  • A story from the week on the Sunday Rant. Is it ever ok to sleep during work and has my experience ever happened to you. At a shipper I encounter someone sleeping while i am trying to work. Most people can't find success because it shows up disguised as work. The end result is I got my trailer while upsetting someone. That is a normal day for me.

'O Great One, why did you think you had to specify that she is of the Gen. Z generation? We already knew that when you said she was sleeping!! What really kills me is pulling into a truck stop with 15 trucks, parked in front and by the scales and all over the place, then I drive by them and find
50 spots in the parking lot!!!😳😖

I hate when that happens 😂 but I'd still take a sleeper over having nobody around at all 😊
I've had to wake up regular security guards before too. Lol.

For what my dad used to tell me when I was young, sleeping on the job. Wake up and get to work, and if I was in break, go to the back because it looks bad around customers

Put a. Sign on the window stating you're on break. Take a break in the breakroom

I showed up at a shipper last week at about 0100 and the gate guard was taller laying down than standing up. Asked me if the trailer was clean and if he could trust me that it was because he was too large to walk back and check himself.

Armada in Cartersville, GA will put a sign up on the window on break even though they’re sitting there. Then if it’s close to shift change, you’ll be sitting there an extra half hour waiting.. Would be easier to go in and load or unload my own trailer. Something I used to do until they decided it was unsafe ? Or some kind of extortion racket like they have now for unloading.

That's just an excuse so they can charge lumper fees and also reduce liability from idiot drivers that don't know what they're doing. 😆

I'm with you on that one. Some of these drivers don't look too competent plus need proper footwear working on the dock😂 I know my paycheck unloading all my freight back in the 90s was more than my driving paycheck.

Many companies are requiring staff to leave their work space and log the time when taking a break. Drivers rarely get that luxury.

    • @chris76-01
      @chris76-01 3 месяца назад +1

Yes, we have to use our break time to get caught up on other work so we have time to finish working before we run out of work time. 😊

you never went in the back? You have been to the manhole right? At least a person was there. Too many times have had to go look for a person. I just cannot imagine sleeping during work time, break or not.

We recently changed our clock in and out to. ADP. Along with it, we now get deked for $12.50 per day. That’s a $62.50 pay cut per week! For the alleged “Break”. Why do we keep getting sent out, several loads per day, without being in the yard to take the “mandatory” Break? If I have a container (trailer), then I’m under dispatch, right. And if I’m under dispatch, then I’m at work, right? So I get screwed when a break happens during pretty much any loading or delivery. No raise in three years either. I’ve called the Teamsters, but most our mostly Mexico Mexicans ( as opposed to American Mexicans) are scared shitless of losing their jobs. And they’re right, but sometimes you have to take a risk. We must have 80% agreement for National Teamsters to approve our bid for representation

I think the Z in Gen Z must stand for Zero, as in zero ambition, or zero motivation. Just like my work partner, she likes to play with her little cell phone and listen to her crappy music during work. I weep for the future.

At our company where I work, we are always firing the youngsters all the time, they just cannot keep working, each time you leave them they stop working.
One day I was using the forklift and the Gen z Boy working for us stopped working, I asked him why you stopped, he said because I'm on the forklift and that he is not working till I get back to work, WHAT....
I am working I'm on the forklift moving pallets, you need to keep working, the young Boy said nope, till you get off the forklift and get back working then I'll start working!
I had him fired that same hour after video tapping him with his full excuses.
The Big boss seen the video and what I was doing, and the little turd was not working and refused to get back working was later fired hours later, his union has not fully kicked in yet because he was only one week into this great paying career at Penske.
I'm A CDL Driver also some warehouse work too, but dealing with some in the warehouse is stressful, and many do not last long here at Penske most all of them are young adults 19 years to about 24 years old.
The older folks here at Panske are the ones keeping the lights on and the service getting through to all the OTR Drivers, Mechanics and the Warehouse Supply receivers.
The young folks are just in the damn way as I see it.
