This looks great Luke! Solid day of work. The room full of helpers probably made up a bit for being away from your workshop. I've gotta find a room full of goobers to help me with stuff!
I know I'm a big twat, but I would hardly class my weight as a "room full!"! ;)
@@donewiththis-2012 Hahaha, I said "room full of helperS" not "roomfull of helper" :-) Great work on this board man!
Hey Goobs!
Great video dude!
Taking this concept (Maybe not quite as large) to conventions and building a board over the course of a day while someone else is on the stand next to you selling the products you're using would be very cool.
It's eye catching, it prompts conversation, it's an excellent showcase of the product, and it's something different than what you usually see at conventions!
That's a great idea.
Isn't this what he's doing?
Love the paintwork on the rocks. Really high quality, particularly for a quick job.
It looked really good. I am building a WWI casualty clearing station set in 1917. It's a railway layout and I have learned lots of new skills which is the appeal for me.
Yeah, I totally get the whole working away from home thing. There's a local convention that I have a stall at every year, and I basically paint, display my work, and answer people's questions and all that. There was ton of little things I forget cause I don't think I'll need them, then suddenly realise that I'm without them just as they are necessary. Luckily the convention is held about 15mins drive from home, so I can usually get so done to drive to mine and pick them up, or mind the stall why I go get them myself.
Considering how long a board normally takes to make, that looks amazing. Well done Luke, you're a star.
One Year later and I am gratefull that you did that video. I am planning on building a small southern coast-village for a 1/43 Racing-Game and you did give me alot of ideas how to actually get the Scene alive and after all, you gave me a really awesome tutorial on how to do it better than my way (I allready build Warhammer Fantasy Tables a couple of years ago, but now I want to do it a lot prettier!)
So... Thanks a lot, mate! You really helped me with this video and all the other videos of your channel (not all yet, but I am working on it ;) )
Can't believe this was a year and a half ago.....seems odd seeing all thouse people in close proximity without a care in the world. Fun times helping out on this build!
I spent 2015 through January of this year with my "studio" essentially being a footlocker. Paint, tools, lamp, extension cord, whatever project I was working on at the time. When you work out of a foot locker, you learn what you need to bring to these type of projects. Even now with a proper work bench, I'll go to work on models at the game store and have everything I need to build, prime, paint, and base a model.
Great build though and very motivating!
Hey Luke, the end result looks great. Was cool meeting you on the Friday as well.
This is AWESOME!!! I love LOTR and Hobbit stuff, and the board totally captures the vibe! And in 12 hours?! Absolutely awesome!
It's cracking bud, especially for a one day build. I don't think the trees were that terrible, great for a gaming board.
Awesome work :)
Every reason to be happy with that result mate, great work. It's truly awful working away from all your home kit. I've got most of the stuff I need to start building my 40k board, will be ordering some of your stuff in coming months to use on it for sure. Great stuff.
A weeks work compressed in a long day 😸 5:55 burn the foam! Hot air gun works wonders 🔥
I like that you show how to make things quick and cheap which is great but if that's all you're goal is then it really take the love and passion out of this hobby and makes it a business which i know it is for you but not most of us.
Beautiful board. Inspired me to get to work finishing my terrain pieces
Very nice especially for a 1 day build. Great details.
Nothing better than being on your feet with a hangover. Looks great considering though, nice one guys.
Outstanding board Luke! If you are throwing the trees away I'll 'ave 'em!
Though Ents looked bloody marvelous.. great work as always mate 🤩👍🏻
This makes me so happy 😂 I love scenic boards. Would have loved to have attended the weekender but work :l Hopefully next year!
Great video! I love how honest you are hahaha drinking and building terrain is fun
Have no idea why this popped up in my feed.... But this was cool. Almost makes me want to get into war games.
Have you ever tried using hot mud as your compound? You can mix pretty much anything you need into it for texture and it sets up quickly. You just mix small batches at a time so you don't get too much waste. It will save you a ton of time waiting for things to dry.
We used to mix paper pulp, baby powder, crushed shells, sand, Styrofoam beads and paint right into the mud. Fresco terrains. :)
It does get hot while curing. Not blister burns hot, just hot.
