Great movie - can't wait for #2!

"Brutalness", is not a word. Brutality, would be the abstract noun of the adjective "Brutal", which most 7th graders could properly convert.

Loved it. It set the stage for what’s coming. Did Moby Dick get great in the first 100 pages. Be patient. And it least it wasnt stupid frat boy humor or total stupidity for brain damaged viewers

Wow! I agree with everything you said. Although I enjoyed the film, I felt like something was missing, and I couldn't quite put that feeling into words. But you nailed it!

Its seems that most people really Like it. But it has gotten terrible reviews (the ones I read were from- women, go figure) I think that news today, them pulling Horizon 2 is a mistake. I would see both for the views & him. He was- trying to tell a story of the Wests Lure & many people were involved in that, like it or not. We Rarely Ever GET a 3 hour movie for our $Money. BTW, baby to toddler, average is 2 years :)

Choppy and hard to keep up with

being a cineworld member i went to see horizon week before release date having read so many negative views. so i went to it a second time and found it very good and had no problem following the story. the apache segment attacking the encampment was the highlight of Horizon, the rest was really an introduction to the next 9 hours of the plane film. I must say that I cannot wait for part two and I recommend. to see the movie with out taking to much notice of all the reviews it sets up the reason for Costner story after killing the brother and leaving town in a hurry i recommend Horizon. lastly my opinion is that when Costner left yellowstone it made a lot of people angry as Costner was the lead in the story of yellowstone. and possibly its down fall..

A fair review. I'm going to see it anyways and trying to pay attention. I can always watch it when it comes out online and pause and Rewind and stuff like that. I will probably get its own fandom wiki page that will help explain some of it too. But I'm a huge Kevin Costner fan and I support his vision. I understand Hollyweird hates it because it doesn't have a political agenda and shows males with masculinity and doesn't show five foot one women kicking ass out of 230 lb men.

Interesting comments. The movie has tanked at the BO. It's described as an Epic picture. The film ratio is standard 1.85:1 (Flat). For it to be considered an Epic movie the ratio should have been 2.39:1 (Scope). I have been told it looks like a TV movie.

David here and I been a movie buff for over fifty years and I thought it was a very good concept movie. But the biggest problem with it was why wasn’t it filmed so it filled the screen? The whole point of it was to be seen in the theater. It was very distracting, it made it feel like it was going to be on tv very soon. It was very slow in the beginning but you knew it would be because it is one of 4 episodes. I have noticed no one had said anything about the nudity. I am not a prude, but it did not seem to fit with the rest of the movie, it made it feel too modern. Every time they showed a close-up of the hand bill. All I can think of is I want one! A miss opportunity to get back some of the money from making the movie, if they don’t sell them. It will be interesting to see what part 2 is like. I will give it 4 out of 5 popcorn boxes for the idea of it. 🍿🍿🍿🍿 See you at the movies!

This movie is a western, but does not have the “fakeness” of the old western, you know what I mean. It’s real. Like when Kevin Costner kills that mouthy bad guy, he shot him 5 times to make sure (no one shot wonder) Every thing in this film is brutal but real. That life. For that, this is a film worth its salt.

Thought your review was spot on - expected more re Costner production and grossly disappointed, largely because of the disjointedness of three, yes three, subplots. The disjointedness made following each subplot individually difficult - no sufficient explanation per subplot and the "jump" within a given subplot from one story apect to another within the individual subplot resulted in my saing, "whoa, how did we get here, where we are? What did I miss?" This is what disturbed me the most. Having a "rewind" and "review" might have been beneficial for possible clarification. Not keen on the romance scene of surviving wife with US cavalry officer so soon after the early loss of her son and husband in the opening Apace raid. Seemed terribly insensitive, unauthentic. My struggle with this chapter 1 is unlikely to be muted by furthering the story subplots in Chapter 2 when, perhaps, the three individual stories each will be carried further along with clarification. Yes, the acting, filming, scenery, etc. were excellent. Connecting individual stories within the individual subplots was lacking, leaving a void in a coherent following. Would I recommend? Yes, if only because subsequent viewers likely will have their own take on the worthiness of the production. I expected a great deal more from Kevin Costner than what I saw. The saving factor for me personally is that I paid half price for what I received? And, yes, I will plan to see Chaper 2 regardless.

Just like any series of movies, you can’t judge it in the first episode. The next one doesn’t have to identity characters. The story will be more intense and epic. I don’t think you should judge it on first episode.

VERY Disappointing! - A movie plot is the central storyline that guides an audience through the film’s events and character developments. The sequence of actions, conflicts, and resolutions creates the narrative structure and propels the story forward, ultimately delivering a cohesive and engaging cinematic experience. This film experience highly lacked engaging relatability and realty. THE GOOD: The best plots, in any movie, are driven by characters making tough decisions to achieve a goal, all while overcoming obstacle after obstacle to get there.- There were 3 different plots and some sub-plots yet each plot was limited on storyline and just thrust on the audience, without build up. The boy and his struggle with his parents killed by indians was good and believable, other outstanding moments were, Luke Wilson played a wagon train forman, was believable and relatable. The scenery of Utah and Wyoming were nice and some of the indian character performances were deep and relatable- THE BAD: It was SO staged, every time there is someone talking to another person there are 6 to 14 people just standing behind them in chorus rows just SILENTLY STANDING, waiting extras. HELLO?!! Kevin, this is the wild west, people were busy from sun up to sun down WORKING - not standing around like cardboard cut outs.-BASICALLY EVERY SCENE - except the indian attacks - was not believable. Also, the scene where the girl had to identify her dead parents from the indian attack and walks along the wagon with every dead body, boots sticking out - having BRAND NEW STUDIO boots on was ridiculous!! - Kevin, audience can SEE this, so fire the costume designer, or update them in the dailies, most people in REALITY were poor in the Wild West, and did not have brand new clothes FROM THE STUDIO!! There are 3 different plots that dont intermingle, OK, but the character development and motivation was not developed so, the empathetic relation between audience and character was lacking, making you not care for anyone or their resolutions. THE UGLY: Anyway, its just another netflix serious - NOT a Major Motion Western, like "True Grit" , but Danny Huston, must have kissed Kevins ass, when they were together on Yellowstone, because he cant act in this. Sorry folks, I wanted a good Western too but I give it a boring C+ and I watched it 3x to make sure!

