No joke, this is 100% the exact type of board I have been thinking about doing and you have done such a materful job of how to make it! My whole gaming group is going to work on creating one very soon. Thank you so much!
Thanks very much for the kind words! I’m glad you can find it useful 😁
I'm brand new to this hobby. So doctor suggested this video and the hobby to retain my fine manipulation skills as I have a polyneuropathy disease so thanks for your help! 👍
You are most welcome! 😊
You, kind Sir, are my Holy Grail of RUclips Channels. I will watch all of your work, and then I'll watch some more. And If I die watching, well... that will be a life well spent.
You are too kind! Thanks so much and I'm glad you're enjoying my content 😊
I just find this channel .... i don't know why RUclips not show me this before.
I'm going to watch all your videos this night. My wife will sleep quietly.
Cheers from the South of Spain !!!!
Thanks buddy, I hope you like it and share with your friends! 😆
I've used this guide almost word for word to build my own board, really brilliant video, thank you!
That’s great to hear mate thank you! How did your board turn out?
BRILLIANT!!! I'm an LGS owner expanding into WH and this solves so many of my obstacles towards growing a community!
THANK YOU!!!!
Glad it helped! Good luck with your LGS community mate! 😁
Very creative, thanks for sharing.
My pleasure 😊
I used fake asphalt for my trench-board, mixing it with "bird sand" and enough water to make it super swampy. Looks almost like the surface of the moon xD
Haha nice! Well from all accounts some of those trench warfare battlefields did look like the surface of the moon so you’re on theme!
Gorgeous.
Thank you! Cheers!
Brilliantly done! Thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video - I'm looking to build one but this was the video that finally gave me the "template" I'm after
That's great to hear, I'm glad you liked it and thanks for letting me know! 😁
Looks amazing!
Thanks!
That is awesome lots of time put in!
Yes it was! Thanks 😊
Awesome tutorial mate, you have inspired me to build my own table
I’m glad you appreciated it! Good luck with your build 😊
Great tutorial mate! :) keep up the good work, I really enjoy your tempo and detail
Thanks a lot for watching 😁
The board looks great. Fantastic video. I feel like this is a type of board that anyone could have a go at creating something similar. Other videos, although amazing in their detail, make me want to hide back and not try to make my own board. Keep up the good work
Thanks for that Wade! I really wanted it to be accessible for regular folks. We don't all have to be full time and super well resourced creators to make cool looking stuff! Although in saying that, I would love to be a full time hobbyist! 😂
@@dicedrinksanddadjokes I think you have the right attitude and certainly the base line skills to make it happen. Keep it up. I’m certainly enjoying your content. Only upward from here.
Thanks man I really appreciate it!
Awesome work mate. I have recently got back into MESBG and saw your video of the event in the Tron last year so subscribed, I had no idea you did this stuff! It's really well done mate and I'm mad keen to give it a go myself! Really well laid out and explained mate! Top stuff! =)
Thanks maaaaate! Glad you enjoyed it 😁
@@dicedrinksanddadjokes One sneaky follow up question! I have started my board based on this video! Do I just grab any 30mm thick Polystyrene sheets from let's say Bunnings or Mitre 10? I was worried about it going a bit funny when cut and flaky, but I guess the skulptomould would smooth the edges?
Oh and could you please tell me what product you used for the contours? I couldn't find anything called Skulpt-o-mould?
@@TheAntiGooner Sculptamold. They sell it at Gordon Harris for $35. Otherwise you could use geek gaming’s modelling compound which sets much faster but is more expensive. And yeah I just used polystyrene from Bunnings. It makes a hell of a mess when you cut it but yeah the Sculptamold will hide it. Good luck! 😊
This is the way
Phenomenal! Great work.
Thanks mate! Glad you like it 😊
Just came across your videos and I have to admit I am loving them more than a lot of other channels that make videos regarding this kind of stuff, keep it up.
Welcome aboard! Thanks so much for the positive comment 😁
This is great you make it look so simple
Thank you! 😊
Epic board ! I would to have one like this at home
Thanks! 😁
Hey bit of a question - what does the isopropyl alchohol do here? Adhesive?
The iso helps the matte sealant to flow and get into all the layers of cover.
