    She says her brain thinks differently at 22 than she did at 18. That reminds me that at 14 I felt as mature as I was ever going to get. Then at 16 I realized how immature I was at 14. Then again at 18 how immature I was at 16 and so on.

      Exactly so stop giving kids power over their parents with hormones to alternate their body. Yea my nephew played with barbie's and brat dolls as a kid, we all put it together he was different and he grew up to be a gay man and his brother is in the military. And Guess what he's a proud gay man that this all of this is redundant.

      Welcome to presenting as a woman! (Looks glowing, beautiful and the blouse looks great.) The pressure of being beautiful before all else can be crippling. Maybe the grass looks greener for the opposite sex when the enormity of adulthood starts to dawn on them. Fear of the unknown, yet the inevitable, can make you do “crazy” things to avoid it. If you don’t fit the mold, being “special”can be a shield.

    • @L_Martin
      @L_Martin 2 года назад +5

      @@sum1has2 Any way you look at it, attractive people have it so much easier - either if they transition or don’t and they can “pass” and look beautiful no matter what. If you don’t fit in either category, and/or you’re unattractive, it’s an enormous burden to bear. I feel like looking GOOD doesn’t get talked about enough in these discussions - aka “pretty privilege” (maybe not an ideal term but there you go)

    • @L_Martin
      @L_Martin 2 года назад +3

      @@colasfalon6470 "very often, both trans and gay individuals (especially among females) tend to have been RELATIVELY unattractive/competitive as their biological sex" - I think gender non-conformity is a huge part of this. Not being able to "fit" the gender norms for your sex, and getting rejected by the group you're sexually attracted to as a result - is crushing.
      I don't know if it's a conscious calculation for a lot of these young people transitioning, to improve their "perceived sexual market value" - as in many cases what they are doing is totally counter-productive, in the case of "straight" people transitioning to the opposite sex presentation in particular. E.g., a straight girl like Helena, transitioning to become a boy - will not end well because who is this "trans man" who is attracted to straight men going to end up attracting? You're dooming yourself to a very lonely life indeed.
      The only group I see who would massively benefit are young gay males, transitioning early, and passing as female. These young gay males are attracted to straight men. They aren't attracted even to other gay males. So, transition in their case makes complete sense to me. They tend to be hyper-feminine, hyper-gender non-conforming, someone like Blaire White for example.

    I'd be really interested to see this talk again, but with an afab person with no familial support in transitioning, who researched the medical risks, and still fought tooth and nail to transition to male both physically (hormones and/or surgery) and legally (name change, birth certificate gender change) and lived as a practically cisgender man in the world for several years. Who THEN goes through with the decision to detranstion and be a ciswoman living with the many irreversible both medical & masculinizing effects of Testosterone. Like, think about JUST the social aspect of that person's detransition experience. I have a feeling it would be a very different (and much longer) discussion.
    also I agree with "talk to your child, listen to them and help them instead of trying to convince them they're wrong" that's the most important piece of mental health advice for parents, even outside of gender discussions.

      What if your kid is wrong and wants to do a massive destructive surgery and/or drugs that will cripple their natural growth and development?
      Listening is great but a parent needs to say no alot over the years, and just like parents ban websites, media, clothes and friends from a childs life the same is true with medical procedures.

    • @turntupmongoose
      @turntupmongoose 2 года назад +4

      @@magustrigger9195 Talking to the child and figuring out what's going on can prevent negative outcomes of any kind. Such as suicide, runaways, self-destructive behavior, or rushing to transition when it isn't the right option such as the young woman in the video did. Whatever the child's issue is, that can be figured out by hearing them out, bringing them to therapy if they want it, getting down to the root of the problem. Listening to their needs and helping them get the proper treatment, whatever that turns out to be. If it does turn out they're transgender then the child and parent can do research and talk to a doctor and therapist and figure out as a team what the plan should be.
      Most surgeons won't even give gender reassignment surgeries to people under 16 even with parental consent, you have to wait until 18. And danger is present in any surgery requiring the patient to be put under, whether that's a masectomy or an appendectomy. As far as replacement hormones, cisgender men and women take synthetic testosterone and estrogen for hormonal problems, and that same medication is what is given to transgender men and women who want to take hormones. Endocrinologists are very knowledgeable in hormone therapy and transgender people aren't the only patients who use it. The risks are very well known now, none of this is brand new. All it takes is a google search and hundreds of studies will show up at your fingertips. Most places require at least a year of therapy before giving someone the go-ahead on starting hormones (to make sure the individual actually wants to do it), and doctors who prescribe ANY medication at all SHOULD be making their patients fully aware of the risks anyway. Children who think they want to take hormones some day but are too young can take something called a hormone blocker if their parent allows it, which is low risk and is entirely reversible. Then when they're older they can switch to replacement hormones, should that be the right option for them.
      Parents can also help their gender-questioning children by offering entirely nonmedical support, such as letting them present the way they want to with clothes, hair, and a different name, until the child is old enough to choose to medically transition on their own. That kind of support alone makes a huge difference to a child's confidence and self-worth, and strengthens the trust they have with the parent. It also drastically reduces the risk of self-harm and suicide in transgender youth. Children are human too, with their own desires and ambitions and feelings that shouldn't be ignored. A parent's role is to guide and protect, not to control with an iron grip. There are few ways to destroy a child's sense of self-worth faster than not listening to their emotions, and telling them everything they're feeling is wrong and that you're always right. Their broken autonomy and self-doubt will follow them into adulthood.

An adult is an adult and can do whatever they chose and live with the decision but the youth should not as they are so easily influenced and Misinterpreting things. Idk why you would even allow your child to transition when they haven’t even developed their brain fully let alone know anything about sex, gender, etc.

      You have the same rights as the rest of us. You exist. The point is that “gender dysphoria” is a disorder about which very little is known, and yet a narrative has been allowed to ferment on social media that anyone whose interests or mannerisms or behaviours are at slight variance with their sex must be trans, and that this must be affirmed at every corner, including the language we use and ultimately the amputation of healthy body parts and lifelong artificial hormones. Not only does trans theory enforce a rigid gender binary (girls/women must be feminine) that confuses sex and gender, it also creates a myth: “gender identity”. It dismisses the real sex differences between men and women, and creates a false equivalence between women/femininity and men/masculinity.
      Being an unfeminine woman does not make you less of a woman. Being a feminine man does not make you a woman. Man and woman are biological states of being, not identities.
      GD is an exceedingly rare condition. Many of these kids are just experiencing normal puberty. Puberty is tough. I cried for like 3 days when I had my first period. I thought if this is what it means to be a woman, I don’t want to be a woman. But you mature and learn to be at peace with your body. Your brain doesn’t fully develop until your mid 20s, and there is no way that a child or teenager can give informed consent to these procedures.
      Sorry for the unfocused comment but I find this issue very distressing. Kids are having their lives ruined by ideologues and unethical doctors and the implications affect us all.

And as Scott Newgent says, its all about dollar signs. Someone's making loads on money on these kids and adults who are transitioning. You have to pay for all these hormones, procedures, and meds, right? I mean being gay is one thing, but transitioning is a totally separate thing. As Scott Newgent explained, you can be gay and it's possible that no one will make money off your gayness. Most intersex people have gender, no matter where it is on the spectrum.
    A big part of growing up is gender. Gender is fluid, and people can think they're trans and then find out they're actually just insecure. Or they could think they're trans and it's true forever!
