  • Today I'm taking look at the Blackfencer synthetic 1796 Light Cavalry training sabre. It's a cool trainer for sparring and a good tool to have in your arsenal for British Military Swordsmanship.

    I don't do hema. But I will still buy one of these. Simply because I really like sabers. And maybe, just maybe, this will strike enough of a spark to get me into the hobby.

      Nothing wrong with that - you can like sabres just for what they are!

    Great video! i myself do Berlin school sabre, which as a service weapon has the Prussian m1811, which is very reminiscent of the Brtish 1796 LC, so I might just get this :)
    On a side note, have you ever thought about branching out to other sabre sources besides Roworth (maybe even some Austrian ones)?

    • @historyandsabre
      @historyandsabre  2 года назад +1

      Yeah, this sabre can totally represent a Blücher! :)
      To answer your second question: when our club started offering sabre classes, the first source that was taught was Barbasetti, we then switched to Hutton and when I started teaching more I decided to focus on Roworth.
      Personally, I dabble in other sources all the time but Roworth is the one I focus most on at the club together with Mathewson and Angelo.

    Schön wieder Videos von dir zu sehen.
    Ich tu mich echt schwer mit den synthetic waister. Besonders im langschwertfechten waren die derart weit entfernt von Trainings Schwertern aus Stahl, das das gesamte Training sich dem angepasst hatte. Keine Bindung, kein fühlen etc. Nur noch schlechte häue. Ähnliches stelle ich beim Säbelfechten fest. Wo ei ich sagen muss das mir kein sparring freundlicher 1796 Stahlsäbel bekannt ist XD also ist venyl vlt. keine schlechte Option.

    • @historyandsabre

      Servus und vielem Dank fürs Kommentieren! :)
      Ich stimmt dir zu, wenn du im Langen Schwert viel Partnerübungen machst und in der Bindung arbeitest, dann ist Stahl viel besser. Beim Säbelfechten hab ich aber nie so einen großen Unterschied festgestellt. Die Teile von Blackfencer, besonders sie "1796 infantry" sind so gut, dass ich mich nicht mal ärgern würde, wenn ich den Stahlsäbel mal zuhause vergesse.
      Alles in allem is Säbelfechten halt schon anders als Langes Schwert.
      LG

      @@historyandsabre definitiv. :) das war nur mein Grund warum ich nie warm mit den synthetischen substituden wurde. Es gibt einige venyl shashkas als günstige trainingsalternativen auf die ich geschielt habe. Könnte aber noch nicht über meinen Schatten springen die mal auszuprobieren XD.
      Aber wenn du sagst das die von blackfencer gut sind gucke ich mich mal um. Vlt finde ich ja was geeignetes.

    Thanks a lot, I was kinda on the fence about getting one of these. I might just get one now, I usually just rented gear for hema and I have been thinking about getting some of my own kit, Do you have any recommendations for who to buy from and what not?

    • @historyandsabre
      @historyandsabre  2 года назад

      Hi, sure I can help you out a bit. Where are you located? That often makes a bug difference and I can only talk about the European market.
      Honestly, I don't recommend this model here as you first/only HEMA sabre for fencing on foot. Get the infantry version or some other model, if you're not explicitly wanting to train cavalry swordsmanship. You'll be much happier.
      Cheers

    • @historyandsabre
      @historyandsabre  Год назад

      Depends on your preferfed period and language. For getting into English-language sabre manuals dor fencing on foot I'd recommend Charles Roworth and John Musgrave Waite. For cavalry check out John Gaspard Le Marchant who wrote the manual linked to the sabre you see in the video.

    Is it safe to train with? I’ve heard some people say it’s so front heavy you could shatter a collarbone training at full force, even with a padded jacket.

    • @historyandsabre
      @historyandsabre  Год назад

      Yes, I'd say it is safe. It is pretty hefty but still manageable with full sparring equipment!

      @@historyandsabre Will the SPES Officers Jacket offer sufficient protection?

    • @historyandsabre
      @historyandsabre  Год назад

      @@matthewcoates756 I'd always recommend hard elbow and knee protection for anything more substantial that a smallsword. As long as you've got that, your're good.
      People also hit each other with two-handed steel sticks and heavy broadswords - you should be fine! :)

    • @historyandsabre

      Not only - these are cheaper options for when you want to simulate different weapons without spending a whole lot.
