    I thank very much for your reviews. My question is how come machines used to last for over 100 years. I have a Destiny and is a 10 years old machine. Its an old machine. And people say that there are no more parts available. So I think that is tottaly unfair. Just unethical.

    • @ThimbleBook

      It's ideal to have a machine that lasts a lifetime because it saves the environment and our wallets. But, its not good for companies (Hence why 90% of the vintage machine companies are out of business).

    I own a Babylock Solaris Vision along with several other modern and vintage machines. I traded my Destiny for the Solaris and will stop there. The Solaris is wonderful…but it is too heavy to make it a classroom/retreat option. It also did not fit in my Koala Studio. Luckily I have an Aria that is a perfect fit. My Dealer has tried to get me to upgrade, but I am quite content with my current sewing machine fleet. Thank you for such a thorough review.

    I doubt Brother makes 1,000 of the Aveneer. Way too expensive. I will keep my Stellaire XJ2. At least I got a good price on the Stellaire. Just not worth the $$. I kept getting emails from Brother on the Aveneer. They finally stopped sending the emails. If anything I hope this pushes down the price for all the other Brother sewing machines.

    Too big not only will you need a big table you will need a big room so your table can be way out from the wall when that big embroidery hoop is on to keep from hitting the wall. The weight is just too much for most gals. Price is way too much. And I don’t like designs as big as that biggest hoop. Thinks they are being cheap in only giving 4 hoops with that price machine.NOT a machine I would even consider.

    Won't be buying. Too expensive and not a nice looking machine. I have a babylock ellisimo and Bernina 830LE and between them both I have what I want. These machines are too heavy to take anywhere so you would still need another to take to classes or even take to the cottage.

    Thank you for the review. For me the major sticking point is that you are only gaining 1 inch of extra width. Had Brother extended the width by more then it may have been worth considering. 12 inches should have been the minimum. Also I would expect the design of the largest hoop and its long length v. short width will allow for fabric slippage despite pinning. It is certainly the case with the Luminaire largest hoop. Most of the other new features and not useful enough to warrant such a high price tag. Not into Disney (most of them are too small to do anything with).

    • @ThimbleBook

      It will definitely be a challenge to keep fabric properly hooped in that largest hoop. My largest hoop is 8x12 and works for all I want to do. I can easily see it taking an hour to prepare a hoop and pin, tape, do all you would need to do to keep the project in place.

    I'm just now seeing this review, and I think that it's spot-on. I think you're right in your assessment of who Berninas' target customer is. Older with disposable income. And not just any sewist, but a quilter. That's key, because quilters spend the most money of any consumers in the home sewing industry. So of course they'd build a machine that caters to them. I've heard that these machines are really popular with that demographic. Good for Bernina. Now as to the other thing that you stated about this machine that I find really accurate, and seeing how different manufacturers are debuting new TOL machines, I think what you said applies across the board: "A lot of people get caught up in the features of a new machine, and don't really take the time to consider if the machine is actually for them." Amen to that. When this machine made it's debut, I'll admit that I was drooling. That is, until I did a run-down of how much the payments per month would be, and for how many years until it would officially be mine. And not mine and the banks'. That plus the fact that although it has all kinds of neat stuff in it, what gave me the most pause...well the price did that, but still...was the fact that I'm not a quilter. I'm a garment sewist. Really, all I need are two stitches : straight and zig-zag. All those thousands of other things that the machine can do are mind and pocketbook blowing, but honestly? I wouldn't be using them much, if at all. I've longed for a Bernina for decades, and quite a few years ago now, got one (Artista 730e) from a Craigslist seller. She sold it to me for a song. Four hundred dollars, to be exact, and it was the best money I've spent on sewing products, hands down. I'm in the market for another (the 730 has issues) USED machine. For those that want all the bells and whistles, I think it's great. For others, I'd encourage (whether this or any TOL model) to really think about what one needs out of a machine, the cost and go from there. '

    • @ThimbleBook
      @ThimbleBook 23 часа назад

      I really wish there was a nicer machine for us garment makers with great lighting, a narrow free arm, metal construction, and few stitches on it. Thanks for watching.

    • @kaygee8343
      @kaygee8343 3 часа назад

      @@ThimbleBook You probably are describing a Juki industrial. Except for the narrow free arm, that is. Which brings me to my point. I figured that if I were to purchase a new machine, it would be an industrial. I've become spoiled by having the luxury of computer technology stuffed in a sewing machine and don't want to do without it. Plus a zig-zag stitch for making buttonholes. Went looking for such an industrial, and found that there isn't one (to my knowledge) that has everything I'd want. A compromise would be that I'd have to go for a machine that isn't computerized (they exist, but the computer is for mass production applications) and only does a straight-stitch. So. Back to the used Bernina search for me. Probably just as well. The industrials need a dedicated table base and might need a separate motor, depending.

    How about oiling it? Does it even have oiling points? I suppose when you have a 25K sewing machine you hire someone to service it once a year. 150 year old sewing machines still run today because people oiled them every time they used them

    • @SewingandCaring
      @SewingandCaring День назад

      You don't oil this, it need to go back to the dealer once a year. Btw you are wrong about 150 year old sewing machines needing oiling every time they used them to keep them alive, they are better than that :) I've just serviced a 111 year old singer that was completely seized and all I needed to do was unscrew three screws, clean it with a rag soaked in machine oil give it a drink, then tip it to do the undercarriage as well. These machines cost 6 months wages for the average women when new and the metal they used (up until the 201k) was of such high quality that the gears and feed dogs are still sharp to this day. Downside is that the machine in front of me on the work bench comes in at 36lb and only does the one stitch with what I'd guess is a maximum of 4 stitch length.

