Flosstube #2 (2024) Why stitching feels so good, a stitchy update and SAL announcement!
Thank you Arica I am so glad I am not the only one that orders and forgets what it goes to! 😊
Hi Arica! I am using valdani threads on another Risewood manor, on 32 count. I didn,t like 3 ply so have been separating it to use 2. I use a separate floss card and do a few at a time to avoid single strays. Beautiful threads. Sorry I'll miss you at StitchNorth. Hope to meet you another time!
Definitely do a video on your process of remolding the sewing box ! ❤
I've never stitched with Valdani, but I'd suggest getting a scrap of 32 count, from the same dyer, and trying it to see. From the look of the floss, I'd say that separating the strands, into two strands, is going to be a pain - but you could test that as well.
Beautiful stitches, specially Dutch Beauty, 👍👍👍
I so enjoyed your video! I love the 3 ply on 28 count. I'm stitching Autumn Quaker as well as called for. My sister bought a 32 count and is separating them without a problem.
Oh good to know! Do you think you could use 3 on the 32?
@@FibersandFlossCanada I find it to be fairly bulky on 28 and I am someone who always prefers two over two on 36
I've only used the three ply Valdani on 40 count for Brenda Gervais patterns. I had no problem separating it, and stitching with one strand. I did unravel the balls and put it on thread drops (sacrilege!!)
Every now & then we get a Blue Moon...if you stitch your Cat on the neutral linen, you could stitch your moon anything between a light icy blue to a vibrant blue and it would still be fresh & funky. Thanks for the new episode!!!
Katy Strachen-ornamentations used Jacob’s book to do open hem on her latest sampler. It was spectacular!! Love to see a video how to on your sewing table and your little sewing case. It was very elegant!!!
Hi Arica - I would stick with the mallow for the turkey because there are so many bright colours in it that your background should recede and let the turkey be the star. Yes, a video about the table would be fabulous.
I love that autumn quaker pattern! It's going to be great. Your box is just gorgeous!❤ I wish I could be able to do one for me, but I'm terrible with such projects! 😂 Please, please film the process for the sewing table. Have fun doing it!😊
I think you should do the lighter color!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts :) Happy stitching!
Yes yes yes. Please make a video of your sewing table. If I say yes again will it count for four yes's? Lol. 😅
Haha YES! I love it :) thanks so much for tuning back in today. Happy stitching :)
Love all your stitching Erica it is beautiful. I would love to see a video on finishing your box the little one you showed looks lovely. I have just started to sew and I'm wondering if I could make something similar, although I don't think it would look as polished as yours!! I vote Straw fabric for your turkey with a change of thread. 😉
Thanks for tuning in. I encourage you to make a box! It’s only cutting and pasting. I ended up hand sewing a small rectangle of wool for a needle pad which was secured by tying down 3 buttons but you could skip that part and just glue down a piece of fabric or felt :)
Loving the progress on your butternut road piece! That's one I want to stitch as well and I love how you're using it to learn as well. She will be stunning! You've got some great starts lined up!
Thank you! 😊 I have so much I want to stitch and just not enough time! Thanks for tuning in today 🍁🍂
A video would be great!
Thank you for sharing your opinion :)
Turkey Day is so good! ❤ Can’t wait yo see yours
Thank you!
Fun and informative video as always! I enjoyed seeing your progress on your projects but I really liked watching the special Japan products haul! Looking forward to seeing you again 😍🧶🪡🧵
Thanks for tuning back in :) My friend is so lucky to have such great haul from Cohana- it’s so GORGEOUS! Happy stitching 🧵 🪡🍁🍂
Such a lovely and unique pieces of furniture, never sen anything like that? It would be really interesting to see a video on your process on the make over, please make one!
Thank you for sharing your opinion, it will be a fun project :)
Wow....lots of things...lol...love it. Re turkey and the fabric, I love the straw. One of my favourite linens and you could always make the leaves more Canadian fall colours. Love that idea. I would love to see a video of your sewing table makeover if you have the time. Thanks for all Arica.
Thank you Hanna :) I’m dying to try the straw as I’ve never stitched on it and the color is just 😍😍😍. I love your idea of making the leaves more CDN colors…
Lovely and memorable stitching! I love your sewing box and would enjoy a video about how you do it!
Sounds good! Thank you for tuning in and sharing your opinions :)
I enjoyed watching your flosstube as always. I usually don't like to give my 2 cents comment, but you asked for it.For your turkey, not the straw. You are right about the leaves blending in, but more that that I don't think he would pop. I love your reconciliation piece and the fact that you are educating yourself. What a wonderful idea, you inspire me to learn even more about our first Nation peoples.I had friends from OKA Quebec and learned a lot especially during the Oka crisis.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts Donna, I value them :) regarding the indigenous culture, we have so much to learn, all it takes is willingness :)
Thank you for the inspiration! Always a joy to watch. Oh, its a Turkey wattle. Take care!
