Can we get a 3 or 6 month check in on the durability? Itll be interesting to see how it copes with being rolled up constantly.

I bought a 6' X 9' dark brown indoor/outdoor carpet. I then rolled on a coat of tan-coloured matte house paint followed by glue and flocking. 25 years later and it still looks great.

Did you have a look at Butyl pond liner as an option? It is much heavier than the neoprene you tried, so can be used thinner and stilllay flat.

Loving all the tiny hammer projects of late. Completely inspiring me to try it and make a matt like this for it. Keep up the great work gents! Also a dedicated tinyhammer series would be great on places to find models, terrain and rule sets that work well with it (beyond the usual GW sets).

For the wetsuit batllemap that ended up wavy.... it actually make a terrain thats naturally uneven with slopes. The only problem is that is pretty unstable but could explore the idea of shooting the underside with expansion foam. I know it defeats the purpose of a rollable battle map but still think if could be a cool idea.

Off cuts and end rolls of breathable, waterproof, roofing felt. Doesn’t shrink, lays flat, easy to glue to. I used various ends of silicone sealant to texture edges of roads, stream banks etc. I made my nephew loads so he can have various scenarios and it cost naff all.

@@mandowarrior123 Hi Warren, the off cuts I use are a heavy duty fabric that comes on a 50 metre roll here in the uk. This stuff doesn't warp and paint etc doesn't leak through. It has a slight fluffy texture to trap condensation in a roof and this helps paint, glue etc to stick. It is as light as a feather and doesn't warp. Why not try a piece of your stuff with some left over paint?

I made a desert terrain mat from faux leather/leatherette 10 years ago. I used brown acrylic caulk and have had no problems with shrinkage or cracking, so it probably depends how thick you apply it. I smeared it on thin and patted with a sponge to give it a rough texture, so no other products such as flock required. I also marked in tyre ruts and cracked ground at the same time.

Hi Luke, have to disagree about the caulk. I used the cheapest caulk I could find, emulsion paint, some water and sand. I made two 6.5 x 5’ mats and they’re both still going strong. The second has a few minor cracks in it, I think because I skimped on the caulk and used too much paint. Since it’s an arid mat it doesn’t matter. I added Woodland Scenics turf to both while the mix was wet and even that is still looking good.

I think you ought to try the neoprene (thin wetsuit material) one more time. The only difference I would recommend is using a heat gun or a hair dryer to heat up the material a bit. The material should flatten right out and behave better. This technique should actually work for all the materials in this vid. Awesome content, love it keep ‘em coming.

    Heyo GGS,
Great vid, but would it be possible to add like a table with compression of costs at the end of the vid? I'm kinda worried, that you're approaching printed neoprene mats with some of those creations. Yours would be definitively nicer to play on, but for example the rubber one doesn't look very portable or storage friendly(either it's heavy as F, awkward to manipulate or you should start lifting :D).
Have you considered using waterproof truck tarp as a base? IMHO it should be sturdy enough, shouldn't shrink/stretch and it's affordable
Also if you ever follow up on this video, here's an idea - shallow textures like wheels marks in dried mud, fissures in ground, rural footpaths...