EDIT: Oh, and never try to temper it (add more water) once it's mixed. Make sure each batch you mix is in a clean container. Just one small amount of remaining hot mud can cause a fresh batch to go off almost immediately, ruining the batch.
Really nice job! and even more points to you for getting such a good result while being hangover! ^^
I do Tabletop Roleplay games and this looks amazing.
Cheap, quick...and gorgeous!!👍👍
Excellent work, dude... great to see you in stockport supporting the middlearth guys :)
I can see a tv show doing this sort of thing being popular. Everything else has had it done it's time for terrain to go mainstream. Make it happen luke, you can do it.
Amazing work Luke! Now for a question/suggestion, that possibly will move you out more out of your comfort zone :) How about making some 6mm terrain tips and tricks? The landscaping is the same but forests and trees etc. Would be intressting to see what ideas you have on it :)
@@GeekGamingScenics Can the basic siwing (don't know how it's spelled in english :o) on the board be the way to go? Maybe some way to make tufts be like readymade bushes, kinda like how they make the flower tufts but with really small clump foliage on em, just throwing out ideas :o
I'm going to build a ACW board this summer in 6mm so just looking for ideas and inspiration.
Awesome video, terrific table, and in 14 hours while drinking! Love this channel! Cheers 🍻
Great bored Luke cracking weekend. Glad you had a good time!
That's some great one day build mate! awsome. Hahaha making trees while you've been drinking, been there too, you are a brave man :)
This is the second video I've watched of yours, love how you do things..make it look easy and enjoyable to watch, plus inspiring to crack on and do things..will be looking to buy some of your products ..
Awesome idea with the cocktail sticks!
Hi, Greeating from El Salvador ! All tour vídeos are very Nice ! Thanks friend
I can barley make a cup of tea when Im hungover never mind a board.
Scotsman then make some *barley* tea
Bro it's barely
your channel is so inspiring i cant wait till i can try to replicate these techniques on my own board one day
Looks great. Fantastic job in 14 hours.
What was that grey plastery stuff you used for the cliffs and smoothing out the hills
Lukes Aps - Geek Gaming Scenics thanks
That moment when you just come back from a 3 months internship in Stockport as a foreign Student , and it's just when you get back home you learn you've been working next to Element Games for the past 3 bloody months ! :')
This looks great! I really wanna make one and I don't even play any tabletop games!
True artists. Well done!
You should (if you can) do a follow-up to this. Get some footage of how well the board has held up over the time since you built it.
you are knackered.
bless you
Awesome to see, can't wait to see more!
Board looks amazing. Truly great work. Not sure about the "Quick" in the title. 14 hours with that team of guys works out to about a weeks worth of work, at least.
You come a long way from 4 years ago. Kudos
Hope you are going to film some more footage like this at the next weekender. It would be great to see some of the finished pieces of the people that signed up for your mini board builds class. Can I ask what did you use for the paths on this build ?
Cheers 👍🏻
Lukes Aps. Cheers bud you are a star.
Looks great, pro tip - biscuit tea might make it easier to get through next time. Not as much fun though 😁
Luke this looks great! Way to go bud!
Looks awesome! Well done, man. 😀
That was amazing , board look quality. :-)
Maybe better preparation and less Beers next time otherwise yeah looks good from our point of view. Cheers Matey.
Are you going to bring your stuff to Australia cause we need it to
I think the tree's look great.
I like this Kind of Video very much
Awesome work, wish I had the space to do this kind of work!
Well done fellas
Do you have a link or name of the white powder you used to fill the gap?
I don't even mind those trees, in the setting they are a little out of place but in more a mirkwood/ dying wood they wouldn't be.
Hiya Luke, That's bloody amazing! Kind Regards Johnny
Your pal looks absolutely finished lad 😂😂😂😂
Luke is it possible to make a great looking diorama with grass but without Using static grass? Specifically for 4mm/oo scale railways?
@@GeekGamingScenics I've just finished watching it 😂 serves me right for commenting before finishing a video! Nice one though mate absolutely cracking effort!
Oh dem treez! "Kill me! Kill me with fire! I dare you! KILL! MEEEE!" :D Given your exhaustion after 14 hours and beverage inhalation state they are acceptable. I would do far worse without alc and fresh and relaxed :D Overall, dope table!
