A classic lay worked for your parents and it’ll work for you too.
a classic lay has the exact structural integrity of my parents' love for me. I shall love my children like they're kettle-cooked, just as they'll deserve
😭😭
Straight Potato Worked for your ancestors, it will work for you too.
Yes, I know I am making a leap here since most people's ancestors probably didn't actually eat straight potatoes.

Popcorn is all bad unless it's bagged prepoped so you don't get shells in your gums.
Rate every string cheese. This is the science we need. Some are too bland, some too salty, some too mushy, some too rubbery. I need to know once and for all which is the Supreme string cheese.
As the mother of a toddler who frequently steals her daughter's string cheese, I support this idea.
Some of them have given me stomach aches and I’m not lactose intolerant. I get babybels to compensate for my fear of cheese sticks 😬

Fun Fact: 7/11 just got bought out by their Japanese headquarters. The 7-Select brand got better soon after and their focus is on more fresher foods and snacks at a lower cost margin than only carrying name brands. I have been loving the new 7-Select since the merger and I'm honesty hopeful for 7/11's rebranding into a fresher convenience store!
Japanese 7/11 stores are amazing.
I went to Thailand and there’s a 7-11 like every 100 meters down there. I wonder if their new thing about fresher food will make it there?
There used to be 7/11 stores here in South Florida. Every one I ever noticed was closed years ago, haven't seen one in a long time. (I'n not saying there definitely aren't any, I just don't know where they are and never drive past them).

Tims Cascade while being a mainly west coast brand absolutely deserves to be part of the conversation as they are pretty much just better Kettle chips
I second this
Came here for this
Having lived on both coasts for an extensive period, I feel as if I can weigh in on this. While I believe Tim's to be the superior brand, the Utz are right up there with them and a fine regional stand-in to represent their likeness. However, if we were discussing the Tim's Jalapeno, entirely different story as Tim's would sweep all other competition.
i feel like last time i had them they were way too greasy
and cape cod is so flavourful
As a native Pennsylvanian, you almost got the best chip, close. LoL. The UTZ brand “Grandma UTZ Kettle Chip” is hands down the best. The other UTZ kettle chip is different. The Grandma UTZ chips in the tan paper bags are the only ones cooked in lard still to this day. Best chip hands down. Grandma UTZ kettle chips.
As a native Pennsylvanian, I see your Grandma UTZ Kettle Chip and raise you Nibbles with Gibbles.
I bought a bag of these a week ago and they tasted like rancid oil. I’m assuming I got a bad bag but it was unpleasant
@@seanmckee5487 that’s so disappointing. I’m visiting home at the end of the month and will have to buy some to test out.
@@sierra5877 yeah I’m happy to be wrong. I think it’s likely the bag was just bad. Right now I’m blaming it on the store, I intend to get another bag from a different store to be sure about it
Middleswarth are also cooked in lard
My favorite is watching how many times he was sure of the brand but wasn't right. It just got better each time.
When he said "They taste a day old" I 100% knew cape cod
If it’s not too late grind all of the chips into an incredibly fine powder and make one HUGE chip from all of the other chips. The one chip to rule them all.

I used to run a small espresso bar and we sold Miss Vickie’s chips… which I constantly ate because of the large volume of fold-overs. Divine.

As a Louisiana native, I LOVE zapps (although I can't say I've ever had the sea salt flavor because they have so many other, much better flavors). For a sea salt chip, trader Joe's sells a ridge cut potato chips and they are exceptionally crunchy, salty, and pair so well with their caramelized onion dip 🤤
Zapps spicy cajun crawtators were sacred in our household.
i'm a foldover enjoyer too, but because the fold gives them more structural integrity for biiiiiiiig scooping dips. any chip that can hold together with a mound of dip on it is a winner in my book

Grandma Utz and Gibbles take me back
Maybe I got a bad batch, but I've had them and they were soggy and tasted like they were made in old oil.
Oh wow, I haven't had those in a while. I wonder if they're only available in the Mid-Atlantic area.
Yeah Utz are regional!
Who on Earth is NOT a fold over person? That crunch is undeniable. Sooooo satisfying and delicious.
One thing to keep in mind, sometimes big factories make different brands, they might change the potato, "batter", or other quality controls.
I love the Kettle pepperoncini chips. Also Ruffles require French onion dip.
My favorite Kettle brand chip is the Honey Dijan flavor!
I would definitely watch a Basics episode on uses for leftover potato chips.
I feel like half of the people I knew in the South had recipes for something called Tuna chip casserole which was basically canned tuna + canned cream of mushroom + crushed up potato chips, and I feel like that has a lot of ways you could spruce it up.

Call me crazy, but I like the baked ones better. Baked Ruffles sour cream & cheddar are probably my favorite chips of all time. Perfectly crispy and evenly coated with flavor. Somehow radically different than Baked Lay’s.

UTZ Dark Russets would be the walk away, drop the mic, winnner. But they weren't in the video. To anyone out there, if you see UTZ Dark Russets on the shelf, pick em up. You won't regret it. I have friends out of town that I made the mistake of bringing some for a BBQ. Now when I visit, and if I don't bring them some, they are unhappy. They actully ask where the chips are.
Nah they're gross AF 🤣 but hey, to each their own
In relation to the veggie straws tangent; the macronutrients in one serving of veggie straws is almost the exact same as one serving of potato chips
This should be extended to having the top 3 contenders, meet the top contenders from other countries.
I'm surprised that Tim's Cascade chips didn't make an appearance
I was thinking that the whole video
They couldn't do it because it would be an obvious 10 ;)
I bet Andrew would like them quite a bit as they're thiccer than most and almost too crunchy (for me at least). Nice to see Kettle up there though (outta Salem, OR). Although I wouldn't mind Tim's at Costco :)
Sadly I don't think they made the list because they are a northwest brand chip
@@Deathgodshi Kettle is out of Salem, OR
You need to get ahold of Tim’s potato chips, I think they’re fairly exclusive to the northwest but they’re the best potato chips
Same for Guy's chips from the midwest.
Tim's jalapeno chips are arguably the world's best chip
Andrew would love them.. thicc and extra crunchy!
Lays Simply Thick Cut Chips are my favorite.
We get “Kettle” (the brand, not just the type) chips in the UK too, and I have to say they’re usually my favourite kind of chips/crisps. Great to see they’re so popular on both sides of the pond and I’m not missing out on something superior.

I have toured the factory in years past it was super clean and all of the staff were very nice.
Being from what I would class a small country. Was still surprised that we had at least 10 different brands of ready salted potato chips.
But that only includes the basic.

I wonder if 7-11 just gets theirs from Kettle (brand) chips? A lot of people think Kettle chips are too thick but I'm with Babish. Thicker = better.
Possibly, but they seem to have some different ingredients, 7-11 used bell peppers while Kettle does not for their jalapeño line, if I recall correctly.
