The One Where We Say Goodbye
Not much to say here. We reminisce about the past four and a half years of Monsters & Multiclass and talk about what the shows meant to the three of us.
We know this is the right call for us, but it is hard to say goodbye. This episode gave us a lot of closure, and for our fans that, feel they need that I hope this does for you as well.

Phantom Rogue Oath of Conquest Paladin: This paladin created their oath so that even in undeath, they will not yeald. Use the Undead lineage for flavor purposes. Oath of Redemption Assassin/ Thief rogue: This paladin had a troubled past, was a scoundrel, or even just had to make ends meet due to an unfortunate living situation. Now they are a well adjusted adult who is trying to better themselves daily. Hence, they take up their Oath. Oath Of the Ancients Paladin Scout rogue: A forest dweller who lived in seclusion with his people and in one with nature, who took up their oath to protect the things they love the most. Oath of Glory Paladin Swashbuckler rogue. A rogue who wants my name to be the most renowned among the world as they journey through it. Hence, they constrict themselves to an oath to spread their influence, whether that is a good or bad thing. Bonus points if you go the "Dread Pirate Roberts" route of being an 'alleged' big scary pirate. Arcane Trickster Oathbreaker: This paladin realized the cruelty in the world around them and understood sometimes, to get stuff done, you got to get your hands dirty. So they abandoned their oath and sought a more subdrifuge focused direction.

Alternate warlock Subclass Pact of the Celestial. Giving you that additional healing as a bonus action could make you really annoying to kill. Additionally, if you really want to lean into it, Zealot barbarian gets to add the 1d6+ half barbarian level in damage (radiant or necrotic) to one attack per turn. This allows for Pact of the Blade to scale nicely, even without the invocations like Lifedrinker.

Going to be running baphomet in the current campaign I'm doing and maze is a tricky one but it's too interesting to pass up. My two ideas are either to establish a 30-Ft square around the character with a tile in mind that they have to guess to land on or find a simple but not too simple paper and pencil maze that they have 6 seconds per turn to work through.

If we were to ignore the stat requirements or just assume you somehow managed to meet the requirements. It would be great if there was a bow equivalent of a Hoopak (Dragonlance: Shadow of the Dragon Queen Hoopak: * A hoopak is a sturdy stick with a sling at one end and a pointed tip at the other. 1 gp, 1d6 piercing (melee) or 1d4 bludgeoning (ranged), 2 lb. Ammunition (range 40/160), finesse, special, two-handed and the special trait reads as follow: Hoopak. When you make a melee attack with this weapon, you ignore its ammunition property. You can use the hoopak as a martial ranged weapon. If you do, it uses the ammunition property, uses sling bullets, and deals 1d4 bludgeoning damage on a hit.) and after lots of looking around on the internet, there is historical president for this. These bows existed in varies iterations. As an umbrella term I'll use spearbow, in Japan there was the Hazuyari sometimes people also referred to it as a bow bajonet (since it's an attachment that you put on top of your bow) and in America there were the Sioux most elite who sometimes came equiped with something called a Ghost Lance Bow (has several variations), so they have definitely existed in real life. For D&D I'd like it if they like the Hoopak would be counted as a polearm and for melee attacks to have the reach property. Give them a d8 for range and a d10 for melee, blending the (D&D) pike and longbow into 1 weapon. This would make it easier to combine both the ranged and melee fighting style. If we put on a very hippy-rangery outfit on top of our armor you could decieve them into thinking that it's a good idea to rush the ranger ''because archers are bad in melee'', just wait for their reaction when they run headlong into their first smite. Now you have them exactly where you want them as a paladin.

A little before around 21:15 you talk about how adding an aditional stat from swashbuckler isn't a good idea. I take it that now in hindsight with fae wanderer it becomes a little bit of a better idea. Also I think that the swarmkeeper 11 feature to knock them prone is great for rogues.

  • @jugglejunk

Theme/flavorwise I love this combination. We don't have an artifice warlock subclass, but cursed items have to come from somewhere, somebody has to make them and they would need a reason to be wanting to distribute them. Well a patron of artifice could be that (I'll just steal the flavor text of undead warlock for some possible patrons) source making cursed items/weapons, which devour and feed the soul of those attuned to it, if it's an item or the soul of the slain in the case of a weapon, to the patron. So distributing those items are what makes the patron stronger, which is rewarding the warlock with more spells. Wouldn't that be a cool patron?

While hexblade is very good, depending on the build a undead warlock with greater invisibility and 7 lvls of conquest paladin will be very scary too and bonus action hide from goblin. I think charisma added to the attack is better than just using charisma. Take a look at devotion paladins channel divinity. Also there's mark of shadow elf that gets greater invisibility added to their spell list.

Also, abjurer might stack well with EK or other fighter builds because it provides damage reduction!