Could someone please tell me. For what games would you use something like this for?
This board was made for the Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game by the company called Games Workshop. Just Google it to find out more, its a great game, if you like Lord of the Rings. :)
Hi Great video. Very entertaining. If it is possible, I think that we need a list of the materials that you use. Thank you Cheers
Looking awesome! Can I ask, what's exactly this grey gooish compound to fix rocks and stones? Looks really nice!
Bit late to the party here but love the work - already ordered some modelling compound! You talked about “burning” the board at one point - how did you do this? Cheers.
Where did you buy the stuff from if i may ask?
@@distech4190 Fox Miniature Dioramas on eBay. Rubbish packaging so bag burst a bit but otherwise ace service. Not tried it yet - really good instructions with it as well.
Hey Luke, appreciate this was from a while back but wondered if you had listed anywhere the details of the items you used to create this? From you own stock I mean so that if I was going to try and build this what would I require and in what quantities. All the way down here in Australia I’d need to do an order in one go. Thanks
Lukes Aps - Geek Gaming Scenics thanks Luke I’ll head over to that site and have a look. Love your work by the way, The Stalingrad 40K build I’ve also got my eye on really solid work there. Enjoyed seeing you build that.
i don't understand very well the english, sorry for that. with your spray gun what you spray on the table? something for the grass i think. thank you for create this channel
Awesome video! I know this could probably a whole video but any quick thoughts on doing something like this but breaking into 3 2x4 boards (for easier transport)? (The US and Canada distributor link is busted)
what is the stuff u use for the grass
Thats bloody brilliant mate! Never mind a board in a day it takes me 3 days complete one of those Warlord ruined farmhouses. The trees looked fine as well. Nice one
Suburban Scumbag what warlord ruined farmhouses? You mean I scratch built one for nothin!!!! Lol
@@TopTableGaming Hah! Here mate that scratchbuilt farmhouse is worth 10 of Warlords. Great job pal its an impressive bit of terrain!
Shoutout to the guy wearing the Dye hoodie!
I live in Stockport and had no idea Element Games was a thing?? Only down the road from me too
Joey Whitehurst dude!!!! We’ll keep October free ;)
We’re doing it all over again!!!!!! What systems do you play?
Where are the rock faces from, do you sell them?
Would you consider sponsoring a build? We get all sorts of gaming hobby conventions where I live and I'd love to buy some space and do a build with your product. Might help promote your product and channel here in Canada, everyone still using woodland scenics. Food for thought.
How much dark green flock did you go through when you coated the board?
Отличный ролик, спасибо!
When you said
burn did you heat the edges of the foam?
Your one day builds are better than my 6 month builds.
How did you get that beast into your car to get it home?
He didn't - some one won it as a raffle prize at our event!
anyone know if you can use bog standard filler instead of the modelling compound?
how much flock comes off if you turn the table upside down? Its why I try to steer clear off it and stick to texture paints.
I imagine next to nothing. The foam flocks in my experience set like concrete when sprayed with pva and water seen as its absorbed by the sponge
All the flock was sealed with a mix of pva/isopropanol/water. They shouldn't come off.
thanks for the answer, wife wouldn't be please with flock tracked around the house :D
What did you burn it with?
I'd order from your site more because I love supporting you but the shipping here to the states is rough :(
How do you transport it?
superb
Brilliant.
Was that Mel the Terrain Tutor in the background?
Ooooh!
The balls on you! super hung over and building a terrain board in one day!
I randomly watch your video on using spray can primer then go looking for video on building a war gaming table and pick a random one and it was one of your videos. Ironic
7:42 what is that dough?
Jeeh. Fresh viddy
that was great
Does anyone know of something that is similar to the Modeling compound used in the video? That UK to US shipping is twice the price of the product :(
So I'm a noob...what happened outside with the fire?
Lukes Aps when you say, “burned in the land forms” what do you mean? Do you take a heat gun to the edges, or is this more of a Jimi Hendrix style job (lighter fluid and a match)?
the one thing I can't stand about flock is how you will FOREVER have tiny crumbly bits of fake grass flaking off on you and your minis until the end of time.
Looks like something from Diablo
