    Starting in the middle and then turning your work is such a great idea, I hate the working up, to think I have struggled for years, when all I had to turn it round, thank you so much for sharing this tip, it just proves you are never too old to learn

      Just make sure you only turn it upside down. If you turn your piece sideways the legs of the crosses will be different!

    As a quilter as well as cross stitcher, I use invisible polyester thread. It is easier to use than the nylon thread. I also use a permanent black marker to stain the end of the thread to make threading easier. Once I thread the needle, I cut off the blackened part of the invisible thread.
    Happy stitching. Darlene R.

    Excellent video, thank you! I finally learned why the floss my mother had collected and is now mine does not match the new skeins! Had you two never talked about that, I'd still be wondering why! Priceless information and more about other threads, etc!!!

    • @FibersandFlossCanada
      @FibersandFlossCanada  3 месяца назад

      Yes I suspect this is due to the acid free changes in the 90s but that is my assumption. I’ve never seen this written anywhere but to me it makes sense bc since 2000 there isn’t much of a change other than minimal which one assumes is due lot variance. Thanks so much for tuning in! Are you stitching anything from your mother collection?

    Thank you for your Mirabilia videos. It’s enjoyable to see how others work on their projects. I’m going to have to get those art dot containers. I have to say that I like bobbinating my dmc and having them all in a master set box. When I pull out a project to stitch, I just grab a handful of colors that I need and then put them back when I’m moving on. It’s really easy to see all the numbers that way too. I do use floss away bags for projects with fancy floss though. We all have our preferences. Thank you for taking the time to share.

As a cross stitcher who is about to begin her first Mirabilia pattern this is invaluable is giving me confidence to take on the project. Tip for floss storage/keeping track of what you have: The Stitchery Notion template by Stitchy Nati allows you to list all your DMC floss and link it to your wips. Wonderful video! So many useful tips and tricks…as well as a bit of joyful enabling! I love how positive you two are. It’s so funny to hear someone say Mirabilia is their comfort stitching. I have been stitching a JBW design 1 over 1 on linen and it is crazy how much the stitches do slip as opposed to what Arica showed to anchor where your stitch comes up when stitching over 2. Thank goodness it’s a small piece (Lina’s Pin Keep), monochromatic, etc. I truly prefer Aida or sometimes evenweave. Thanks so much ladies for sharing your time with us!

    Thank you so much for doing these videos. I’ve watched everyone. And I’ve learned a trick or two along the way. The floss I use for the Norahs and the Mira’s, I buy a box from Joannes. The inside is physically correct for the floss away bags except for the height, it is a little short. That’s not a problem the bags are gonna lean anyway then I take two lengths because I pre-cut everything. And put it on a floss ring. I have enough to do quite a bit, and when I run out, I just go to the box and refill that particular floss.

    Another great video, ladies! Quick questions about the specialty flosses: What is the difference between blending filament and
    regular Kreinick? Does blending filament need to be combined with something thus the word "blending?"

    • @HyggeStitcher
      @HyggeStitcher 3 месяца назад +2

      Hi Lisa! Blending Filament is very thin and is mostly used just like how you have described. One strand dmc and one strand BF together. Thank you so much for watching !! ❤

    Absolutely love this video. I’m still stitching my first Mira! I in hand stitch only. Question for you, I tend to 10x10 block stitch and to keep everything straight. I easily get lost. How do you stitch? Block or carry over several blocks. Another question is how is Kreinik anchored to the back? Thank you so much!

    • @FibersandFlossCanada
      @FibersandFlossCanada  3 месяца назад +3

      Great questions! For stitching Sam and I both tend to stitch the area of color not restricting ourselves to a 10x10 block. With Mira’s this often is more of a “swoop” of color. We also love to stitch darker to lighter colors. For the kreinik, we tend to slide it through a few finished stitches on the backside or sew it in with our new stitches looping over the tail on the backside to secure the tail in place. Thanks for tuning in today!

    Another wonderful video from you two! Interesting about floss changes over the years. I remember hearing that certain dyes were no longer available to use and DMC had to reformulate and used something different on their labels to let consumers know. Just wondering if you have an older Mirabilia chart, which may have been designed with the older floss, would you still use the newer floss? Just curious….

    Re stitching up or down, this is the second video that has talked about this recently - I always work left to right (for the first legs) when I’m working downward, and right to left when I’m working upwards, so their relationship to the row before remains the same - is that not what everyone does?

    • @FibersandFlossCanada
      @FibersandFlossCanada  3 месяца назад +2

      Good comment. There are so many ways to stitch! I will cover this in an upcoming tutorial. I will never forget Samantha sitting on the couch with her youngest who was learning to stitch, asked Sam for help and Sam was like… what?? You are stitching upside down! But that’s what worked for her and she continues to stitch different than Sam and I. The flow of ppls stitches can be right to left, left to right, stacking rows up or working down… then there’s where you are stitching in terms of pattern placement! So many possibilities!

    59:36 I love your videos. Always learn something new! My question is if you are stitching 2 over 2 then want to do over one on the body, do you switch to 1 over one?

      Thanks for tuning in :) I’m not sure I understand your question. You are stitching 2 over 2. But you would like to stitch 1 over 1 for the skin and are wondering if you use 1 single floss for the 1 over 1? If so yes. I am making a video next week showing how to concert skin to 1 over 1 and it may be helpful for you to watch it?

    I would like to know your thoughts on stitching a Mirabilia on 16 count Aida instead of 32 count linen. Would you not recommend the Aida for any reason?

    • @HyggeStitcher
      @HyggeStitcher 3 месяца назад +1

      Hi Denise! Many Mira stitchers use 16ct Aida. The quarter stitches are a little challenging however, with a sharp needle you can get the job done.

    Sorry, probably stupid question, but why having a master kit if you never use it? Or maybe I got it wrong? In Europe floss is so expensive that I would never think of buying again all the colors needed for a new project, I have one skein per color and that’s it

    • @FibersandFlossCanada
      @FibersandFlossCanada  3 месяца назад +2

      Good question actually. Some ppl have literally bought every color and have a full master set. Both of our sets are comprised of colors we have used over the years. I tend to buy a new skein if I don’t have a full skein for a new project. If I have 2 in storage I don’t purchase another for a new project. My concern is running out and not having a similar enough dye lot. You’d be surprised the difference in the many of the colors when you have 2 skeins the same color - about 40% of the time there is a noticeable difference with dmc. Happy stitching!

      That’s a good question, I stitch the kreinik as it comes up in the area I’m working on. Typically the only thing I leave till last is the beading.
