I love watching how people stitch, how they move their hands, how they handle the needle and threads... so fun! Thank you for sharing this video and I look forward to more like it!
Thanks so much for checking out this video! Did you see the new one we posted to @hyggestitchers channel this week? If not, pop on over and check it out :)
Picked up a little girl with dragon wings (Dragon Fairy) from Abillyn Embroidery starter kit, from Amazon online. It is my very first cross stitch. I do have another dragon on the way should receive it in two weeks.
This was fun stitching with you both! It will be exciting to see your dragons progress. I wouldn't have dreamed of doing the Celestial Dragon on red, but that's very fitting and the picture was stunning. I was actually working on a piece with a tiger while watching. I quickly checked when the next Year of the Tiger would be--sadly, not until another 10 years. Thanks so much for doing this. Looking forward to the next time! ETA: I'd never heard that Zweigart fabric had a top and bottom, but did learn from my late, lamented LNS that it had a front and back. You can tell from the nail holes on the selvedge--the smooth side is the front. (I keep this in mind, but am not a stickler. Goodwill won't care which side I used. 😆) Also, I'm a pig, and I just saw that dragons are enemies of pigs! Oh, no! 🐷⚔️🐲
Haha enemies lol! I loved your comments -man’s the one about good will, haha yes it’s true ;) Now, I didn’t know there’s a front and back??!! Something more to check out for a future video! Thanks for tuning in and taking the time to comment :)
OMG YES!!! We just stumbled across this release this week! I totally would have stitched this if I knew it was an option! I’m trying to convince my daughter to stitch it for the SAL ;)
Awesome idea! I m actually starting a dragon every month this year ❤ even made a video about my fav dragon patterns recently. I will be totally joining your sal 🎉 thanks for the opportunity
I have enjoyed watching how both of you have put together this SAL, and especially enjoyed this video as a start. You have set a great example for the flosstube community. Please keep the videos coming!!
I like this format. I live 30 miles from the Alberta border an people think the same way one person even asked if we still went to school when it gets do cold.
Haha well it’s funny bc I’m Vancouver the entire surrounding area shuts down with 3 inches of snow whereas Winnipeg has never had a snow day yet live in a ton of snow! So maybe you don’t go to school in the cold?? lol ;) I’m sure Vancouverites aren’t far off from that haha!
EXCELLENT idea for videos to come. Seeing you both together, and stitching and chatting was AMAZING. Very relaxing and so good to stitch with you. I say, yes, to more of these as I think does everyone else. So well done. You two are professionals.
Got a good start on my dragon. Selected a smaller design to reflect my son's spirit. 1639 st from 8th to 10th. ( My adult son passed on the 8th 3 years ago and I use each pull of the thread to focus on his beautifully soul.
Ive enjoyed watching yall stitch. Samantha this is the first time Im actually seeing anyone stit h in hand doing the sewing method. It was very interesting. Thank you. Ive enjoyed this video. 😊
So lovely you gals did this to share your starts. I just found out I was also born in a year of the dragon, so maybe i should do more than one! Just happens too that I found Stretch and Tempest in my stash from years ago, so looking at flosses now for a kit up ! Away we go !!
Great video ladies! I’m not stitching a dragon but I loved being part of your chat! Samantha I was also told that the orange stripe on the fabric had to be on the left side, but within the last year I heard a flosstuber, possibly Jean Farish, talk about that issue. It used to be a thing but there has been a change to the fabric so apparently it doesn’t matter anymore, but it is hard to not stitch with the stripe on the left side. Arica, I knew what you were explaining about where to start your stitch but I always forgot to actually do that. Lol. Please do more videos like this!
Hi girls! I just love both of you and your content you’re stitching all of it. I will not be following along with the dragon cell, but I guarantee you, I will be watching, and I do love this format. Normally, I don’t! But you guys have nailed it you were very clear up close where you can see you and what you’re doing. Thank you so much do it again!🎉
In regards to both of your inputs about stitching … Samantha, I have not heard that before! Band on the left. Interesting. I do know (because I make a lot of 14,16 and 18ct Aida bookmarks) that there is a slight variation in measuring depending on how my Aida is laid out before I started cutting! I bet this has something to do with this 😮! wow, mind blown. And Erica … I have heard about your advice and making sure to start your cross at a particular spot depending on the lay of the fibers. So hard to explain and implement! Get that magnifier out! So happy to see you both and let’s get stitching 😊
Thanks so much for joining us today Jennifer :) I will have to look more into the salvage edge info and we can share it on the next video. Happy stitching
Ladies, I’m not stitching a dragon, but I had loads of fun stitching while watching/listening to you start your #yearofthedragonsal. I would love some dedicated stitching time with you, maybe once a month or something like that. I am retired and for the life of me I cannot figure out how you have time to stitch with working and having young kids! I am so in awe of both of your projects!
I am not very tech savvy and am having challenges with Instagram but I am participating in this SAL. I have pulled out The Castle, a piece I put on time out years ago and forgot about. It is beautiful and am looking forward to seeing it finished-Theresa’s dragons are gorgeous! Thank you for doing I will add a photo if I can figure it out. (Actually will append in another comment-so sorry for my technical incompetence). It’s on light blue 28 count using the called for threads. I love both of your pieces! Hopefully I will figure out the hash tags. Blessings to all!
I love how you have pulled out a beautiful forgotten piece! So fun :) Posting to RUclips is very limited, pictures aren’t allowed. But when posting to Instagram you can share a picture and when you do, in the comment field below you type: #yearofthedragonsal (no spaces) and it will autopopulate the hashtag options as you type it out. Select the correct hashtag and then your post will not only appear on your “feed” (your profile page) but also in the hashtag group. If you go to the search bar and type in #yearofthedragonsal then you choose the auto populated hashtag and it takes you to a page to see all posts that have ever shared on that specific hashtag on their posts :) hopefully that’s helpful.
The relevance most likely has to do with the warp and weft of the weaving and how it lays my guess is that selvage edge us how the threads are tied onto the loom.
Your guess is right but I wonder why we are told to have the salvage on the left? I need to look into this and I will share it on my next flosstube :) thanks for watching today and taking the time to share your comments. Happy stitching 🧵🪡
Stitching with you both is so fun!!! I think I understand you, Sam, when you explain your 3-10 method. Having 10 projects in each of the 3 stages of progress is a process. You are constantly moving projects along to meet the 3-10 target, but it is a fluid goal, not a rigid goal. I love the idea even though I personally work differently. Thanks for such great content from both of you!!! Your friendship is so fun!! Hugs, Valerie
Love seeing the beginnings of your stitch a long. I stitched a Teresa Wentzler when I first started, I forgot the name of it, but it was the one where the dragon is wrapped around a castle. Loved working on that! Pity I don’t still have the pattern.
@@FibersandFlossCanada thank you for the offer, i do know who has it, & of course she would give it back if I wanted to stitch it again. I’m doing Modern Folk Embroidery’s “ Here be dragons” . 🐉
Enjoyed the video! Wasn't able to start my dragon today since my son was visiting and I'm playing catch up on my 2024 Haed Sal. I did get Duality by Fire Wing Designs kitted up though.
This was great - thanks Sam and Arica! I will probably join in a little later. I have to finish Pandemic before I can start my Templar which has a dragon so maybe August.
I am happy I found my dragon pattern Little Snapdragon by Kustom Krafts, had perfect fsbric in my stash for it so l kitted up. Just not starting it quite yet. I need to catch up o my MFESAL2024.
This was great - having you together. I have a Chinese girlfriend in Toronto of more than 40 years and I will call her today. I always do on the Lunar New Year. I may give her this small dragon - I showed you Samantha at the last meeting - as a Gift. I don't know yet. We'll see if I can figure out that it is something she would like. She would probably just laugh at the idea that I am giving her a Halloween themed dragon in the Year of the Dragon. It is only about 3x3 inches and my personal time right now is so compromised that I can only do something very small like that in the hope to get it done on time.
My pattern is 'Lecture' by Katya Volkova. I tried to insert a picture but it did not work for me for whatever reason. Maybe it is too big. Looking forward to the year ahead.
Love both of your new starts. Happy stitching!
Thank you!
I love watching how people stitch, how they move their hands, how they handle the needle and threads... so fun! Thank you for sharing this video and I look forward to more like it!
Thanks so much for watching! There are so many different ways to stitch and I agree it’s interesting to see everyone’s methods. Happy stitching!
Enjoyed this segment guys! It was clear and fun to hear your friendly chit-chat and watch how you stitch. ❤
Thanks so much for checking out this video! Did you see the new one we posted to @hyggestitchers channel this week? If not, pop on over and check it out :)

