That's excellent looking Necromunda terrain. Many a good battle will occur on such detailed terrain. I buy my mdf but to be honest I think it actually looks better than GW stuff. I have GW terrain as well and mix them pretty seemlessly together to make exciting boards for down sump way. Have you had a look at Magrathea builder of worlds nedromunda terrain? You could pick up tips about lighting etc and introduce them to your terrain to take it to the next level. A few chains and wires hanging from walkways also goes a long way to adding a sense of the terrain being lived in. Damn good video my man and you really showcase what mdf terrain become.

Awesome terrain! . Although looks almost more time consuming than purely scratch built terrain. And you need to buy a big annoying machine. I still think scratch build is the way XD

MDF warps and can rot over time. It often looks cheap, like "we have Warhammer at home" vibes unless you put absurd amounts of time into it, which would pull me away from digging myself out of my pile of shame. I'd much rather 3d print personally and buy the GW terrain kits I want.. time is money so this method would actually cost me more

Side note. The cut out "waste" makes for great greebles. Also while it's an additional expense a cutting grid will lift your work off of a solid surface and makes for cleaner work and are available closer to your full cutting size.

You incorporated the cat claw marks into it quite well honestly. Looks like it fits pretty good. Unless someone already knew the cat had got at it, they would probably assume it was just part of the detailing. Plus the cat can claim it helped make the board too, which is a nice little bit of lore. Nice build, looks really good and well worth the time invested in making it!

Very cool....my son bought me a router CNC that just happens to have the ability to do laser cutting. Considering it was free to me sans a controller, a laser head along with the 1kw spindle I want is not much investment! I DL'd all the files from @bilbostomper to eventually use!

You can also look into Green stuff worlds, and they have mold things which give computer keyboard, screens, industrial pipes, fans, grats, and just much more even steel beams. You can use green stuff, milliput, or their other stuff which is a white powder mixed with water, and let it set ( my personal favorite because it's easy to break with some intended pressure) This stuff has really helped my terrain pop Either DIY, MDF, or even GWs own stuff just to add some nice extra bits and bobs to sell the "look"

Not saying GW is cheap, but only expensive like this, if you live in a poor country like Australia or New Zealand. The Gang Stronghold you showed for 193$ was 82€ in Europe ...

Be careful with cutting MDF as it can contain Arsenic always cut in a open room with a fan blowing the smoke out a window or door. i have learnt that error the hard way :(

Admittedly, I think mdf terrain can look cool. But since you're inherently working with flat pieces in varying configurations, it's a bit niche. Personally, I love the mdf terrain warsenal makes for infinity. The sleeker, anime inspired, aesthetic lends itself well to what you can accomplish with mdf. The things that make gw terrain really cool, and appropriate for warhammer, is the sculpted details. You just can't get the skulls, broken lights, exposed cabling, etc on mdf without adding it yourself.

You know, you can buy MDF kits without having to get a laser cutter? That's a thing right? RIGHT?

I commercially cut mdf and acrylic and you really do want to have an extraction and or filter system. As others have said the smoke particles are not something you want to be breathing. That said at this kind of price point there is definitely something to be said for it. I would also suggest raising the sheet being cut either with a honeycomb bed or even making a special hollow top box side to cut the pieces on the inside. This will reduce the smoke and the burn on the reverse as its caused by the laser bouncing up from the aluminium sheet. Letting it pas straight through and the laser loses focus before bouncing and thus energy.

I mean, this sponsored advertisement for an expensive MDF cutter with "save money" as a was a fun watch and all, and the terrain looks pretty sweet, but it's more amusing than anything else when the Bambulab A1 exists.

You can use polystyrene scraps as spru-goo. Polystyrene is just foamed styrene plastic, same as plasticard or GW kits

It looks good, but the whole process takes time, the mayority of us already spend time working or enjoin the hobby. Turning every house in a workshop just to enjoy some miniature games. Its easy and it takes less time to earn an extra 200 (choose your currency) buy the terrain, save time and so. Just my opinion. But my point is "your time is more important than money"

Only issue i have is how long it takes to put them together.

Yes, a laser cutter would be great to have, but my problem is that I live in a small apartment and don't have the space to set one up. If I lived in a house where I had access to a space where I could set it up, I would have had one a long time ago.

Lost my stepdad two years ago and I still have days where I don't know how to feel.. Having guys like you around makes it easier for me to get rid of the sadness and concentrate on being creative instead 😊