Yes that’s right! Thanks for tuning back in, happy stitching!
Thank you Erica for sharing your projects. I am so inspired to stitch Autumn
Thank you for tuning in! I hope you enjoy your autumn stitching as much as I do! 🍁🍂🌰🧵🪡
Brilliant jewelry case makeover Really sweet details 😍 Can I place an order with you now?!!! Lots of lovely stitching The quote you shared is fabulous, I’m writing that one down I’d love to see a video on the sewing table remodel. Thanks for sharing
Thank you! I had so much fun making it :) If you would like one, seriously, just message me at fibersandfloss@gmail.com as I would love to make more! Happy stitching!
I would like to see a video of your sewing table makeover! (I love your jewelry box makeover -- very nice!) I am working on the Grump Susan QAL for EPP. I fell in love with the Clover Dome Threaded Needle Case for EPP. I have two...I thread all my needles and then I can just EPP away without stopping. :) I think the best thing about EPP is you can easily do it while you watch a movie. 📺 Thanks for the video! ❤❤❤
I’ve never heard of the clover dome - I had to google it, very interesting! Does it just wind up the thread and stores it while the needle is still on? Thanks for connecting with me today and I hope you get some good stitchy time in this weekend :)
@@FibersandFlossCanada Yes they wind around, and I have never had a threaded needle tangle on me. I thread all my needles at once and load them from slots 1-10 and then use them from slots 10-1 . So, when you use up the thread on a needle while sewing, all you have to do it pull a new threaded needle off the holder and keep on stitching. It works well for me.
I love the little case! I've been looking at these on Amazon and have yet to take the plunge. I'd absolutely love to see a video on your sewing table, it would be really inspiring :)
Thank you for sharing your thoughts :) I encourage you to make a case, it was easier than I anticipated and I was sad when it was done - I want to make more! Lol
@@FibersandFlossCanada It's like project bags - you can never have too many!!!
I have been catching up on my Floss Tube, and just finished yours. Thanks for explaining Reconciliation day, I didn't know about it, not being Canadian. I will miss meeting you at Stitch North, I was looking forward to chatting with you. Hope the family issues resolve, in both of your families
Thanks for tuning back in. I would have loved to have met with you - next time for sure! Happy stitching and have a great time at stitch North!
Cohana haul was phenomenal. The treasure at the end had me going “ohhh. Ahhhh”. Lol. Going to have to create a Christmas list this week. I loved loved Braiding Sweetgrass. Read it a few years ago. The medicinal usage of cat tails really stuck with me. Growing up my mom used to pick cat tails late summer to put in a vase. It was something I would always see growing in ponds and ditches. The author, Robin Wall Kimmerer has a new book coming out in November. “The Serviceberry: Abundance and Reciprocity in the Natural World “. And of course I have pre-ordered it. 😊
Thanks for tuning in and the tip re Robins new book - I’m off to preorder it too!
Good to have you back, and you had something for everyone in this jam-packed flosstube! I own the audiobook of Braiding Sweetgrass, but haven't gotten to it yet so I can't add anything to your assessment. But, for US Audible Plus members, it's currently available to download for free if anyone's interested. (Sorry, but I don't know if the offer is valid elsewhere.) The Cohana scissors are swoon-worthy and I'd love to own a pair (or two), but the angel on my shoulder has so far been more persuasive than the devil. (Apparently I'm just fine with buying a gazillion audiobooks I don't have time to listen to. Go figure.)
Thank you, it’s good to be back! Thank you for the bit about Braiding sweetgrass in the USA, I will add it to the description. As for the scissors, they make great stocking stuffers…. Just saying 😉
❤❤❤
Love your progress on your wips. That's too bad you guys had to cancel StitchNorth. Take care and happy stitching!
Thank you so much :) Yes we are disappointed but we will go to one in the future, just not this month. Happy stitching 🍂🪡🧵🍁
Hi from North Georgia. Your mermaid’s face will be beautiful when you do the backstitch, imo. That sampler you are stitching on 56 is amazing. I have the red Cohana scissors. Love them. I’ve read the Potato Peel Society book and seen the movie. I’ve also been to Guernsey twice on two different British Isles cruises. Having read the book before going made me appreciate what the people there endured.
Thank you for all the kind comments 😊 I’m sure Guernsey was lovely and like you said, having read the book prior to visiting definite gives a deeper appreciation for the land and its people 🤍
Such a lovely video! You've made amazing progress on all your projects and I'm so grateful for the beautiful stitches you've added to mine!
