- In what ways is gender ideology cult-like? What are its core foundational myths, and how can concerned citizens challenge them?
Today’s guest, Justine Deterling, founded the LGB watchdog organization Gender Health Query to create resources for parents and educators to address these concerns. In this episode, we discuss the cult-like dynamics of gender activism influencing young people's beliefs and behaviors, and debunk common myths that have insidiously crept into public education and other institutions.
We also touch on the role of mental health professionals in addressing the unique needs of the LGB community amidst the growing emphasis on TQ+ issues. In its quest to “affirm” the rainbow, has the counseling profession inadvertently harmed LGB people?
Justine Deterling is an LGB human rights activist with a focus on pediatric transition for gender dysphoria and its effects on youth of all orientations. She founded the medical and queer theory watchdog organization Gender Health Query in 2019, which provides extensive information on these subjects and whose members protest ideological “LGBTQ+” activists corrupting media, the health professions, and education. Gender Health Query members hope people will join them in sending the message opposing extremist gender activism is not “bigotry” but a sane response to overreach. They would like people to join them in opposing indoctrinating school children and teens into radicalization and unscientific worldviews around sex and gender. GHQ is part of a larger long-term goal to create an evidence-based, supportive organization focusing on the long-term well-being of LGB people and the wider society. Justine happily lives with her partner of 26 years.

Glad more exposure and public conversation is happening on this topic. I can’t believe that people who have opinions- not facts - about gender believe they have a moral superiority over people who point out a lack of evidence that supports these opinions that TRAs say everyone is supposed to accept as fact. I am stunned by the number of people blindly accepting emotional manipulation and doublespeak.

I am personally living this nightmare as all 3 of my children are captured by woke propaganda and my son is currently transitioning, and our family is in crisis.
I keep hoping to find specific Canadian based resources but I have realized why that is not available- because we now have laws in place in Canada that criminalize parents if they question anything queer/ trans as hate speech and conversion therapy.

Recently, I started to wonder why I hadn't seen posts from certain old friends of mine. I discovered that they had unfriended me. The only thing that I can possibly imagine to have caused it are my more conservative and GC views. In the past we would have been able to discuss this. That no longer happens "I don't like your opinions, I no longer like you" is the order of the day.
Happened the same thing to my friend anna with her cousin and his wife . She was posting gender critical stuff and then she found out only later that these relatives of hers have transitioned their daughter . Their daughter is only 16 and on testosterone already , her name was Rosita now she's "Ross" , so now Anna knows why these relatives of hers unfriended her . Crazy people really . I don't know how could anyone do that to their child .

Great interview! I’m impressed by the number of people and orgs (therapists, lgbtq groups, etc) that Justine has reached out to (or attempted to).
I’m always impressed by your ability to notice and then highlight the salient points your interviewees make, Stephanie. And Justine was great. She gave a very thorough analysis of the situation and I imagine her materials would be excellent.
Refreshingly straight talk
Yeah, I really relate to this. Until recently I could easily ID as "left" on many/most issues, and now I'm "far right" because I dissent from what I perceive to be woke ideological capture, particularly in the areas of critical theory (neo-racism labeled as "anti-racism" etc.) and horrific medical abuses framed as human rights. I agree with Peter Boghossian et. al about the weaponization of language, which has the effect of coercing people into conforming uncritically to beliefs that they believe good people believe, and demanding that others do the same. Criticism or dissent, of course, cannot be tolerated, and the MSM has gone off the rails beyond even that which my cynical brain would have predicted... Good discussion, thanks.

Anyone can earn credentials, degrees, certificates, etc... but not everyone has the capacity for processing common sense or critical thinking. "Covering up desistance ? ! " My God. 🐿

"Does anything I've been told about the far right exist?"
As an independent who has traveled in right wing circles since about 2008, the gross elements of the far right exist, but they're small and have almost no influence within the movement. My instinct has always been to criticize both sides, but they are different in some important respects, and this to me is the main one: the crazies on the Right are fairly well contained, whereas they seem to be running the asylum on the Left. I fully expected the crazies on the right to gain influence as the crazies on the left ramped up the conflict - and they have a little bit, but overall, I've been pleasantly surprised by how firmly the reasonable people on the right have held the line.
In fact, the right has reformed for the better in many ways since Trump routed the previous right wing establishment. They are increasingly becoming the new anti-war party; Trump & Tucker Carlson both opposed US intervention in Ukraine, Israel, Iraq, Syria, North Korea, Taiwan and Libya, while their establishment Democrat contemporaries were ravenous for all of these (substituting Iraq for Afghanistan). The right is becoming more suspicious of the police, and the surveillance state, and more supportive of whistleblowers like Julian Assange. The right is also becoming more suspicious of giant (especially global) corporations, like the medical-industrial complex, the military-industrial complex, and the giant investment firms like Blackrock.
Right and left are useless frames of reference. Just judge people by their behavior and how they interact with you. I have friends in the left, right, atheist and catholic. Don’t care what they are called 😊
