CRST Loses Again | Sunday Rant | Trucking Answers

  • This is a happy Sunday Rant. CRST has lost another court case. Being in the sleeper beyond normal sleep time could be work time and may need to be compensated. Drivers do not value their time enough. This case is a first and goes along with what I have always said. All time at work or because of work should be paid. That sounds includes time in the sleeper. You are only sleeping 1000 miles away from home because of your job.

Yeah, when I was at CRST 15 years ago, they told us when you're in the major city your co-driver must be in the passenger seat to help the driver spotting blind spots, when the drivers backing into a spot or a dock, you must be outside helping them guiding him in . All unpaid time 😔

Similar subject is companies expect to you log off duty when fueling or bumping docks. Basically anything work related so that needs to stop along with asking drivers to do split sleeper birth. My current manager told no way I should run out of hours on a current load because I need to be off duty when the truck is not moving. Like you mentioned before hourly pay is the correct way to pay us.

Just divide your weekly pay by the hours you spent in the truck.
If you spent 70 hours in the truck and make $1500 a week, 1500/70= $21.43hr
Drivers should push for more pay instead crying about how they getting paid.
Now the company going to lower mileage pay to make up for sleeper pay and you end up with the same check.
Companies know all the game that’s why governed truck pays more and non governed truck pays less.

I just saw an add on indeed advertising $30 an hour for 7 hours a day, home daily. Then when you read the add its 13.5 hours from the time you clock in till the time you clock out 7 hours driving with the rest of the time sitting at the shipper/receiver. Some of these job adds make me want to pull my hair out. I think drivers should make a point at least once a week to call a company and tell them why you want come work for them if they all get bombarded with phone calls telling them we are not falling for it they will have to report back why out of all these calls no one would hire on. I'm willing to work but im not driving a truck for less than what factory jobs are paying.
