    Great video! I loved the fire screen - it reminds me so much of my grandmother's stitching! I have started watching some of the 'slow stitch' videos - some of that work is extraordinary! I think sometimes fire screens were also used from spring to fall - once the fireplace was not in use - used to cover the 'hole' of the fire place.

      It makes me sad when i think about the slower pace of life, the appreciation of the slow stitch and how nowadays so many people are totally unaware of such pleasures.

    Check out the Stitch People!!! It's a book that teaches you how to cross stitch portraits, and there are soooooo many beautiful customizations! They also have a book to teach you how to embroider an image of your own house!

    I store my silks in floss away bags. All of it ,even my spools, but especially Soie D'Alger.
    I wonder how bad you have to play thread chicken to be using the very tip of thread that you've licked?

    • @FibersandFlossCanada
      @FibersandFlossCanada  2 месяца назад +1

      Oh I am a thread chicken pro HAHA! I am famous for stitching right to the last inch of my thread (literally) haha…. But I snip off the licked portion (if I need to lick it) before I start stitching. I’m going to use my floss away bags too :) thank you for tuning in :)

    A book that might be useful in charting your own sampler is Picture it in Cross Stitch by Jo Verso. I have seen it in loads of Charity Shops here in the UK. It was printed in the late 80’s.

    So glad to see you both together! The bees are amazing - can’t wait to see the reveal of your finished projects. That chart didn’t interest me until I saw how beautiful they look when you stitched them!

    • @FibersandFlossCanada
      @FibersandFlossCanada  3 месяца назад +1

      They are actually a ton of fun and I think you should try one out. You were able to stitch the bee in about two days and then you’ve got a gorgeous little small you can do something with! It will definitely stitch up a lot faster than Elizabeth Furniss lol

    Maximum Cross Stitch has the Friendship Sampler. The large version gives you different people and motifs you can add. Sam, I love your finishing of your smalls exchange. I am thinking for finishing my small for Stitch North October in a similar fashion.

    Flush storage for the silk I cut it all to my short lengths. I take two links of each color, put them on their own individual floss tag. So I can keep that with me when I’m stitching, and I can get at the thread I need easily. Then the rest I put in plus away bags you can put them on a ring. I have a little box that they fit in. . We have to keep in mind that I am a monogamous teacher, so if I had multiple projects, I’d probably just use the floss away bags.

    • @FibersandFlossCanada
      @FibersandFlossCanada  3 месяца назад +1

      That sounds like a nice way to store the silks :) I think I remember being a monogamous stitcher? Haha! Now it’s out of control! I think I will focus on stitching what I have for 2025

    Yes indeed Arica…I had to purchase a stand for straight wound thread because my Jenome machine has the thread on the side that works perfectly for Aurafil thread but other threads have a jerky motion in the feed. You will love Joan Elliot patterns Sarah…my sister-in-laws is on her 4th lady and they are outstanding. Lots of fun ladies…get healthy. So…I have envisioned charting a willow tree by a stream and on each of the willows would be a name of each person in the family with higher darker names the older generation and working down to lighter younger generations. Sam, we need to figure out a family sampler for sure. I can’t wait to get the pictures of your swaps…they are fabulous. 🦉🧵🪡🔆🇨🇦

    Thanks for the great video! For your comment about wanting a personalized house, I wanted one too and at the beginning of the pandemic in 2020 I charted my house and stitched it up, using the basis from Tiny Modernist for the phrase. I’ll post it on Insta and tag you both if you want to see it. I am not away of any general way to do this, but it was so much fun to do.