    • @ThimbleBook
      @ThimbleBook 23 часа назад

      The books recommend oiling after each use. But, my great grandmothers red eye sat in storage 40 years without an oil and sprang back into action without a problem. You are correct! Those machines were made to take a beating. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.

      @@SewingandCaring Yeah, the cost in 1900 was what I was thinking about, actually. Very, very expensive and that's why people took care of them. Of all my machines, the 3 in my sewing space are a 201-2, 15-91 and an 80's vintage Kenmore in case I need those exotic zig-zag stitches. :)

    My Skyline S9 is a 9mm machine, and a 10th of the price. Yes, my hoop is only 6x10, but it was 90% cheaper! Also, how does a projected buttonhole help with vertical spacing if the screen is 6x8” ( I think you said)? You can’t project all the buttonholes all the way down the shirt at once to check spacing.

    This is another fantastic video from you!!!! And I agree with you that paying 25K for a Single-needle Home Embroidery/Quilting/Sewing Combo machine is too much. And I don't do Disney Designs at all, and I am an Embroiderer, not a Sewist or a Quilter. I and have done designs that required 29 different colors, and I haven't made them in a single needle machine, I had used TWO 15-Needle embroidery machines that I own, one with the first 15 colors, and then switch the hoop to the second 15-needle machine that had the second half of the design. And I paid just 11K for both machines from NEW OLD STOCK!!! And one of them has a special adapter to add Sequins, Yarn, Beads or Ribbons!!! I also have the PFAFF ICON 2 that I got DEMO for 8100.00 USD as a helper/supplement for designs that only use 1-4 colors, and it also has WiFi and is connected to mySewNet by subscription. I had wished that all these single-needle machines could have some kind of adapter to use the Coloreel thread dying/coloring system coz in that fashion you can enter ANY COLOR into the design, and that system will dye the thread in the proper color and to be applied to the machine, and that system is 33K per machine, but you don't have to continuously buy thread spools of different colors, just one white 5000m 40wt thread spool that will be used to be dyed by the system. Plus, the Coloreel comes with its own software for you to do whatever design you want and with 1000+ colors!!!! So for me the perfect embroidery system would be one of my 15-needle machines using Coloreel, or something like that, but at 261 pounds is too heavy, but will do EVERYTHING- caps, flat embroidery, 100+ color designs, multiple size hoops, either regular or magnetic hoops, tubular embroidery, Puff embroidery, embossed embroidery, Beads, sequins, yarn, ribbons, etc. But that is too expensive and heavy still, and is just my dream as a retiree......

Then in 2000’s left to my husband another singer rocketeer, from his mom. I quilt, and have used the old singers and my Juki, Haruka straight stitch only .

      Awesome :-) Yes, those Singer vintage machines work really well. Only reason I'd upgrade to the Juki would be for lighting and a little more speed.

    How do I get the stitch length to change? I’ve moved the dial, but stitch stays tiny

      It sounds like you have a problem with your machine. There are a few different issues that could result in the stitch length not changing. The most common issue is the feed dogs. Is the bobbin case area and the space underneath your feed dogs free of lint? Also, are your feed dogs 1mm above the needle plate. If not you'll need to make some adjustments or take it in for service.

      @@ThimbleBook thank you for the quick reply. I’ll check those. I just thought I was missing something cause I didn’t even realize the inside of the dial pushed in, which I still can’t figure out why but it doesn’t seem to affect the length.

    Thanks for this video. I’ve used a Bernina machine for many years, but haven’t tried embroidery. This looks like a good one for a beginner! I loved this video. Thank you.

    You don’t use grease on those buttons you use machine oil and getting it on plastic doesn’t hurt a thing

    The plastic gear you spoke of in the Singer 401a is called Textolite. Textolite is a material developed General Electric. It consists of a fiber wound gear infused with bakelite. The chances of it failing is less than bending the needle bar or destroying the hook assembly. I have never known of or spoken to another repair person who has seen this gear fail.

      They really do last a long time because I've never seen one broken either.

    Q: is there any way to still buy a new machine today AND buypass the weak spots (motherboard)? i.e. will we be able to repair our own motherboards for example? So well made and interesting researched video I couldn't have said it better. I am sad for all the newcomer sewing peeps that are lured into buying expensive new machines with short lives.

    While many manufacturers are now offering a high speed straight stitch machine, a simplified high speed universal straight stitch/ zig zag with a 2.5 amp motor is what many of us who sew professionally would love for travel. I used to costume for shows and traveled a lot on tours. A machine that does the aforementioned would set itself apart from those who do professional garment making .

    Thank you for this very well done video! I am considering this machine when my Cricut Maker dies. I have had a Silhouette 4 Pro and currently also own a Brother Scan and Cut that I am about to throw out a window, so I am researching options for the future. I make doll clothes and appreciate the cutting machines for their accuracy.
