FLOSSTUBEVERSITY - How to Stitch Mirabilia Cross Stitches
Recently I have been building a playlist for those wanting to experience stitching a Mirabilia pattern but may have been intimidated by the process or perhaps an experienced stitcher who wants to learn some new tips and tricks. There are 2 main videos releasing May 01 and May 15 (in celebration of Miramay) which introduce the designer Nora Corbett and cover everything from how to choose your first pattern, considerations, floss organization and tips and tricks we have come across over the last 25 years. Additionally, there are a couple more video tutorials releasing this month which will teach you 1) how to bead and 2) how to convert skin to 1 over 1.

For retreats I like the community of stitchers and seeing everyone's stitching. I bring my table stand and a rechargeable light with power bank. No place to plug things in. I am an odd duck and stitch at the retreats. I love your Games

Scissor fobs and ort collectors are fantastic table gifts at retreats!!! My mom usually brings scissor fobs in a variety of colors and lets each table guest pick their favorite, and then she also makes a special one for the retreat host.
Lighting. Is. Everything. Always bring extra lighting, bc you have never know what the lighting will be like in the stitching space, or how it may change during the day. My last retreat had amazing lighting during the day, but in the evening, the sun didn't shine in our room and made things harder. I usually pack a big project, and one or two smaller projects, so that I have choices, but not an overwhelming amount.
I have three small children at home, so I go to retreats to get dedicated, uninterrupted stitchy time. I also love meeting adults, lol! My favorite retreats are ones that also include classes or a field trip to a LNS. The last retreat I did was at a beach house, and they brought a vendor to us, who set up in the dining room!
WOW a beach house retreat?! Where did you ever find the info on that! I could get used to the idea of sneaking away from the kids for some dedicated stitchy time! What’s an ORT?

Games. You are a very busy lady! I hope you enjoy your visit with your parents. I have never been to a stitching retreat, only a knitting retreat. The big thing for me was a) learning from an instructor and b) talking to other knitters, getting ideas and learning from them. I never brought stranded knitting or complicated cables because I didn’t want to have to concentrate that much. I brought simple projects so I could knit and talk. I would think that is the same at stitching retreats. Sorry I can’t help with table gifts. 💜

@@FibersandFlossCanada I started the Sleeping Princess. For some reason I'v been reluctant to work on it. I think I don't like the stiffness of the fabric, I'm using the called for 32 count Beach Walk by Wichelt Imports, maybe you have a suggestion to other softer fabrics? 🧡
@@mariannevonscheel my advise - continue on the wichelt ;) it become softer as you stitch and looks great when completed. Do you stitch in hand or on frame??

beautiful progress on your wips. I'm stitching Royal Games II atm, speaking of which - thank you for the Mira series you're doing with Samantha! This is my first Mira and your tips would have made my life easier when I first started it :) As for the retreats, I've only been to Stitch North and I bring a table stand and a light. Some people bring their master sets and floor stands, so really whatever will make you comfortable

Oh! I'm sooooo tempted by the Lola Crow deadly aquarium as well.
I don't think I'd manage to keep up with a SAL - life gets in the way - and I'd rather complete things in my own time. But if it continues to be as amazing as the parts are released - I may have to jump in later on in the year.

Another great video, Arica! I have never been to a retreat so I am looking forward to hearing about the feedback you get from your community corner questions. All of your projects are lovely but I think Fairy Idyll is my favorite in this group. I have sort of gone on a Mirabilia collection bender lately and sad that I missed that one. Would love to add GAMES to my collection too! I have the Hawk Run Hollow chart in my stash - may start that one in October. Look forward to your next video.

Haha yep and often! Actually my aunt does genealogy and has traced our family line back to Mary Queen of Scott’s who was beheaded so I thought a lot about that too right after off with her head lol ! Funny not funny lol. But that’s where my mind goes! Anywho, the pattern is beautiful! Happy stitching :)

Love your finish and your progress on your wips. I will be at the retreat Oct. 25-27 and this is my third year going. I go by myself and I can drive there (6 hours). Carolyn and the team are awesome. I normally bring easy stitching with me, because there is a lot of talking and shopping going on lol. I am not very crafty so I bring free stash. Looking forward meeting you and Samantha. Are you in BC Diane?? I asked because there’s a few of us stitches in the lower mainland that are planning on getting together and I’ve been wondering about doing something smaller. There’s a couple places in Chilliwack with larger homes and amazing set up for family reunions, etc. they would also be perfect for a smaller stitch retreat with maybe 10 to 15 people, if this is something you’re interested in can you send me an email and I can collect your info? Games, games, games. I admire that particular pattern so much, and love that it is stitched on white. Sometimes a bright white is the perfect fabric. I have a big pice of whit fabric that I would love to stitch games on!

I had the same problem with DMC white, so now I use Anchor white which has better coverage
