    The Canon EOS M5 Mirrorless Camera is the first mirrorless camera from Canon that actually has a chance. The design, the functionality and the fact it has the same sensor as the Canon EOS 80D makes it a worthy option for beginners and some pros. Canon VS Sony you decide. Which digital is best for you.

      How do you think this will compare to a Sony a6500. I'm about to buy my first interchangeable lens camera and would like to adapt old glass to it also like FD lenses for cheap fun. Is there focus peeking for manual use on the Canon.

    • @jamesdeak630
      @jamesdeak630 7 лет назад +1

      Chris Barr get the 6500, Sony is king of mirrorless

    • @dcameron7736
      @dcameron7736 7 лет назад

      Chris Barr I've used both of Sony a6000 and a 6500. they are way more versatile better pictures the lenses do cost a little more but they are amazing. it may take you a little while to get used to all the menu options. you can also set up 12 most used function. that way you don't have to go back in a menus.

    • @froknowsphoto
      @froknowsphoto  7 лет назад

      not sure just yet but the Sony is $400 more.

    • @froknowsphoto

      If you already have Canon glass, the adapter is much better then anything you will find on the Sony side. But people do love their sonys. I personally love the dual pixel AF and have Canon glass already.

    Jared, as always, you provided an excellent camera review with extreme RAW value-added. You not only demonstrated how the camera functions "out of the lab," but you gave us tutorials on composition, camera handling, methods and techniques, lens selection, location information, and personal engagement with the people you're photographing. Comprehensive, intelligent, and professionally done with great audio and video!

      thank you for getting it. This is the goal of the Real World Review. Actually use a camera and not take snap shots or just stand behind a desk and spit specs off.
      We do those spec videos yes, but we actually shoot and deliver quality images.

    Best review of the M5 on RUclips, without a doubt! Great job, Jared!
    I was pretty much decided on getting this camera until you mentioned that it doesn't shoot in All-I like the 80D. I completely forgot about that! Thanks for mentioning it! Now, like you said in the video, in All-I, the camera shoots at a much higher bit rate than in IPB (90mpbs vs. 35mbps, if I am not mistaken), but how much of a difference does this make in image quality? Would you say that it is an essential feature for professional video work? I can't seem to find good videos on this subject... Thanks in advance!

  • @jimskills1

    I've been trying to decide between the M50 and the 250D for the last 2 months and then come across this video and just thrown those two choices out. Your review has made the most sense so far and i especially like your bit about the flip screen. In all the other video reviews, none of them mention that although the screen flips downwards, none of them mention you can tilt it to a angle you can view looking down to it. Thank you so much to clearing this up. I've now added this camera to my shopping cart and most likely going to pick it up as well as that 11-22mm Lens.

    Two years later I decided to purchase the M5. This is the second purchase I have made specifically because of Jared's 'Real World Review'. The other was the Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary (which I love BTW) but I digress.
    I have always shot with crop sensors due to budgetary constraints but remained because I like the results I can achieve--I do not feel the necessity to upgrade to full frame (yet).
    One thing I enjoy most is travel photography, and my M3 was used more than my DSLRs simply due to the size/convenience. My M3 has now (or had) become my main travel camera. It's great despite the focus sometimes feeling slightly sluggish under difficult shooting conditions (capturing images underwater using a waterproof housing for example).
    I picked up the M5 due to the increased focusing speed and this camera blows away the M3, especially when adapting EF glass.
    Basically this post is meant more as an acknowledgement for all you teach us. Thank you.

    Hey Jared - Awesome review and I've had my M5 now for about 10-15 days and it's taking mea while to get used to the size but it's an awesome camera. I've still got my 7D and 50D but using my L glass on this body has produced some pin sharp images and I'm really enjoying it. I got the 15-45 lens with it and it's not bad for when I want to go super light weight. Great review.

    Great review. Watched from start to finish. I got an 80D (upgraded from 20D) a few months before everyone started raving about the M5. I wish I got this instead as I love the compactness of mirrorless. 80D's size is a beast and I can only take that on more formal/planned shooting outings. I don't regret it as much as the feature that I would die for is a totally silent electronic shutter that the M5 doesn't have. Another thing worth noting is that M6 has already been spotted in the wild. Canon is releasing these like hotcakes.

    I like Jared's style of reviewing cameras, he points out the good and the bad without bashing a camera to a pulp just because is not the camera would choose for him self. Actually he focus on what makes the camera special to work with. Exploiting the positive functions of a camera is what really matters.

      Thanks! This is actually my second M5. I recently lost my previous M5 and lens at the airport after only having it for about 1 1/2 weeks. :-( :-( :-( This time I decided to go with 18-150mm and the 22mm lens. On the fence about the 11-22mm, but I think I'm going to put that money towards a 16-35L or 17-40L for my 6D. I travel a lot so I love the versatility and great image quality in such a small package. I also have the lens adapter. Thanks again!

    Love your reviews, they are very detailed, entertaining and comprehensive. I have owned Pentax, Nikon, Fuji and other models of Canon and this Canon EOS M5 is my absolute favorite from all the gear I've ever owned. My only 2 wishes would be that it was weather sealed and that the viewfinder and LCD colours/exposure matched.
    About using RAW. The Canon software for the desktop PC does retain the JPEG style even if you don't capture the JPEG in camera. You can do a direct convert from RAW to JPEG and get exactly what you took which is fantastic as I love the JPEG colours and tones out of this camera.
