Squaw Fries! Fried Pikeminnow Recipe. How to Cook Pikeminnow. Easy Finger Fried Local Fish Recipe
In this How To Episode, we fry up some Pikeminnow! Recently, while fishing for Cutthroat near our North Idaho homestead, we started hooking into small Pikeminnow, also known locally as Squaw Fish. Pikeminnow are a predatory fish that decimate the local cutthroat population. Most fisherman will just throw them up on the bank, but i had a better idea: why not come up with a yummy way to eat them! I like to call them "Squaw Fries." They were in an instant HIT! This recipe will also work with any small fish you can pick up at local grocery store or fish market.
Idaho has no regulations on Pikeminnow, and states like Oregon and Washington actually have bounties on Pikeminnow that will pay angle...

    Fire wood makes you warm twice , once when you cut it and once when you burn it . Where not far from you guys, and go through 5-6 chords a winter . We only burn red fir and larch . To old to use a splitting mall anymore, we use a splitter. There's lots to learn about heating with wood . Please be careful with the chain saw. They can hurt you really bad , only takes a second . BTW if your going to burn much pine be sure and burn it hot and, or clean ur chimney often .

    Not sure where you are in idaho . Were about 60 miles southeast of Courdealene, and they have been really bad this year . Never heard of trying for the queens early in the seaeson . Ill try that next spring . Cant wait for them to die off after the freeze .

      @@ada-yw1bb we aren’t far from you! They have been super bad this year. We have friend and neighbors that can’t even go outside right now… have been stung so many times. We have almost none. Each year it gets better and better if you follow those steps! Right now, get those fipronil raw meat balls out right now! All over! That will help big time. Stay consistent

    If ur on a well, it's not really a good idea to let the faucets drip . Hard on the well pump . Insulate/ heat areas with exposed lines, use heat tape if you have too. Make sure your lines are buried deep enough and dont run water lines on exterior walls . North idaho is a lot different than western Washington in the winter .

    For your drainage problems rent heavy machinery or hire it to dig the soil so the water drains away from your livestock. Use a French drain. First dig a trench . Then put the French drain pipe in to carry your water away. The French drain pipe has small holes in it and is placed in the ground to drain the water away. Backfill the trench. We used a French drain to protect a leaky basement. It fixed our problem. Watch Homestead Rescue videos with the Ramsey family on ideas on how to deal with your livestock mud issues. They're awesome at fixing livestock mud/drainage problems.

    Double wall pipe may last longer, but you lose most of the radiant heat available until you need to use insulated (or double-wall) to exit the home safely. With a season under your belts, were you able to keep the home warm enough, especially with the extreme cold this past few weeks?

    • @homesteadfashioned
      @homesteadfashioned 6 месяцев назад

      Hey! Yes the double wall has been great, and the wood stove has been our main source of heat. During those negative temp days we had to really stay on top of the wood, but still stayed in the mid to upper 60’s in the house. Once we finish insulating the ceilings, that will be the biggest game changer with warmth.
