is yes. Should I expect others to just embrace that? No ofcourse not. And that is what people are doing when forcing a Trans agenda there asking us to embrace that they are a lier. Because God made them male and female if your born a woman you are a woman. I'm not talking about intersex people. Those are an exception and we need to realize that God has come in Jesus to set the captives free. You are freed in Jesus name amen. You can embrace who God created you to be. Don't be a lier .if your born a man you are a man. God can not be mocked. Let's celebrate who we as God has created us to be. In all our complexities. Just because you are a bit endogenous does not mean you can change or would beable to change your sex. It just means your endogenous. Your still a man or your still a female. Godbless you all.

    I am a transgender Exvangelical. I didn't want to leave my faith, but I found the Evangelical church's answers to LGBTQ issues too unjust. I appreciate the admonition for Evangelicals to use our pronouns. With how I present, it would be awkward at this point to do otherwise. But also, I can assure you, trans people do not take your use of our pronouns as advocating our choices. You all have made that abundantly clear. If you choose to use my pronouns, I assume you are just being civil. And I very much appreciate it.

      It's honestly just basic courtesy. I'm an evangelical Christian years ago I was going to church and thought I found a potential good friend, but she cursed a lot and so I asked her to please not do it in front of me. She refused and I broke off the budding friendship because if you cannot afford me that simple respect as a human being, much less being of a religion that advocates respect, there's no way I can trust you to do more in depth things. It's the same with people who are trans. I'm sorry that you got such rejection from Christians. I may disagree on it, but I'm never not going to be respectful about it. I'm glad I found Sean's channel because honestly it's discouraging how no one seems to be speaking up about being respectful so it's extremely refreshing to see.

    I would not have suggested this in the last century but in the 21st century I see a very big spiritual battle component as far as why we see such an unprecedented rise in identifying as transgender. While I appreciated this conversation and the loving tone, I feel like it was lacking a very large component by leaving out how the Enemy uses this issue for his purposes in these last days that I believe we are in. So it was great and helpful but incomplete in my mind. I do see it, in part, as a huge spiritual battleground. We ignore this to our collective failure. Fighting this spiritual battle is part of loving people.

    All of the questions regarding how to deal with people who struggle with these issues really share the same answer. God is the only one who will judge mankind and His Word is our guide. We should love people as best we can. Some we will pour vast amounts of time into. Others we will not be as dedicated to. However, we do not show love to others by placating them. Whenever the opportunity presents itself, whenever the Spirit opens up an opportunity, we should always point people to scripture. Let scripture do the judging. That means we should always be prepared to defend our faith and to present scripture to help others find Christ.

    I now see the definition of trans spoken by speaker as alluding to cisgender people who experience gender nonconformity. The speaker's definition of transgender where person has an internal sense of who they are gender wise to be incongruent to their biological sex to mean the person is actually their biological sex but experiences dysphoria with regards to their "actual gender identity based on biological sex". Your definition of transgender defines trans people as cisgender people who experience another gender because they feel this incongruence.
    This helps explain why trans people are having to justify their position, because trans people are seen as cisgender.

However recently I’ve been studying my Tanakh in Hebrew more and I’ve been listening to these videos and I love the compassionate and nuanced way that Dr. McDowell deals with these very hard subjects as it pertains to the historic Christian faith. Because of all this I’m becoming more sure about Jesus being Mashiach but I still really want nothing to do with organized religion and though I believe the Hebrew bible and the New Testament particularly the 4 Gospels contain divinely inspired content I’m not convinced that the whole canon does because human tradition decided the canon of scripture and how do we know that the sages of blessed memory at the council of Yavne in the year 90 that decided the canon of the Hebrew bible or that the Catholic bishops at the council of Carthage in the year 397 that decided on the NT canon were right? In regards to the trans ideology I would also say that I find it ironic that the same leftists who say that men can’t opine on abortion because they can’t get pregnant and it’s a women’s issue oftentimes will say that gender is just a societal construct and that any man can identify as a woman and should be recognized as such. They are talking out of both sides of their mouths. Especially when they also say that men can get periods and can get pregnant too because if that’s true then why would abortion be just a women’s issue?

    Great discussion and model for a pastoral approach to dealing with trans folks as human beings and not merely discussing intellectual or theological positions. As a minister, I search for pastoral language that is both loving and truthful. One truth I did not hear, that would have been helpful to so may of us listeners, is the teaching of the bible on the fact that same sex sexual acts are always described as sin. While I'm keenly aware of how the word "sin" has often been over used and wielded like a baseball bat, I think something important is missing when the word sin is completely avoided and left out of the discussion. This piece was not a part of your conversation. Love without truth is neither loving or true. If same sex activity is sin and a serious enough sin to keep someone out of heaven, then at some point, this needs to enter the conversation. I would like to hear Preston's take on how to do this. My first question is does Preston believe this should ever be done? I don't believe the idea of "sin" is the 1st thing to bring up but I think there comes a point at which it is appropriate. I believe 1st comes mystery, then comes morality. After a connection takes place with God, one becomes moved to follow God's moral law, not the other way around. So, are we to avoid the term "sin" altogether or find a place for it as Christians? If something is NOT as in, why would I need to repent of it? Repentance is needed for salvation, according to Jesus. How are we to be mindful of facilitation necessary repentance while being loving at the same time?

