    We continue to celebrate #miramay this month by releasing tutorials enabling you to stitch a Mirabilia Designs cross stitch. There is a playlist for this month so if you enjoy this video please be sure to check out the other videos including how to stitch a Mirabilia Part 1 and Part 2 as well as a highly requested Beading tutorial.
    01:00 What are “2 over 2” and “1 over 1”?
    Here we will explore the traditional 2 strands of floss over 2 threads of fabric and how when you stitch with 1 stand over one thread it will create 4 tiny stitches in the space of 1 normal stitch. Although this looks like petite point it is not the same.
    06:45 A word of caution, special considerations for converting your piece from 2 over 2 to 1 over 1
    We will discuss how time consuming this option is, whether good eyesight plays a factor and what type of fabric is ideal and please be mindful of slubs in your linen.
    09:00 Other considerations before converting your piece. The stitches are much denser thus the colors are more saturated. You can lighten this by using a lighter color if floss. Wichelt linen (Permin of Copenhagen) provides better results than Zweigart and other fabrics. Regardless of your tension and stitching techniques, 1 over 1 stitching on linen is very organic in appearance and may not be for everyone especially if you are critical of your work - calling all perfectionists here!

      @@FibersandFlossCanada I given it some thought and I would like to know more about all the various floss available and best uses for them. In your opinion. The difference and pros and cons of silks, dmc, sulky, weeks dye works, etc.
      there are many options just from DMC alone, what are some examples of when to use what. I guess this would be going more into changing things up from your called for threads.
      Another topic might be on the various needle arts and the difference between them. For example, crewl, petite point, embroidery, hardanger, ribbon, needle point, etc.
      Maybe you can also do something on all the various hoops, frames and stands available out there?
      Thank you so much for all you do. ❤️

    Great tips and the backstitching tip was a lightbulb moment for me ! Couching! Who knew ? I have always done beading and backstitching last . I don’t know if thats good or not . Sometimes I get so ready to be done with a project I lose patience…anybody else feel that way? I will try doing skin 1/1 but on a project where there isn’t much lol for my first time. Another wonderful video! Thank you so much for taking the time to share your wisdom with us - I imagine so much effort goes in to these videos, but they are so appreciated. I’m doing one-over-one for the first time on one of my Miras but I decided to do tent stitch. Personally, I think it looks just as good, and possibly neater than a full cross. I also like that it takes less time than full cross one-over-one, I can still use two strands, do a loop start and I don’t have to worry about blends…just blend as usual! Although Mira May is coming to an end, I look forward to seeing your progress on your Miras in your regular Flosstubes!

    Thanks so much for your tutorial… timely for me… I’m stitching my first Mirabilia (I have done a Nora Corbett before). I have rather ambitiously decided to do 1 over 1 skin and there is quite a lot. I quickly learned that frogging 1 over 1 is an about 10 times as slow as stitching it, so be very careful of your counting 😂
    Thanks so much for the tips about back stitching lines… very helpful 😊

    • @FibersandFlossCanada
      @FibersandFlossCanada  Месяц назад +1

      Haha yes frogging takes forever!!! I will talk about this in my next video as I’ve noticed part of the arm on fairy idyllic looks darker than the rest and I think it’s bc I frogged and restricted that area with the same thread which (although I didn’t see this) must have lost some fibers along the frogging process and could be thinner now??? I don’t know, but the coverage is different for about 50 stitches and now I can’t imagine frogging that area as all the surrounding stitches are completed. Oh well, at least you know how I feel! Thanks for tuning in and good luck on your project!

    Hello Arica…..watched late last night….Wonderful tutorial. I tackled a Nora Corbett using your tutorials….and am doing all the beading now. Invisible thread too! Now that I know the tips for 1 over 1 I definitely will do thst on my second one….which just arrived from 123 with two Petal Fairy patterns! Question on backstitching, etc. my current project has wisps and tendrils (petal geranium) and beading at the end of this kreinik backstitching, Do you put the beads on first then connect them with metallic threads or backstitch the tendrils first and beading last. Some of these tendrils go through her dress, the air, etc. hard to estimate positioning without knowing where the beads go. Curious on how you approach this.

    • @FibersandFlossCanada
      @FibersandFlossCanada  Месяц назад

      I’m so happy for you! And now the petal fairy? You will love her - she is such a pleasant stitch :) as for the wisps and tendrils - I would stitch them first and add beads last taking your invisible floss and whip stitching it through the back of the kreinik leading to the bead - add the bead then whip back up the back of the tendril to the main stitched area to add other beads - does that make sense? Thanks for tuning back in again :)

    I always complete one over one doing complete stitches. I find that you need the extra floss on the back to keep the stitches from sliding under the fabric threads. I come from a needlepoint background and the rule of thumb to have as much yarn/floss on the back as you do on the front is still a part of my practice.
    I have a question on color changes in a skin conversion. Do you 'smooth' the transition like you do under the backstitch or do you work all four of the stitches in the charted color? Pros and cons?

    • @FibersandFlossCanada
      @FibersandFlossCanada  Месяц назад +1

      Yes that is a great practice to have :) as for color transitions, I don’t smooth them out, I stitch them as they are charted but I suppose you could do it either way :) thanks for tuning in!
