There will be 3 rounds: Sharpness in the middle of the image (1), Sharpness in the corner of the image (2) and Diffraction (3).
0:00 Introduction
1:04 Round 1 (Sharpness in the middle)
2:02 Round 2 (Sharpness in the corner)
3:16 Round 3 (Diffraction)
4:02 Conclusion + Close-up photos
The lenses were tested using a Canon M50 camera set at 24 Megapixels. As this video focuses only on sharpness performance, the following in-camera corrections where turned on during testing: Peripheral illumination correction, distortion correction and chromatic aberration correction. Diffraction corrections were turned off.

I own both - thanks for the helpful analysis! I use the 22 for most videos, 28 for macro stills.
I have both lenses but have never compared them so closely together. I have managed to get some great results from the 28 in good light and thought at first was better being a macro lense but the 22mm is so sharp and compact. I also use the 22 for a full spectrum infrared camera which works very well. Thanks for continuing to post your comparisons for the efm mount.
Nice to see a fellow EF-M Mount user! In my case, also having both lenses, I use the 22mm 90% of the time, compared to the 28. The macro lens is also good, but it comes in handy only when a very specific close-up shot is needed. The 22mm can already cover a lot of close-ups with it's 15cm minimum focusing distance. For sure, If I had only one option, I would pick the 22mm lens while leaving the house. Haven't tried infrared photography yet, but I will, in the future. It is very interesting! Thank you for your comment!
i have the macro lens, which i used to use a lot, but since treating myself to the 32mm one, it is just collecting dust on a shelf!
I am in the same situation, my 28mm macro lens collects dust. I rarely use it.
28😍
