Nothing makes a board of scenery look more lived in than some good old agriculture. Makes it seem like there's something in the world of the game, besides constant war.
i just picked up the quest of the ringbearer book myself. i want to make terrain for each mission too. so your video was perfectly timed. Im gonna copy precisly what you did :) thanks man.
Yes! That's awesome! I can't wait to start the campaign myself, my next mission is to make some vege tokens! They'll double as hobbit themed objective markers 😁
I’d suggest placing some masking tape onto your cutting mat when laying out fiddly small items like fence posts and planks. Roll both ends back on themselves slightly to stick the tape onto the cutting mat sticky side up. This will hold the posts in place while you glue the planks on, so that everything doesn’t move around while you’re working.
Very nice video. Clever use of serrated knife and filler... we get quite a bit of packaging material at work and something caught my eye... single sided corrugated cardboard packaging roll... works great... just glue that to your base board, and away you go. BTW youve sorely tempted me to make Maggots house! :)
Thanks Scott! True corrugated cardboard would work, does it not deform when it gets soggy with glue though? I also try to avoid things like this looking too perfect but I am annoyingly pedantic, its why it takes me ages to finish things! 🤣
Corrugated cardboard. Just peel off one side of the cover paper, instant furrows. No drying time, just paint and everything else you did the same way. Plus, you don’t even need the MDF board. You can attach the cardboard to it, if you wanted to, but it’ll be sturdy enough without it.
I'm about to start the Quest of the Ringbearer myself and was looking for these sorts of builds! How did it go for you? Are there any scenarios that aren't worth bothering with or did you find them balanced and fun?
@dicedrinksanddadjokes darn. I'd personally like for models to be able to stand in the entire field. I'll either just stick with flock only, or come up with something that hugs the ground a little more
Yeah, Sunday morning and a wonderful video from 3D-Games. I will try to build up my own field in the future. The idea with the knife to create rows for planting is awesome. Hope you enjoyed your Krombacher, which is a well known beer here in Germany. For the doormat-fields you can find a video at the german YT-channel TWS aka Tabletopworkshop. I did a build of these field and was really surprised how good it could be used as terrain.

"I took offence, and glued it in place!" - grandad puns have been unlocked I see XD
Granddad jokes! Aaaargh!
"I took a fence!" Haha. It worked even better with your Kiwi accent.
And a job well done. You won over another viewer.
Thanks
Tehehe my kids cringe which does nothing but encourage me haha 😂
Thanks for watching!
Offensive puns make everything better.
@mrsnakesmrnot8499 😂😂
I love that you used a bread knife to get those furrows. Absolute genius!
I have rare moments! 😆
“But I took of-fence” 😂😂😂
That one got some eye rolls from my wife 😆
Absolutely top video mate.
Loved the fence joke 😂😂 had me in my knees

Haha thanks Sean! My wife rolled her eyes at that one many times while I was editing 😆
Looks great mate, perfect little scatter piece for farmer Maggots field! Nicely done ;)
Thanks for watching! I now need to follow you and add little LED lanterns 😆

Yeah absolutely, adds nice colour too 😊
This is great! Keeping this one in my pocket for when we start working through the scenarios. 🤓
Thanks! Yeah I’m looking forward to running this campaign. Just need to make some hobbit themed loot tokens.
Solid video. Absolutely love the stuff you put out. Looking forward to all the quest of the ring bearer stuff yet to come!
Thanks mate! Yeah man I’m looking forward to working through it all too! 😁

Oh my Iluvatar. Bread knife is CLUTCH.
A rare stroke of genius if I do say so 😁
Just wanted to say this was amazingly helpful and I am absolutely stoked to build my own using your methods. Your tutorial was so easy to follow.
Thanks so much for commenting! It’s great motivation for me to hear that my vids are having a positive impact 😊

Thanks
Classs man I need some fields. Cutting the edges off the posts defos takes It up a levrl
Has to be done. I’ve seen others done without that step and they just look too clean.
Fantastic as always mate. Sensing a theme here. Should we expect a giant hobbiton or tookburrow build. Or maybe even a few scenarios battle reports
Spoiler alert! Haha I guess you’ll have to wait and see mate 😉

Nice surprise to wake up to on a monday morning!

Yeah man it was fun. I came 7th in the end which was pretty much just below centre. Angmar was a fun list to run with the magical shenanigans

very good day 2
Thanks again! 😆
This may be a dumb question, but what kind of sealant are you using after the alcohol?
Not a dumb question haha! I use my own home made stuff. I have a video showing the recipe 😁
great video. What kind of sealant did you put on the field in the beginning?
It’s a mix of matte mod podge and water with a couple drops of detergent. I’ve have a video showing how to make it 😁
I'm about to start the Quest of the Ringbearer myself and was looking for these sorts of builds! How did it go for you? Are there any scenarios that aren't worth bothering with or did you find them balanced and fun?
I’m embarrassed to admit that I’ve only played the first 2 scenarios so far! They were fun though! Good luck 😉
Here is an example of how you could do the furrows in a different way. The video has English subtitles.

Cool thanks mate, I’ll check it out!
Are miniatures able to stand on the veggie tufts? Or is that off-limits
No one must trample the veges! Admittedly they do make it a little awkward for minis to balance on.
@dicedrinksanddadjokes darn. I'd personally like for models to be able to stand in the entire field. I'll either just stick with flock only, or come up with something that hugs the ground a little more
@mikefish1124 flock would look fine. It’s all about giving the impression of veges right? So doesn’t need to be tufts if you don’t want.
@dicedrinksanddadjokes sure, except the tufts just look so cool lol. Oh well, I'll try and figure out something
I am going to check what else is missing 😂
Just your toothbrush , blow drier and hair straightener. Don’t worry about it 🤣🤣

Hi Adam that's a nice little field you have there. I've not often seen this scenario played. Will you be playing it?
That is certainly the plan. I just need to make some vege tokens first 😁
