Always enjoy your videos. 👌 Been looking at the X20 for the last couple of weeks. I’m one step closer now. You also answered my question about the tandem receivers. Frsky mention them on their website, but could find no more mention of them anywhere.
Thank you, glad to hear the videos are enjoyed! It keeps us going :) Yeah sometimes info on FrSky products are not very complete and hard to find. If you end up getting a X20, I think you'll have a good time with it too.
Yes, exactly as you said - I have a G-RX6 inside with the built-in vario. It's not available anymore, so if you or anyone else is looking, the current version is the GR6.
@@ArmSoar Very nice. I like the flight conditions on Futaba radios a lot. Futaba link is always solid, especially if using the FASST protocol. What I don't understand about Futaba is they lack switch assigned voice feature, which is something virtually all competitors have.
What do you like more about the Flight Conditions (Futaba) over Flight Modes (Spektrum, FrSky, etc)? I haven't spent a lot of time with the 16iz yet, have only flew it a half dozen times, so there's probably some deeper stuff I'm not aware of yet. My main gripes with it - and why I haven't been using it - is 1. lack of radio link quality info. Okay, there is a small icon on the top, but there are no numbers, alarms, logs, etc... nothing actionable. Super important for me when flying in the city due to the interference we get... and 2. I haven't seen a way for it to go into Zoom mode for the climb and leave Zoom mode through a logical switch or timer. Must be manually flicking it out of Zoom with a 3-pos momentary switch. I've had several of those switches fail in the past when flying JR and Graupner, so I'm not fond of those switches. But, weight and ergonomics is very, very good. Nice screen, gimbals are decent, system speed is very crisp and 2021, and (for the most part) the system is very flexible. I can see why so many people love the Futaba system.
@@ArmSoar I think Futaba conditions (different flight modes) is one of the first to come out in the industry almost two decades ago that allows you to have a completely different model setup with their trim settings at the flick of a switch. The only other radio at the time that allows this was the Multiplex Evo. This concept was revolutionary at the time, and many other brands soon followed suite. I personally just got used to the Futaba Conditions programming over the years so I advocate it. I'm sure the Flight Modes from other brands these days can do exactly the same thing as Futaba Conditions. Admittingly, Futaba programming was not ideal for DLG setup, exactly due to the reason as what you have described -- there is no automatic way to go in/out of zoom mode. Futaba also lacks voice assigned switch feature, except for the top of the line 18MZ and 32MZ. I use my Futaba 18SZ for large scale models and the radio link reliability has been bulletproof over the years. I'm in the Greater Phoenix area and the entire valley is a highly developed suburban environment with square miles of residential houses surrounded by industry and communication towers. I've seen people having brownouts on Spektrum, Jeti, FrSky, and JR, but Futaba link has always been solid -- not a single hiccup for over a decade of use. I'm not sure why Futaba doesn't show link quality though. Having said all that, I'm happy to say that I've ordered a Tandem X20S from the ArmSoar USA warehouse and will be using it exclusively for my F3K and F5K ships. I'll be using it for the Blue Skies over Arizona F3K contest in November and have a lot to look forward to. Many thanks for your DLG template, it will save me days of tinkering and trying to figure out a new programming system.
I'm really liking the X20 and EthOS so far. Do you guys have any questions about the radio that you'd like me to cover in a future video?
Always enjoy your videos. 👌

What receiver is inside the Deviant? Do you have a separate vario or are you using one of those FrSky receivers with built-in varios (like G-RX6)?
Yes, exactly as you said - I have a G-RX6 inside with the built-in vario. It's not available anymore, so if you or anyone else is looking, the current version is the GR6.
Is the stick on your radio just for visualizing the wind direction or did you add an antenna?
Wind indicator :) Super useful for flying gliders.
👍👍
Hi Thomas, have you tried any Futaba radios yet?
Yes, I have a Futaba 16iZ as well.