My pleasure :) I’ve really enjoyed being able to stitch on it in the evening when the lighting makes the 40 or 56 ct tough
Great video Arica, loved all your projects! I agree that the Canada swaps was so much fun and I'd love to do it again. I'm sorry to hear that you and Samantha had to cancel the retreat trip though ❤
Yes we are so disappointed but we will attend one soon! Thanks so much for your comments and I look forward to stitching with you next month :)
I’m thrilled that you are planning to start Earthdancer. Looking forward to seeing your progress on it. It was my pleasure to send it to you! What a wonderful way to mark Peace and Reconciliation Day.
Thank you so very much for this piece! I pulled it out tonight and I think it will be a great piece to thoughtfully meander my way through ❤️
Jumped on comments specifically to share my experience with Braiding Sweetgrass. Our local Audubon Director read the book and bought it for all of his staff and then contacted Robin to see if she would be interested in coming here (Falmouth, Maine) to speak. The response was so overwhelming that it had to be moved to the local high school auditorium. She was WONDERFUL to listen to while she shared her life stories and well as a slide show. She signed my copy of Braiding Sweetgrass and also, Gathering Moss (also recommend). I love the piece you are planning to stitch. Here in the US, Columbus Day is now also Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Thank you for sharing Canada’s tribute as well.
This is so amazing!! Do you know I have quite a few Audubon prints in our home! I think Robins teachings are so important and love how your director felt so passionate in sharing these teachings, and to have met her - WOW!!! Thank you for sharing this with me ❤️
Great Sampler September Plans 😊 Cohana items can be found online at Out of Hand Quilting in Calgary! I literally was just there yesterday( my husband had a Dr appt in the city) I was picking up Cosmo Floss & saw the various items they had by the till. I had no idea what I was looking at till seeing your episode today 😅
Really??? Do they have the glass pincushion by chance??? Thanks for tuning in and now you may find yourself back in the shop purchasing some new Cohana haul!
@@FibersandFlossCanada Yes they do!! The blue & the yellow, you were not wrong when you said they were pricey😫
@@themirrorimagestitcher ohhhhh I want the blue one!
Eve’s body will look better once you get some back stitch in
Thank you, I agree :)
I am so looking forward to meeting you in person at Stitch North. I am friends with Karen, the Stitching Owl, and Lisa, Forest City Stitcher, as well as a fan and subscriber of the rest of your table mates.
Oh no! I just got to the end of your video where you said you will not be attending SN. Hopefully I can meet you next May at SN.
We will definitely be attending one in the future :) Sorry to be missing everyone this time around tho….
I love the book "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" -- one of my favorites. :) I cannot wait to see your EPP quilt. Have a great couple of weeks! ❤
Thank you so much! It is growing slowly - I wish there were more hours in a day!
It’s always good to see and your beautiful stitching!
Thank you!
Lovely stitching and I love the idea of stitching and being mindful. I've not read the book but I loved the film and it has Matthew Goode in it so there's a back tick from me!!! Now excuse me while I look at scissors....
What Matthew Goode was in it??? I didn’t even recognize him! Thanks for tuning in and sharing your comments :)
I am so sorry that I won’t be meeting you in October but I know it will happen sometime. Take care and thanks for the video. 🦉🧵🪡🇨🇦🍂🍁
Yes we are so sad to be missing everyone next month :( But I must say, thank you for the swap, it was so much fun!!
Great Video Arica the Cohana haul is so dreamy I look forward to stitching with you soon!
So dreamy right?! Maybe we will need to place a Xmas order 🤔 See you soon!
❤❤❤
You have such beautiful WIPs
Thank you!
❤❤❤
Another fun informative video….so enjoy watching another Canadian like me…lolol..as the other lady mentioned. Thank you for speaking of truth and reconciliation, it is part of our Canadian history. I am a proud Saskatchewan Metis ( Red River). I also just ordered the tiny cohana scissors from Calgary, I am so excited and didn’t realize all that cohana does so thanks for sharing the haul from your friend, Have an amazing week.
So nice to connect with you Cheryl! The more I read about indigenous culture the more interested I become! I think we have a lot we can learn from your culture esp how to live respectfully and in harmony with our planet 🌎 ❤️ Thank you for tuning in today!
Hi Arica, A few episodes ago that you filmed with Samantha, you mentioned a flosstuber that was compiling a list of 'how to' videos, can you remind me which flosstuber that was?
Ah yes! Ally has made an Instagram page: Flosstube Library - is that the one you are talking about?? Thanks for tuning back in!
