  • In this video I tested three kit lenses to find out which is better at Distortion and Vignetting.
The three contenders are: Canon EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM, Panasonic Lumix G Vario12-32mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH and Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 EZ
All in-camera corrections were turned off during testing, including the most importnat two (in this case): Distortion and Peripheral Illumination corrections.

15-45 is a solid lens. I've looked back at the photos taken with this kit lens in the right conditions and correct settings when I had no other lens. They still look great and sharp but some corner areas are distorted ( especially faces). I don't use it that much anymore since i mostly use sigma 16mm, 32mm, 28mm, 55-200. But it's a solid kit lens.

I agree, it's a solid kit lens! It never disappointed me when there was no other lens in my camera bag. Great for general purposes.

Yup! It's a Pity that canon is killing this mount but I expect the lenses and cameras i have to last me at least 2-3 years before switching to Sony. Maybe even longer since I don't expect photo image quality to improve for APSC any more.

Bought a Canon M6 Mark II a couple of months ago, such a great camera! It's a big disappointment knowing that Canon will no longer produce EOS M cameras and EF-M lenses. 😞 I was still hoping, but my hopes vanished recently when they announced the R50, the M50 substitute.

@@apertureatlas yea, i am not impressed with the RFs mount. It will take few years before it will have a decent selection of lenses if ever. I will probably be buying Sony after that. But as long as the cameras and lenses will be working, i will be using them. The only thing from canon I respect is RF full frame mount and cameras now.

You want me to test the Canon 18-55mm too? I'll think about it. Will need to find her some opponents 🙂

Distortion and vignetting as main quality factors? Come on.

It was quite an experimental video, I won't be doing these anymore. I agree, there are other quality factors that are more important: Sharpness, Bokeh (that I cover in other videos), and so on... thanks for the feedback!