@@dicedrinksanddadjokes gotcha, thanks!
lovely board
Thanks! 😊
Just got some supplies from Home Depot to start my first board! Pretty much have this on repeat for my research. 😂
Yes! Awesome, let me know how you get on! 😁
@@dicedrinksanddadjokes will do 😎 I’m thinking of making a video of it!
Nice! Can’t wait to see it!
Thank you so much for this video. I used it and followed your steps to create my own desert scape version for my husband’s birthday. I have never done this before and was able to make my own thanks to you. Cheers!
You are so welcome! I love hearing stories like this, that's a great idea for a bday present btw 🤩 Thanks for watching Megan! 😊
absolutely gorgeous! im so hoping warhammer the old world will not have the old-style tedious wheeling manouevres, because that just makes terrain a headache to the gameplay unfortunately. Well done, thanks
Thanks buddy! Having beautiful looking terrain is such an important aspect to tabletop wargaming for me! But yeah it can be annoying for those games that move units in formation blocks
great board. wish I had the room to make one
When there’s a will there’s a way Kenny. Still not sure where I’m going to store mine tbh 🤦♂️😂 🤷🏼♂️
Hello dear, what a fantastic tutorial video... Thank you so much ! Just want to do my own one now !!! I just would like to have a precision...could you explain once again what you are spraying on to fix what you just have disposed ? Indeed, in the material list I just saw PVA and Polyurethane glue but what is in you two spray ? Many thanks by advance and once again, what a great job !!!
Hi there! The spray is isopropyl alcohol followed by my own home made matte sealant. I have a video on how to make the matte sealant using modpodge. Hope that helps!
@@dicedrinksanddadjokes many thanks for your quick answer !!! I will give it a try soon ! I just try to go back to my "Tatooine" like table first upgrading with all I learnt through your video...and then I will have to prepare a table for The Old World in the spirit of your own one. PS : the MDF you use is just 4,75mm ? For the basis and the sides ?
@@karezeg yes that's correct. 4.75mm. Good luck with your board 😊
@@dicedrinksanddadjokes Many thanks 😉!
Awesome Tutorial! Incredibly helpful! im trying to find out the reason for spraying isopropyl alcohol when you put Matte Finish on everything. Wouldnt that cause issues?
Glad you enjoyed it! The iso helps the sealant to flow into all the layers of aggregates and flocks rather than just forming a layer on top. Leads to a stronger bond.
Hey! Really good tutorial video. May I ask you what is the brand name of the matte finish you’ve used? Thanks!
@@dannyperron6498 thanks! The sealant is home made. I have a video showing how to make it 😁
Great stuff once again, love the flow of your videos and lots of useful tips for new and experienced hobbyists. Shame I'm not in Kiwiland these days, looks a good board for a game
Hey thanks man! I can’t wait to play on it myself. Next batrep for sure!
Hi, I am building this and following the instructions, thank you for the video. Quick question at 6 min 48 second to 53 second mark you mention spraying the board with "isopropyl alcohol and then mat sealant" ---what is mat sealant?
I have another video showing how to make it. It’s basically watered down mod podge but you could also use watered down white glue with a little varnish. Or pay the dollars for a commercial version.
@@dicedrinksanddadjokesthank you so much! I typed up all the steps and am building now! I’ll let you know how it goes as this is my first time, and your channel is a big help, now subscribed
@@j-wh4pc good luck with your board build! 😁
Really lovely work good sir!
Thank you kindly!
It really looks good. My "Problem" with these boards is always, that the units on movement trays would look a bit out of place, its so nicely done with the ups and downs but models would look funny in rankt units.. I hope you get what I mean:)
Also I would like to hear (whaaat!?) a board like this, that dosn't make so much noice while rolling dice. This crackling sound because its all hard from wood, rocks and gluo .. English is not mother language, I hope again this make sence^^ I like the feeling and sound of battlemats, but hate the fact that its all one level. Maybe you can make something better! Ha, what a challenge!!😎💪
Actually that's an intriguing idea. Would be cool to build a board with an area that doubles as a dice tray!
Thats funny I was actually hoping you would do a board build as your terrain is fantastic, clump foliage was a good choice. Love the idea of reinforcing the board but I'm not sure I trust myself with power tools.