Loved your deep dive! Genie warlock might warrant a second glance. At level six you get non-concentration, non-spellcasting flight with hover. Barbarians are fantastic until enemies can get around them to attack your allies. This really shows up that particular weakness and accentuates what barbarians do even better by letting you reach almost anywhere in the battlefield, even flying enemies. Being able to fly and grapple or attack or zoom over to your rogue who is on top of a wall getting swarmed by enemies could be the one thing that any other barbarian wishes they could have. Sanctuary can force enemies to attack the barbarian instead of your caster or healer. Barbarians are excellent until enemies can attack other party members, then the barbarians defenses don’t really matter so much because the casters are already being targeted. A barbarian who can also cast thanks very very interesting because they can actually tank elegantly even if your own allies are exposed. 👍 and that sanctuary will stay up on them if they’re just keeping up a wall spell or doing healing and arguably summoning spells. Having sanctuary on your wizard who is holding up a wall of stone or some thing is pretty nasty while at the same time you’re slinging an axe in to someone’s face.

Level 15 Artificer Armorer with Guardian setup, then 5 levels of Glamour Bard, for battle control. You can strategically move the party wherever you want, and give 8 temp hp to everyone. You get all the bonus from Artificer with the most advanced guardian armor, that can hit mobs 30 feet away by pulling them to you. Perfect for zerging. :) You can also inverse it and take 15 levels of bard and pick up tenser transformation as a magical secret. War Caster might be important then.

First of all, that was a really entertaining watch. I found this while looking for ideas others had with this multiclass. Here's my take on it :) I like rogues mostly because of their insane quality of life in and out of combat. Cunning action, uncanny dodge, evasion, reliable talent! But I wanted to explore some multiclasses options. I came up with 2 Paladin/x Arcane Trickster. I personally think it is better than 5 or 6 paladin. Oath, Extra attack and aura is crazy good, but you delay reliable talent so much and that feature is actually insane. You basically can't roll below 20 in the rolls you actually care about from that point on. That will be at level 13 for this multiclass and since most campaign end around level 15, you'll actually get to use (abuse) it :) Other than that, I think going full paladin makes it useless to go rogue since their sneak attack won't scale much and you'll miss the actual good rogue features. Unless you take an archetype with a cool interaction, the only cool thing it gives you is cunning action. I don't think it is worth it to lose paladin levels for this and at that point I think other full paladin or another multiclass would make more sense. With that said, let's get into it! Going only 2 level of paladin only takes away 1d6 of sneak, your level 19 ASI which you don't need that much since you get a ton as rogue and Stroke of luck at 20. I strongly believe that 2 levels of paladin adds mountains of value when compared to what you lose from rogue when taking those 2 levels. Here's why. Paladin first level gives you +1 AC (other fighting style are not great imo) and healing which you normally don't have on rogue. But the second level gives you smite which will scale until level 20! You have to go Arcane Trickster for this. Your spellslots can be used to smite and at level 18, you don't lose any spell slot when compared to level 20 rogue. Going deeper in paladin doesn't make your smite any better so every paladin level over 2 will make you lose damage on your sneak attack and won't scale your smite more. And since the smite caps at 5d8, you hit the cap with the arcane trickster too. Also, since you don't have extra attack, you can go Booming blade with Arcane Trickster to boost your damage more. You lose accuracy since you won't have a 2nd chance to hit with extra attack. But that's the life of a rogue. You'll need to rely more on having advantage. That multiclass can also be played from level 1. Paladin is super strong early game. Then you'll have a small loss of damage when dipping in rogue, but it will quickly catch up since your smite will scale when you reach level 3+ rogue. It becomes as if you were scaling 2 sneak attacks at each level. The other big benefit of being rogue for longer is that you'll get more ASI and since you need 13 str and 13 cha for paladin, you kinda need those. You could even go with any elf race and get elven accuracy since you rely on advantage and a single attack. This will help you alot. You can give yourself advantage with steady aim or with you mage hand later on. Usualy elven accuracy is hard to fit on a multiclass that depends on alot of ability scores, but this one fits. The multiple ASI come in late though so you won't cap your dex for a while unless your campaign starts at a higher level. Tabaxi can be really good as a race as mentioned in the video. Elf can also be great if going elven accuracy. Human variant gives you less ability score with a multiclass already spread thin so unless you really want a feat at level 1, I wouldn't go with it. Bugbear can't work since booming blade doesn't benefit from the extended reach :( So that's pretty much it. At level 9 your booming blade/sneak/smite/rapier can deal 1d8 + 5d6 + 3d8 + 1d8 + 3 with triple advantage which give you 90% accuracy on an enemy with an AC of 17. That's pretty good with your dex modifier at 3. It will be capped by level 12 with the extra ASI from rogue and you'll have 90% accuracy on an AC of 19. And you can easily give yourself advantage with your familiar, steady aim or your mage hand at higher level. Overall, I think this multi class is really worth it if doing Arcane trickster and it is way more powerful than going 20 levels of rogue.