    So basically: under this shows view, a person's actual gender identity is their biological sex. To them, gender identity is a biological gender identity, gender identity rooted in the body.
    So biological sex itself is the gender identity where one's internal sense of gender (who they are) is rooted in their biological construction as traditionally labeled male or female by society.
    So these folks who say "biological sex" don't know they are cisgender. Even the definition of transgender being that one's gender identity sense is incongruent to their "actual gender identity, being rooted in their socially assigned gender identity rooted in the body" is a cisgender definition of transgender.
    Transgender is understood differently from both trans and cisgender people.

    I have done a lot of research myself into this as well. Loving yes, but it wasn't fully clear to me that you made the distinction between biblical loving and affirming or being nice. A bit politically portrayed. Unfortunately, I believe since the book was written the problem has only increased. With messaging entering several more public schools. I appreciate the loving approach, but at the same time there needs to be firmer stances on a lot of issues, because at the rate we're going we won't be able to properly preach the gospel at all and will be giving everyone watered down truth. But that's personally what I would've wanted, I was frustrated after I was saved at a point when I realized how many people who were saved never questioned me on why I called myself a Christian, but was very much in my sin. Well Because I only kept hearing that God loved me regardless of anything and didn't really hear hard truth, which I would've appreciated looking back.
    It worked out eventually, but at the same time, dealing with people pointing out my hypocrisy could've helped me to not have to suffer through the pains that eventually brought me to Christ. I know a lot of people find Christ through pain, and even though I feel like I could've been convicted in my heart if I really understood or heard the truth I suppose I don't really know. But God did use the non-believers who ended up pointing out my hypocrisy to begin convicting my heart, I just hope that there are more brothers and sisters in Christ will to be honest and convicting on things they have figured out, we're not called to not judge, but only to judge once dealing with our own issues in the same way. I also am interested in whether you're effective with this approach, because it wasn't clear whether the LGBTQ friends you are talking about have been saved. Like actually saved, have repented, filled with the Holy Ghost and are being sanctified. I feel like I may be walking away with more questions than answers, cause there was a lot of vagueness unfortunately. But I appreciate what you're doing, I understand you're trying to put your heart in the right place I don't really wholly disagree with you on anything.
    I personally appreciate bluntness, love of course, but honesty and directness. I feel like since the church has been beating around on everything including the supernatural power of God we're at the point we're at in the west and we need to take the lead on offensive, with speaking truth boldly. I think it bothers me more because I want children and I'm frustrated that I don't feel like I can even send them to school in the future without being brainwashed and indoctrinated, because we can't stand firm. I myself can look back and see how twisted and brainwashed I was by the public school system. A place my mom had no choice, but to send me.

And I think it partly has to do with how limited your acceptance of societal pressure is. Over the past century, the separation of the sexes has been imbued into every aspect of our lives. From fashion to status to political power to toys… you name it. So, by the time a child is 2, they are very much aware of what society wants them to be. If they feel differently inside, the stress begins that early. It’s not just about outward prejudice, it’s about the subtle programming that lies within every aspect of our society.

Things that we describe as feminine, such as wearing makeup or liking cute things, but in places like Korea and Japan guys will wear eyeliner and lipstick and like cute stuff and it's not a big deal. In America if a guy kisses another guy anywhere they're gay. In places such as Italy giving a kiss on both cheeks is just a way to say hello. I think it's important to keep in mind that different cultures look at femininity and masculinity stereotypes in different ways, so these things aren't set in stone.

    In a study done by Ireland and Pennebaker in 2010, where they tried to see if play writers naturally knew how men and women spoke, there was an interesting find.
    In some movies, the female characters talked like (everyday) females and the male character talked like (normal) males, no matter if it was a male or a female play writer. But there was also a bunch of movies where both men and women sounded like women and a third categorie of movies where both man and women sounded like men (again, this was true whether the screen writer was a man or a woman). There were even movies where men sounded even more feminine than the females in the movie (as was the case of the role being played by Brad Pitt in Thelma & Louise).
    What immediately stood out to me, is how I have seen (or have heard of) more movies from the latter two categories, where gender speech doesn't match biological gender. It made me think of your discussions on the topic and I wondered if you know of any study (or maybe it's a nice question for an upcoming new debate on the topic) that tried to uncover the correlation between movies where males and females speak dis-accordingly to their gender and have this correlated with (later) gender dysphoria. I mean.. if so many Hollywood movies we see on the screen are played by women sounding like men and vice versa..that must have an impact on how we view men and women..

    As to what to call them pronoun wise if you're in a friendship with somebody and they come out as trans I think it's appropriate to do a bit of both sides. Say hey you know I disagree on the issue but I love you and it's your life so I'll respect that decision and use the pronoun that you wish and the name that you wish to go by. If you are uncomfortable using the pronouns just say the person's name instead. If you can't reconcile doing either then for both the transperson's sake and your sake it's better to end the friendship because there's going to be no positive that comes from that. And if you can't pay respect to that I think you need to check your heart because that's not loving your neighbor as yourself.

