  • The Sunday Rant is here and I talk about what the ATA recently said. Chris Spear, the head of the American Trucking Association said that by paying drivers overtime they would make less money. What? This came out as there is a bill that would mandate OT for truck drivers. I want to inform you of the salary of Chris Spear. 2.7 million dollars a year. $52000 a week. $1300 an hour. That guy thinks you shouldn't get overtime. If drivers really made less then ATA companies would already pay it. Don't listen to a guy making $1300 an hour telling you that you don't need overtime.

    These two bills are going no where. They introduce bills like this late in the session to make constituents feel good. There are 14 session days left in House and 18 session left in the Senate. Any bills not passed by both houses by end of session die. These bills will never see a vote on the floor. It’s just feel good for suckers.

    The next fight will be over what counts as an on duty hour. They will try to pay only for driving time instead of all on duty time. It won't work but they'll try anyway because drivers will now start logging all the time they spend sitting in a dock instead of logging off duty.

    • @midlifetrucker-thombell4722

      What they’ll do is eliminate company drivers doing OTR. They’ll go to home daily relay runs and more hub to hub. We all know how home daily pays. The stuff that has to be OTR? Independent Contractors. They don’t get overtime. The carriers are going to double trucker pay. It’s not going to happen. This would make rail more appealing.

    The cost added on to a load of cereal or macaroni and cheese per. Box to compensate drivers properly is nothing compared to inflation and the profiteering of these companies. This should have been done years ago. I have always referred to working more for less money as Truckers math. If you are working in this industry and don’t demand your time is highly valuable no one else is going to! Time is a finite precious commodity I will not work and support someone else’s lifestyle for free.

  • @patrickdrier4707
    @patrickdrier4707 6 месяцев назад

    Problem is party no one wants to do the math. Say a fair hourly rate is $30 an hour. Driver has to be with the truck and trailer at all times. That’s $720 a day. Run if all goes well will take 24 hours factoring in rest time while still babysitting load.$1440 to driver. If you know how much the truck cost to run pre mile and how much profit you want on back end you can use simple math to say if we ship this load you have to pay this amount. The hourly thing can be done if no one takes the brake even or slight lose rates that are offered