Thanks mate! Give it a go with the power tools, what could go wrong? Just don't let Bucky near them!
@@dicedrinksanddadjokes Famous last words. Don't worry he has his own set 🤪
What kind of glue you used? Thanks!
Not pva, but in first part
Check description mate 😁
PVA and
Polyurethane Glue. Thanks;) 🙏
@imagO-Mundi no worries, good luck with your build!
hello im planning on building a board but was wondering where to find polystene foam? this would help alot thank you
Hi there! You can usually find polystyrene foam at craft stores, hardware stores, or online retailers. Insulation firm usually have XPS. Good luck with your board project!
@@dicedrinksanddadjokes THANK YOU🙏
What purpose does the IPA serve used in conjunction with the matte sealant?
Helps it to flow into all layers of aggregates.
Absolutely great board and tutorial, THANK YOU!
Question for you: I've been using your video as inspiration for my own. I had a total catastrophe with the flocking iso/matte sealant process. The flock came off in clumps. Maybe I didn't spray enough varnish on? What type ofatte sealant are you using? Lord, I've noticed I had to go through a bunch of expensive modelling sealant. Might look to the hardware store type.
Hey man thanks for watching! I use a homemade mix for my sealant (I have a video for it 😉) its basically watered down mod podge. I did have to use a significant amount of matte sealant to really fix the clumps down, so using a cheaper alternative is definitely a good idea! 😆
Will mixing the flocking with PVA and then spreading it around seal the same as spraying?
Would probably end up with clumpy bits of foam rather than a nice sprinkled coat
Bummer that you "screwed up" your project in the first two minutes... 😅
Seriously though, beautiful work. I'm saving this one for a future project.
Hahaha yeah classic terrible dad joke! Thanks man, hope it goes well for you 😁
I'm new to creating miniature and mini landscape , could u explain briefly about the isopropyl alcohol?
Hey buddy, the iso breaks the surface tension which allows the Matt sealant to penetrate all the layers of substrate. Otherwise what can happen is that it only covers the surface and you don’t get a strong bond.
@@dicedrinksanddadjokes I see , thanks for explaining!
@@dicedrinksanddadjokes should I use the 70% or 99% isopropyl alcohol?
@@kennniiikc3162 I used 100% but I’m sure 70% would work fine. I know of people who use mentholated spirits because it’s cheaper and have even heard of people using vodka! 😆
Hey just wondering, what kind of polystyrene did you use for this?
I used standard S grade insulation polystyrene. Pretty sure it was 50mm thick sheets.
@@dicedrinksanddadjokes Cheers!
off topic but where did you get the display cases that displays your minis??
Haha fair enough! My wife bought them for me second hand from a shop that used them to display product. No idea what the brand is or where you'd get them from normally 🤷♂️
So isomatte sealant really holds these loose stones into place perfectly?
Sure does!
What kind of sealant do you use?
It’s homemade. I have video showing how I make it 😊
Question: the first layer of paint you used the dark brown, is that just paint or is it a primer? Some videos I have seen use a primer paint for the first layer.
Hey Scott, I just used a basic brown artists paint. Everything is sealed with the tile grout anyway it’s really just to make sure there’s no stark white patches that show through if I miss an area or don’t get a decent coverage.
What are you using as matte sealant?
A homemade mix using modpodge. I did a video on how to make it
What colour tile grout was used?
Hi there, I used mocha.
Im curious, why use iso alcohol instead of just the spray glue does the iso prep the surface somehow?
Breaks the surface tension to allow the glue to penetrate the various layers
@@dicedrinksanddadjokes oh that totally makes sense! Thank you. 😊
40k views... I may be late, but I arrived precisely when I was meant to
Haha thanks mate!
How do you store this type of terrain safely?
It is difficult. I have shelves that I built especially for terrain like this using plywood. The shelves are wide and high enough that each section can slide in without scraping.
This is sectional, not modular
I guess so
love this. nice. im yet to build a board like this, im still doing dungeon stuff.
Nice, good luck with the dungeons!
Nice easy build and a great board look. I love it but I can't store it! And the excuse that it 'followed me home' doesn't work! lol See ya
Oh no! I still haven't worked out how I'm going to store mine 😂 I may have to get out the power tools again 🤔