    I feel deep compassion for anyone struggling this way. It must be very difficult. I believe anyone wanting to live their lives the way that makes them happy is not for anyone to judge unless of course someone is a Christian and would like assistance. Even then any council must be done very lovingly and thoughtfully. It's such a complex yet tender subject and peoples hearts are so vulnerable. I think the problem I have and this guest mentioned it briefly, is with those activists who have been able to convince the educational systems to introduce curriculums that are so obviously not age appropriate. I believe their is a definite agenda brought on by the LGBT and they added the T so now it's all if it. It's not necessary to teach children about these things so young, but their thoughts are to get to them as young as possible. I learned this by researching Roz Ward and some others. I don't appreciate their somewhat devious plan that is currently underway.

Prayer, family and the church made my life a living hell for many years, all because I was different, because I didn't fit in to the traditional box of "boy/male."

    Even if you think "male and female he created them " is prescriptive, it would still allow people to change an assigned identity: nothing in the book about that. Still only M/F.

    Is it ok to call someone by their chosen pronoun? I am not sure if it's right as a Christian. (My 13 yr old granddaughter says she is non-binary & her parents support this & want me to call her "they & them".

    I love your show. But I have to say I feel that the discussion here about whether or not society's non-acceptance of trans people and how much pain it causes them upsetting. It feels like throwing a carpet over the elephant in the room that everybody already knows is there so that we can continue justifying people's non-acceptance.Who needs a study to know that this kind of thing is hurtful? I don't need to study to know that bullying is hurtful. and I imagine it would take an enormous amount of energy and research to prove it. but no one needs it proven to them. We all know it. It's the same thing with how transgender people are treated and reviled.
    Also, isn't the world fallen? Aren't things not as they are supposed to be? Am I supposed to be severely dyslexic? Or should a person born an amputee or blind not have those issues fixed if Medical Science can do that? Why do so many of my fellow Christians seem to be just fine with changing the disabilities and shortcomings that others are born with? but not in this case? no apparently in this case nothing is ever messed up and should not be helped?If we apply this kind of thinking to other ailments and mental issues wouldn't we have to deny all medical treatment?
    I truly feel that in this case people are just uncomfortable with the subject and are letting those feelings overrule their logic and even compassion.

    42:ish This is all pretty interesting. This plays into non-binary narratives and cross dressing discussions. Those are both culturally arbitrary areas. Many Christian churches are very rigid on gender designations. It sounds like maybe you are not? It’s an important conversation. Nice.

    To understand Deuteronomy you must understand that the clothing of men and women were both for most people exactly the same cloth
    and the prohibition against men not wearing clothing worn by a woman was because women were not allowed to enter the temple Because they menstruated they were considered ritually unclean and therefore if a man wore a woman's clothing he would make himself ritually unclean and unable to enter the temple. The closest to modern day transgender referenced in the bible would be eunuchs, and the references in Isaiah 56 would be more useful in how we are to treat transgender.

      Eunuchs were not transgender. The Eunuch (castrated males/ or monks) did not identify as the opposite gender. Regardless, the gospel is for transgenders and cisgenders.

    I get that you’re making an effort here. This conversation is much more honest and forward moving if, instead, the discussion was with a few trans individuals. That would be more meaningful.

    Why do you not address the studies which have been done and replicated regarding neuro anatomy and physiology in terms of gender differences and which begs the question as to whether gender differences and their expression occur in the brain and perhaps are less a function of one's genitalia? You totally ignored this in your ontological arguments.

    People, especially religious people tend to make this issue a whole lot more complicated than it actually is. The simple fact of the matter is that human biology is MUCH more diverse than we realize. Trans people are born with brains which identify as the opposite gender as their natal sex organs because in utero their brains were either masculinized or feminized by certain androgens. So they literally do have the brains with which they identify. This is a scientific fact along with other very diverse genes and chromosomes working together which make up that individual. They are who they are and are simply born that way just as intersex people are born the way they are. I have trans people in my family who knew they were trans from as far back as their memory takes them. Now transitioned, they are much happier to be able to live their authentic lives. I really wish that this type of human variation would stop being so demonized by christians and the far right & that anti trans bigotry & ignorance would end for the sake of trans people and for all of humanity.

    My brother in law identifies as a female and though I disagree with his self identity I still love him. A lot of his issues began with the abusive relationship he was in with his ex girlfriend. Though as a libertarian I support his right to dress like a woman and groom himself like a woman and to take female hormones I don’t believe that society should be forced to agree with him that he is a woman. Trans rights shouldn’t trump women’s rights because actual biological women have a right to not have biological males who identify as females undressing with them in female locker rooms and to not have biological males who identify as females that commit crimes be incarcerated in women’s prisons and for actual biological women to not have to compete in sports with biological males who identify as females but still have male upper body strength unlike actual biological women who have female lower body strength

    I agree we love everyone but not their sin. We are all born in sin. We are born with lust and lies but we must turn away from them and turn towards Jesus.
