Are you skeptical of using public domain images for embroidery? Or, are you feeling inspired?

Yes, I am a little skeptical; however, if I did use someone else’s idea that had entered public domain, I would try to be respectful with it’s use.

      I agree. Thanks for watching.

That was interesting. I think what you concluded was you can use the Steamboat Mickey version anyway you want to without any fears? Hence slasher movies. This was all news to me so thanks. The Winnie the Pooh on home embroidery would be a win. Or is that an older version too? Definitely not interested in the slasher remakes.

Just read it’s only the line art drawings from the Pooh books. Sorry I should listen more carefully.

Steamboat Mickey can be used so long as you stay within the guidelines discussed in the video. As far as I know, the public domain for Winnie is A.A. Milne’s original Winnie-the Pooh stories. They too have to fall within the guidelines. Thanks for watching.

Am I skeptical of using public domain images for embroidery? No. That's because I wouldn't use them to sell items for business purposes. I don't blame Disney for being extremely protective of its brand and roster of images that it has cultivated over the years. "Steamboat Willie" is a particular iteration of the "Mickey Mouse" imagery. It's not splitting hairs to signify that "Steamboat Willie" is the exact image that has run out of its' copyright protection. Also, if, say a small embroidery business uses Steamboat Willie in such a way that looks like Disney gave permission when it didn't, then the simple thing is to just not use the design. Now, if I'm using Steamboat Willie and Minnie for personal use, not receiving any monetary compensation for the work, then I don't see a problem with that. But not to sell for profit. Thanks for taking the time to do these videos. They are very well researched and thought-provoking. Happy New Year.

Yes, it would be hard to embroider Steam Boat Willie without it looking like the design came from Disney. But, if you turned Steam Boat Willie into a killer I don't think people would ask questions. LOL

@@ThimbleBook Well, I couldn't imagine Willie doing anything like that! I don't think Disney would mind if one used him for personal garments like childrens' clothes. But not to sell. And that Winnie the Pooh slasher movie was the first I'd heard of that. Kind of sad that people would take the time and spend the money on something like that.
