The crazy thing is that if they had the copyright rules of today, they likely wouldn't have been able to used "The Turkey in the Straw" as they did here. The song was published in 1834 by George Washington Dixon, who died in 1861. This would means his song wouldn't have entered the public domain until 1931 by modern rules, however at the time copyright only lasted 28 years so the song entered the public domain in 1862. Disney took much public domain material to turn into their films and then extened copyright so that nobody could take from their stories. Cinderella, Snow White, and Pinocchio, song of their first popular movies, were based on public domain works. It's crazy to think what kind of stories and material we may have gotten if copyright law wasn't so long these days.
@@lavbubl Yeah, but Disney didn't have enough money to buy rights to copyrighted songs at the time. He had to sell his car in order to finance this cartoon!

Welcome to Mickey's Symphony of Pain. Where even if you're vibing with him, he'll turn on you, and he'll choke those notes he craves right on out of you. It's child's play for him to torture children at lunchtime, separate them from their mother via a swift hard kick... and then make them watch as he fondles and uses their poor, confused mother, making her squeal like what she is, and no doubt scarring her for life. He clearly wants his boss's job, but has done nothing to earn it, and comes off as a lousy employee. He tortures the ship's only source of mouse/rat/pest control (how ironic). Oh, and he totally killed that parrot at the end. Yeah, if I were the captain of that boat, (early Pete), I wouldn't like this Mickey either. That's because BOOBS is too "inappropriate" (even though kids should learn how the genitals of each gender works, it's not inappropriate, it's their body), but literal GORE = it's okay, IT'S ALRIGHT AND TOTALLY LEGAL
Right at his first appearance, Mickey Mouse had done some pretty questionable things. Especially having animals be his musical instruments (the animals seems willing, but still).
Given modern Disney's obsession with divergent sexuality, it's ironic they lost the rights to this now. The pig teat-o-phone will fit right in with the company's messaging in a couple of years, probably.

Can’t use his name and it can’t look like any version of him, it’s called a design mark and the literal design of the character is trademarked
@@ironhell813 from what i saw design marks only count for logos or specific designs of names that are used for recognition of a brand (so the simple mickey mouse ear logo would be covered as well as any other Disney logo) and they most likely also have a work mark on the name mickey mouse (meaning that you can't use the name in the title of your work no matter how it is stylised, eg mickey mouse's clubhouse)
the first design of mickey is public domain though (the design in the short as well as a few posters for the short that are now also public domain) so you can use that specific design and refer to the character as mickey mouse, you just can't do anything that suggests that disney endorsed it
You go Mickey! Make those animals perform! 👍💪😂😂😂
I only watched this for the whistle