Hello Erica and Samantha.....how excititng, both of you together!
I’m glad you enjoyed it :)
So excited for this SAL, even though I’m not sticking anything 😂 Would love to see regular videos of you and Sam stitching together!
Thank you for tuning in with us today:) we hope to do more videos together so hang in there and we will have something more for you. Happy stitching!

I think the red fabric will really make is look like a Chinese pattern! So excited for this SAL - thank you guys for starting this!
THANK YOU for participating! It’s all the stitcher which makes a SAL possible :)
Owl Forest embroidery has a dragon! Star Dragon!

Thanks Hanna! We are pretty excited too :) I hope you have a good time dancing!

Awww thank you so much! Community is super important to me so it makes me happy to hear this. Thanks for watching :)
I am in Ontario and usually under feet of snow but none this year and the daffodils are starting to wake up. Happy stitching ladies…thank you.
Yes the weather is getting more and more mild…. And my dad thinks climate change isn’t a thing 🙄. Anyways! Thanks for tuning in with us today!

I was born in the year of the dragon too. I am stitching Enchanted Realms SAL. The first part includes 3 dragons. I am working on my 2nd dragon.
Thanks for tuning in this evening. I hear there’s quite a few stitching with that SAL - I’m excited to see what it will look like!
Ive enjoyed watching yall stitch. Samantha this is the first time Im actually seeing anyone stit h in hand doing the sewing method. It was very interesting. Thank you. Ive enjoyed this video. 😊

Love your video! I felt like I was in the room with you both! Thanks for doing this. ❤
Oh that is awesome! That’s exactly the feeling we hope to pass on to everyone. I’m happy you felt that way :) Happy stitching 🧵🪡
This worked well I think. It was good to see you both stitch, and I'm enjoying the hashtag to see everyone's choices.
Isn’t it lovely to see all these great patterns? I’m also really enjoying it :)

That was fun! It was great watching you take your first stitches and hearing you talk to each other. A very fun video format.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I put my first stitches into "Tempest," a Teresa Wentzler freebie, while watching this. I'm excited to take part in this SAL.
That sounds perfect! Thanks so much for joining us today!
Very interesting to see your stitching methods.
Glad you enjoyed it!

Thank you so much!
I enjoyed very much stitching with you those guys, not a dragon but still 😊 Maybe you'll do that again at a point, or maybe even live? 😲😊🐉🧵🪡
