Is there no binding with saber? Sorry if its a silly question.
No, not really in the same way as with earlier systems!
I cannot put into civil words how much I FUCKING hate your mustache
Good points covered well! Excellent video! I need lots of techniques against different weapons so I subscribed!
I feel like a man reviewing sabers should look much like this. The mustache screams Hussar, well groomed and trimmed for open faced helmets and caps, and with the regal authority that such status in a cavalry unit should bring. 10/10
Where would I buy the first saber with the knuckle guard perhaps on the right side of the hilt?
This one is from a maker called Szabla Polska. I recommend having a look at Silkfencing these days.
Owning a 1796 sabre, I wonder why the sabres got more narrow and pointy ?
You look rajput asf do you have indian ancestry?
Beautiful blades, sir! A question, if i may: infantry sabers are lighter for bearer is on foot and that's okay, but straight sword type blade stands for...?
What gloves do you guys use on your sword hand? Or the basket hilt is sufficient and you just use thin gloves?
These days I use the Thokk WeaponMaster Gauntlets for sabre. They are not perfect but I like them. I can't use them inside a basket hilt, so here I was just wearing thin gloves, which leaves the wrist unprotected.
You can tell that they went from slashing to piercing as time goes on, probably because the armor was better over time too.
I don't do hema. But I will still buy one of these. Simply because I really like sabers. And maybe, just maybe, this will strike enough of a spark to get me into the hobby.
Nothing wrong with that - you can like sabres just for what they are!
Polish Sabre called " Black Hussar Sabre" is the finest most deadly and Perfect blade ever known and made , masterpiece of Blacksmith Art.
@@adaskoadam111 you're Polish, aren't you? 😂

i've tried today to sharp my napoleon cavalry sword , i spent 7hours to sharp it and it's not even razor sharp , it can cut some stuff but it struggle to cut paper so any advice can be appreciate 🙂 i've tried wetstone at 400 and 1000 grid mostly , tried 3000 and 8000 but i don't know why but the 8000 was somehow unsharpening my sword.
Does anyone know the name of the book behind the sword at 0:18?
It's Domenico Angelo's "The School of Fencing". Highly recommended.

Ah typical saber i found on the market in KCD
Mine has arrived! I have just fixed the basket inside to my standings. Tomorrow I will try it at Steelbound The Hague.;-)
That's great, have fun!
4:47 "Your technique is bad." And then you immediately make a perfect cut. Ha ha, wonderful.
The third one is not a saber, it's a broadsword, to be honest!
It's the British 1845 pattern infantry officers sword. This model is usually slightly curved but this example has got a straight blade. You could call it a backsword.
@@historyandsabre Maybe you call it a saber, but according to the classification throughout the world it is a broadsword, or in Hungarian pallos, or in Turkish pala.
My first language isn't even English but a backsword is a single-edged broadsword. Here you go: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backsword?wprov=sfla1
@@historyandsabre But still this is not a saber.

I have a sword from my grandfather, he died during ww2 in Austria, his wife received it after he died. I looked online and on videos if I see the same one but I haven't found one that looks like his sword
He was from Vienna
You could drop me some pictures on Instagram (@historyandsabre) and I'll look at it, if you like.
I am considering buying one of these, Do you think thokk weaponmaster gauntlets would fit into the sigi pro gaurd? Ive never used the red dragons so im not sure of the size comparison
I can try it out when I my club mate brings his SIGI to class!
Looks cool :) I love it!
Piękna szabelka.
In Poland you can't sell or buy sharp blades (except kitchen knives, of course;) ) so they did what they could for you, I think.
Ah, that explains a lot. Thank you!
FYI Balassa is a Hungarian name, s would be an sch in German so the Germanized form would be Balaschscha.
Me da risa que los saque apurado como si estuviera a punto de pelear 😂
I have swung both sabers and long- and arming swords, and I must say, the pommel makes the swords a lot more comfortable to use, by shifting the point of balance closer to you. The saber put a lot more strain on my wrist
They controlled balance and mass distribution via profile and distal taper on sabres. DIfferent sabres feel completely different!
Lol i just scrolled from a guy screaming "what the fk is a kilometer" while firing a ak47 to this guy calmly explaining how to hold a sword youtube shorts is great
I saw a picture one of a guy fighting with a sword maybe a sabre as it was around that time and a knife. Was this common amongst citizens? I think the setting was on a ship, so maybe not a sabre.
Sabres were used in a lot of military contexts from ca. the 17th to the early 20th century. Shorter sabres were useful for confined spaces such as ships and therefore often adopted by navies. The European type sabres were mainly used by themselves but there are instances where you'd grab a secondary weapon. It was more common with rapiers to have parrying dagger in the off-hand.
The first 2 looked the same.
They are ultimately similar designs but not really.
@historyandsabre This is why I have started watching your channel. So I can learn more about the difference. Was there different Sabres for different purposes?
Great, welcome! Yes, there were different sabres for infantry and cavalry, which varied a lot in size, length, balance, mass and design!

Thanks mate! 🙏
The first one appeared to have the nail on the inside. Is that supposed to be like that, or was it just the way you were holding it?
It's a thumb ring!
Nicely done! Curious how long you'd say it takes to get to the level of sparring something like this?
Thanks! Depends on how much time you can spend on training. For sabre, I'd say it's possible in a year or two with 1-2 nights per week.
LG
I have an M1869 Officers sword that's not a dress version. It was also made by Weyesberg & Stamm and the blade looks to be factory sharpened. It is in 100% origional condition with a sword knot that is perfect. This is one of my favorite swords.
What in the GD Hell is a CM?
What do you mean?
what gloves were you guys using??
Back then I was just using the old Red Dragons. I've since retired them and switched to a pair of Thokk weaponmaster gauntlets for sabre.
It would be interesting to see sabres across the centuries but that are used for same purpose eg cavalry or infantry
Good idea but I don't have such a large collection!
SABEEEERS
hello what polish sabre do you reccomend?
Check out Silk Fencing from Poland!
Drink a sip of water !
I like the last one most
Been catching up on your vids, good stuff. Question, how heavy is that bayonet trainer? It looks light which is a massive advantage. I liked when you started making more traversal steps in the latter half of the session, so key to defeating this long pokey boy.
The beyonet trainer weighs about 2 kg, whichs less than half of an original Brown bess. It's still the best one we've got for HEMA overall in my view considering safety vs realism.
Any explanation involving performance? 🥺
What do you mean?
@@historyandsabreIf they are only different or if each one is better at something 🙏🏻
what gloves do you lads use ?
I use the Thokk gloves and Steve (left) has some lighter kevlar gloves.
really nice sparring but can we take a minute to appreciate max's hair, like god damn it's so... majestic and beautiful? my guy really put a lot of effort on the hair nice job!
He sure did! 🫶 But it's gone now.
@@historyandsabre NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Hello!!! I'm looking for my first sabre, something that I can use to practice the Spanish styles (Frias-Merelo). My main doubt is between the VB light and the new S6 model from Kruger as I want a tool with a good quality-price ratio. As for Regenyei I think that the light model may be too light and the tournament model too heavy...in my school it is not a weapon that we work a lot so I would not use it intensively, only in occasional classes and events. Based on this information I hope you can help me. Thanks in advance!!!
I don't know a lot about Spanish sabre to be honest but I think you already narrowed it down quite well. The A6 and the VB light are both good options. If you're on a tight budget, I'd choose based on price and availabiliy between the two.
I will have to suggest this for melee scenarios for SCA Rapier! Looks like a lot of fun!
