      @@unknownplayrs2023 If you buy the Canon EF-EOS R Mount Adapter, there are no optical elements in it, so image quality will not be affected (or very minimally). I don't know about focus speed, but I used the EF to EOS M adapter and didn't notice any issues. So everything should be good as long as you get the adapter made by Canon.

    I have the Tamron f/2.8 24-70 with "VC". Using my M6 mark II, I can use the mount adapter with the crop factor. If I use the speedbooster, I can get 17mm shots at f/2. I have never used this Canon lens. The Tamron makes hand held shots easy.

      I would also choose Tamron over this. Better image quality, has stabilisation, smaller and lighter. Have to buy Canon very carefully, especially on internet. Most have been heavily used so there is big proportion of them with damage (internal - affecting image quality, external- bent rims).

    Well done - a thorough review. I love the 14-140mm. I have recently acquired a 12-40mm f2.8 Olympus which reminded me that the 14-140mm is not technically perfect. The 12-40mm on the other hand does seem technically perfect but also delivers an amazing rendering and bokeh. The 14-140mm nevertheless always amazes me at the long end, as it has such incredible reach for such a small lens and does generate some decent bokeh. While it is not wholly sharp, it is sharp enough if not pixel peeping. I prefer it over the alternative for travel etc, which is for me a full frame camera and a Canon 70-200mm f2.8L + 1.4 teleconverter!!

      Thank you! I am planning on getting an Olympus 12-40mm f/2.8 or a Panasonic 12-35mm f/2.8, but I always appreciate the versatility of a 14-140mm. It's great for traveling, and an MFT camera with its small lenses is ideal for travelers!

    • @apertureatlas
      @apertureatlas 22 дня назад

      The mount holds up pretty well. I have used even heavier lenses, such as the first version of a Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 L (1kg) and the Sigma 100-400mm Contemporary (1.16kg), on a Canon M50 with an adapter without any damage. I have even held the whole setup with one hand. However, it is recommended not to wiggle the camera too much in this situation. Most of the time, we place one hand on the lens and the other on the camera to balance the weight, so everything is fine.

    • @apertureatlas

      The short answer is that you need both. The long answer depends on how far away is the stage, how crowded is the place (if you have space to move around). I assume that you have an APS-C sensor Canon camera, since the 24mm f/2.8 from this video will not work on Full Frame cameras - the list goes on. I would find a way to borrow both (especially if I were to be someone that never photographed in that scenario) and see what works out. There is also the option to borrow a fast zoom lens like a 24-70mm f/2.8, there are shops that offer rentals.

On the dpreview, a more serious website, it says that it has "some degree of weather-sealing" , so its not the real deal. In contrast, The LUMIX G VARIO 12-60mm F3.5-5.6 ASPH. Gonna pick one up in a few hours. Was going to get a 77d mainly for the higher ISO options. The weather sealing is dropped wich is not a problem for me. However, yesterday i looked into a battery grip wich my 550d has had installed for about 10 years. And the 77D just does not support a proper one. That is such a dealbreaker for me. So, 80d it is. Excited to get a "new" body after so many years. 550d is going to my daughter for her 8th bday. Yeah she's young for a dslr. But why get a lesser one if ican find an excuse to get her something decent while upgrading myself. :P But in short. Nobody talks about the options for battery grip. This year, Canon, through one of their chief executives, mentioned that they will allow third-party lenses on their R cameras. Unfortunately, this statement was ambiguous - it’s not clear if or when we will indeed get Tamron, Sigma, or Samyang lenses for R cameras. In my opinion, not letting other brands produce lenses for them was one of Canon's biggest mistakes. Hopefully, things will get back to normal, as they should have been in the first place. Regarding the 35-150mm lens, the 35mm is not wide enough for group shots in tight spaces. The 24-70mm f/2.8 still remains the most versatile for weddings.

      @@apertureatlas I use Sony and I love that various companies compete with each other to produce the best lenses at lower prices than their competitors. I think Canon doesn't want to join this competition because they fear losing profit, which is a legitimate concern, but people aren't foolish. For example, I have a Sigma 85mm DG DN Art lens that's laser sharp. I don't believe anyone with common sense would buy the Canon alternative for twice the price. I'm glad Sony still has challengers because brands like Nikon and Fuji use Sony sensors in most of their cameras, increasing their exposure to Sony. It wouldn't be good for the market if this balance tipped even further in Sony's favor.

      There is quite a significant 'battle' between Sony and Canon fans, and from my observations, Sony fans are more vocal. This is neither good nor bad. I admit, I am more inclined to choose Canon, but I have avoided buying an R generation camera because I do not see good lens options (their mistake). I still won't buy an R camera until I see Sigma/Tamron/Samyang lenses available. Given Canon's greediness, it's understandable that Sony users are more vocal-they have a point, and they are right.

    I use it on my Canon R 8 😊 because R8 just automatically turns on the crop mode

    I love the 17mm focal length, and lack that in my lens collection. Do you think it is worth trading my LUMIX 14mm f2.5 for the 17mm f1.8?

      @apertureatlas Месяц назад

      The 17mm f/1.8 is worth getting only if you consider the 14mm f/2.8 to be too wide and if you really need a bigger aperture. In my opinion, the 17mm f/1.8 wins here because of its a faster lens, which is much needed in low light for MFT cameras.

    The Oly 17mm f1.8 is a very nice "everyday photography" lens, I shot with it for several years. It has great character for casual portraits and IMO has blur and bokeh reminiscent of much larger/faster glass. It's light, well built, it has very fast AF, and is nice to manual focus as well. That said, I think the Pana 15mm f1.7 (which I own now and have shot for about 6 months now) should be considered as well for "everyday photography". The PL15 has no field curvature, unlike the Oly 17 which has a lot of field curvature at the wider apertures. The benefit with the PL15 is even field of focus across the frame for architecture, landscape, etc. The downside is you don't get quite the same sense of blur/subject isolation as with the Oly for people photos. The Oly also has a much more difficult time maintaining contrast in backlit shooting situations - the PL15mm f1.7 is better behaved in those conditions. Finally, the Oly 17mm, despite bearing the MSC (movies-and-stills compatible) designation, has a rather noisy focus motor (at least when used on Pana bodies, can't say for sure on Oly) so its focus noise is distracting for video if you're using your camera's built-in microphones. The PL15mm is totally silent with continuous AF in video. This won't matter if you never shoot video, but if you do shoot video, it may be a consideration.

    This was the second lens I ever purchased (apart from the 2 kit lenses that came with my first DSLR, the 700D) because the 50mm f/1.8 was too much of a telephoto for everyday use combined with a crop sensor camera. However, I still have it today as one of my daily drivers for street photography, even on my R5 for all the reasons you mentioned in your video, and I’m really happy that I kept it all along!

    Many aberrations will be corrected by software in Panasonic cameras. If you use the lens on an Olympus camera, I think you will lose this automatic correction of lens aberrations. Great photos by the way.

      Yes, many chromatic aberrations will be corrected. We can also remove them later in Photoshop. I never considered them a significant issue, but they are taken into account in lens image quality tests. Thank you!
