    Moonbeam not being here is especially weird in light of the fact that it was in the Full Moon section for the UA.

      I think they abandoned it to stick to the schools of magic associated with the phase.

    You are correct about advantage granting +5 to passive perception. Also, regarding the AoE blind, Color Spray is a 1st level spell ON the Lunar Sorcery spell list, Fog Cloud is 1st level, Darkness and Pyrotechnics are 2nd level spells, Wall of Light is a 5th level spell, and you've got plenty of wall spells (Wall of Sand, Fire, Stone) that block line of sight, all of which are at or below HALF the level you get Lunar Phenomenon.
    Also, I don't know if you considered the range and area of effect of all of those spells I mentioned versus those of the Full Moon Lunar Phenomenon. Most of those have a range of 60 feet or greater at which the area of effect can be placed. Lunar Phenomenon is a thirty foot radius FROM YOU, meaning you would have to be within one move action of every single enemy creature in order to have a chance to blind them.
    With that in mind, I truly believe that, combined with the 3d8 healing, that is purely a defensive ability meant to allow you to escape from harm or turn the tide of battle. RAW opportunity attacks can only be made at a creature you can see, so you can absolutely rules lawyer a way to turn this into a buffed version of the Glamour Bard's Mantle of Inspiration (uses a bonus action, grants 14 temp HP at 15th level (compared to the average of 3d8, which is 13.5), allows your party to move up to their speed without provoking opportunity attacks using their reaction, and has a range of 60 feet).

    The subclass looks fine, I dont really feel like Ray of sickness doing poison damage its very "moon" like, I think the thematic they went for the Lunar spells is.. a bit vague 😅As I read it, the Lunar spells do not count against your spells known, so you cant change them when you level up? I think I would enjoy it more if the spells can be change, since, again... the thematic is so vague. Nice video! Cant wait for the Mages Unearthed Arcana!

    Me and my partner both really like that it's not just a generic moon theme and does involve different phases that you pick from; it would make a great present for them for the holidays

    Wow! I made the same mistake as Jared at first look. I thought they only had the spell learned for the phase they were in, and that makes a pretty big difference. Also, I've seen this mentioned already, but the Clockwork & Aberrant Mind's ability to exchange their aditional spells with the same school of magic is better than their feature. In application however I like the direction of not letting the sorcerer's switch out the extra spells known. From my understanding the Character options in this book were supposed to be "more over-tuned" to compensate for a difficult campaign setting, so I see why people would react to 15 additional spell list.

    I remember reading the UA and thinking "wow this is insane" and then reading it when it came out and said "actually wait, it's a little insane but fine overall". It has a lot of choices and options.
    Edit: Contention on the AoE Blinding: the 6th level Sunbeam spell deals 6d8 radiant damage and blinds until the end of your next turn. It's a line so not as good of an AoE, but you can create the line again each turn for a minute. You're also shedding sunlight if it matters.

    I think this subclass is good, by design it sounds intended to not run out of resources or work well with very few. But I don’t think it comes close to the power of the two subclasses clockwork and aberrant(I have level 12 players playing both an aberrant mind and clockwork soul sorcerer in my game). The fact that their free spells can be changed is the strongest feature and looking at the static spells on Lunar, they are largely, bad, particularly crescent and some on new moon. I don’t know if I could ever justify spending a resource on color spray or ray of sickness. At level 5+ I would certainly prefer a cantrip.
    All things considered I think I want to attempt to make a character that can make use of blade ward with quickened metamagic in full moon form. Though being able to twin haste or heighten slow for cheaper in cresent moon form would be pretty lit as the kids say.
    And don’t sleep on protection from evil and good(Or do I’m not in charge of you). Disadvantage on incoming attacks as well as condition immunity to charm, fear and possession from aberrations, celestials, elementals, fey, fiends, and undead is a ton for a 1st level spell. Basically if you aren’t fighting humanoids, it’s gonna be useful. Not to mention a 10 minute duration? If you’ve done a low-level dungeon crawl it could be a game changer.
    But for real though good video guys. Keep it up :)

    In my campaigns I run lunar sorcerers as not being able to change the moon phases as I find it makes it so they dont have a limitational mechanic. I like the idea that depending on the phase of moon they have access to certain spells. But if you allow them to change the phase then how do you justify numerous lunar sorcerers all changing a moons phase.

    • @MonstersMulticlass
      @MonstersMulticlass  Год назад +1

      Yeah Im not sure it has much in world justification

    • @donnajanveau3749
      @donnajanveau3749 Год назад

      So what I do to help the player is if they go with an arcane focus i help tie it to the phases of the moon and since in the world of Kryn they have days, weeks, etc you can make a lunar phases thing where like pick one day and say the new moon falls on and when full moon. So if it takes 15 days to go from new to full. In between is the half-moon spells. This way it also gives the player more environmental immersion in the setting. As they will want to be aware of the moons cycle.
      For example if they choose an amulet or talisman arcane focus perhaps its like those things that when you change angles they show a different picture and depending on the moon phase it shows their moons current phase state. So their talisman would be circular and on new moon it would be all black, youd see the growing or shrinking crescent as the phases progress to full moon where the talisman/amulet would then be full.

    This sorcerer isn't as strong as clockwork though. Clockworks ability to substitute the free spells for other spells is more powerful.

      @verbatim8892 Год назад +1

      RAW you can do that with this subclass too if your DM is using Tasha's Spell Versatility since the book explicitly says "Each of these spells counts as a sorcerer spell for you".
      I would probably let a player do this just because Sorcerers kind of got the short end of the stick relative to other casters in 5e but it definitely does not seem intended and I wouldn't hold it against a DM who said no.

      @@verbatim8892 right, particularly I meant the built-in feature of clockwork magic.
      "Whenever you gain a sorcerer level, you can replace one spell you gained from this feature with another spell of the same level. The new spell must be an abjuration or a transmutation spell from the sorcerer, warlock, or wizard spell list."
      Since this is directly codified vs needing the optional rule from Tasha's it's better imo.

    What makes aberant and clockwork good is the fact u can retrain those spells, so none are sucky cause u can just turn them into better spells like polymorph, and moons spell list is meh
