Phantom Balsa F5K eDLG Kit 1.5 Meter Electric RC Glider Build Log
This is the build instructions (no voiceover) for our Phantom Almost-Ready-to-Fly (ARF) 1.5-meter RC electric glider. The Phantom is not just great for fun flying in small flying fields but as an entry into the F5K or eDLG competition classes and events.
The Phantom is a balsa built-up glider with a carbon boom, carbon spar and other reinforcements and is covered with a light plastic film. This is a 6-servo glider, which means it has Rudder, Elevator, Flap, and Aileron channels for control. The V-tails are controlled by a pull-string system with a spring in the control surface.
As the Phantom ARF comes mostly assembled, it usually takes 2-3 hours to put together at home.

Unfortunately not, one of the recent updates broke our templates and we just don’t have the manpower to go through all the templates to update right now. However, I believe Mike Shellim has good templates that a lot of DLG pilots are using/enjoying.

Welcome to the DLG world! We see the most success for new pilots entering with a one meter DLG like the receiver-ready Deviant. Receiver-ready allows you to see how we would do all the installation details for reference on future builds, and the 1m size is easier to learn the launch mechanics on and less likely to be damaged during mishaps.

Why are these expensive KST servos? 50 bucks for one servo is madness.
You absolutely need precise servos for DLGs due to their high performance aerodynamics. Everything must be not only precise, but repeatable. KSTs are great value servos for the performance offered.

If you don't have flaps, you should use the old school method of full up elevator and full rudder. It will flat spin down at a fairly safe pace.

Isn't this too heavy for DLG? I want to buy new transmitter and I look for tandem 18s or twin 14s. Not surw what to pick
I do prefer the lighter radios for DLG. You can’t go wrong with the 18s or 14s, although i prefer the screen on the top, so I am using the 18s.

Then you could use less expensive building materials like GFK instead of CFK. Then the plane must get other wings instead of more wight. It will not get in my mind
That will lead to a plane with weights spread across the wingspan, reducing launch height, agility, and thermal sensitivity.

No, the AR410 with the built-in antennas is a solid receiver.

Stupid question maybe: I am used to plugging the battery into the ESC and the ESC into the receiver. Obviously, a glider does not need an ESC. I understand that I need a 1S Lipo to power the receiver and the servos. However, where/how on the receiver do I plug the battery? Do the 1S batteries come with a plug for the three pins in the receiver?
Can anyone suggest a budget DLG model?

@@trick_frick У передатчика, например слева, есть подпружиненная кнопка или тумблер, отвечающая за подъём стабилки. Перед броском он зажимается-стабилка поднята. Нужно подгадать момент отжима этой кнопки, чтоб планер шел вертикально или градусов так под 80 против ветра. У Д.Ломовцева есть об этом на видео, долго искать
Beautiful planes! having built 2 F3-RES planes I can attest to the fact that the builds can take a long time and an ARF plane is a very clever idea if you can make it work as a business case. I hope sales are going well!
Great, though those servos just shoot up the price of this; in my opinion nothing wrong with some emac servos in a glider like this.

What FUTABA Rx are you using for 1S Lipo? R3004SB needs 4.8～7.4V in spec sheet. I don't know slim FUTABA Rx for 1S.
I use several Futaba receivers that work fine on 1S. It’s the servos that need a certain voltage to operate optimally.
really enjoy these videos, I have learned a lot of useful information. can't really say Id buy any armsoor products, in my opinion they have priced themselves out of a lot of business, I have seen their products up close and they are very high quality , as a composite specialist I know what that takes to produce that kind of quality . I also know what the basic products cost and I can say with absolute certainty its not as high as you might think
I been looking at getting into DLG's and im a current RC pilot and would like to buy a decent quality glider, I been dumbfounded at the prices..... ArmSoar is ridiculously priced