Again, only “Chapter 1.” This is a Hollywood movie, or series of movies modeled after a TV show. Does the pilot leave you “wanting more?” For me - it’s a solid “yes.”

Its like multiple western movies connected in one

Just saw it today and was iffy about it. Luckily, I have the movie pass so I can watch it with my subscription. My favorite part was the battle scene in the beginning of the movie, but I got thrown off at times when switching story lines, but I love the scenery and can’t wait for chapter 2.

At 67 I have watched and loved Westerns for a long time and still very much enjoy watching the Encore channels with westerns shows and movies all the time. in the last 30 years there have been only a few Westerns made, but I loved watching every one of them. I have to say I could barely wait until this movie opened. With tickets bought in advance on opening day I was expecting a movie better than Open Range, Django, The Hateful Eight, Magnificent seven with Denzel Washington, or even Unforgiven with clint. This movie Damn sure ain't no Lonesome Dove 4 part movie, I wanted to love this movie so much, but I think this movie SUCKED!! on a scale from 1-10 I'd give it 3 tops! 60 minutes passed before you even seen Costner and it just reminded me of watching Days of our Lives soap opera with so many thing jumping around. I also believe the same movie watchers giving this movie a good review, believe that Joe Biden is of sound mind and should keep running because he is making life better for people..

Must be hard for professional critics to judge it if they have never seen a western before. Hence the bad reviews.

If you want chaos with zero direction, no goals, and too many storylines with no end goal, this movie is for you. Amazing set and acting, but extremely hard to follow as there is nothing to follow

But according to how incredibly awesome this was, it should surpasss Titanic by next week, riiigggt?

I forgot this is how the theater episodes ended. Finally got to see this last night and I can’t imagine walking out of the theater after that. I knew something dramatic was coming since there was a viewer discretion warning at the beginning but I was still shocked who it happened to.

This was seriously a huge let down! Flat characters and I wont be going to see the other films, 3 hours or blah! Story is going nowhere! Hugely ambitious of Keven Costner but feel its very weak in its story telling! It feels like an advertisement with epic screen shots, but the story was very flat overall!

I really enjoyed it. Love Westerns and loved this one. The scenery was stunning . The cast was incredible. Excited for 2 & 3. Thank you Kevin Costner...finally story worth watching!

Many, Many more White people in America are related to convicts than in Australia. America today can trace their ancestors back to convicts or slave owners, then to Australia. Australia also Never had African black slavery, Wars of Independence, Civil Wars, Wars against the French and British. And Wars against Canada, the Spanish/Mexicans, Indigenous Americans, Native American tribes, Native Hawaiians, and other Pacific Islanders, etc. The only reason Australia was settled in 1788 was that the 1776 War of Independence and the British could no longer ship out the "Convicts" which itself was a cruel and horrible thing to do to your citizens. Plus: Louisiana, New Orleans can be traced back...to a pudgy kid by the name of King Louis XV. King Louis XV, owned all of Louisiana .... and tried desperately to get his fellow Frenchman to cross the ocean and visit. But it wasn't happening. It's great to own a gun in America. So, in fact: The US was founded with convicts from both France and Britain, yet Americans and Hollywood referred to Australia as a penal colony. It only shows the level of sanity it takes to be an American. The Dutch Empire and Spaniards also dispatched psychopaths and convicts to the Americas. It's no surprise the USA was founded on treason/betrayal and theft against the British. "The British and the Irish fought each other's families and then considered themselves Americans." Is anyone surprised that an Australian citizen, Julian Assange, was charged with espionage by the Americans?🤣🤣 Those who don’t study history are doomed to repeat it. Three hours felt like five. Way too many characters with names I couldn't remember. It needed to be a miniseries.

My husband and I loved this movie. It was 3 hrs long but we didn’t notice, we were totally captivated.

i saw it yesterday and loved it a stunning film showing the brutal wild west

It was a great movie, even if it was long. Some of the audio was difficult to understand, but the scenery was beautiful. The production was well done, and the violence was true to history. I hope the characters are tied together in the next episode....didn't care for the jumping around but we will definitely tune in for the next chapter.

The only thing you need to know is, Get yourself to the Cinema and see Horizon for yourself, be your own Critic. It deserves to be seen on the Gig Screen.

Fell asleep 3 threes times. Won't be seeing chapter 2 and wasting anymore of my time with it

Technology phone addicts aren’t able to watch and sit down in a disciplined time to be able to appreciate this piece of art .That’s the main problem. Kevin Costner , the genius, has brought us an incredible beautiful but horrific way of life during those times . Let’s wait until we see chapter 2 before we talk the much about how the movie .
