Thanks for this great insight. I've often toyed with the idea of getting a booth, you saved me the expense & disappointment.

Thank you for sharing such an honest experience on what it can really be like doing sales in this kind of environment. And offering tips on how to decide what to sell, how to set it up, and all the cost involved (time, money, resources etc). Hope the opportunity might come again for you at a later time in a better venue - although I'm sure your kept quite busy with rehabbing all those awesome sewing machines you find and giving them new life & homes!

There were several "craft malls" near me that were successful the first few months but vendors gradually left. I did have the info for a vendor who had unique pet items and contacted her. She told me straight out her business was steady but she wasn't exactly killing it; the problem was the landlord kept raising the rent and adding additional charges. The vendors weren't bringing in enough money to make it worthwhile. Fewer vendors meant less foot traffic, which in turn hurt remaining stores. Guess the landlord liked the empty spaces and lots less rent.

This is very helpful information. It's a shame places like this can't ever seem to make it profitable for both the renters and the store renting the spaces.

Thanks for sharing this! If you don’t mind me asking was your space a 6x10 and did you make or buy the bookshelves? If you bought them..where did you get it from?

My space was a 6x9. The bookshelves were made with plywood from Lowes cut and nailed together with a nail gun (2ft wide and 7tall). It took one day to put the bookshelves together and a second day to paint them. But, it was far cheaper than buying bookshelves at a store.

    Hello,
I literally just signed up for painted tree today and already want to cancel. Did you have to pay out the rest of your lease?

You can leave early but are still obligated to pay the full duration of your lease. In the two booths next to me, the vendors left their areas decorated but empty. So, I can only assume they were just paying the monthly fee and leaving the booths empty so they didn't have to pay for merchandise too.

I think I read fine print that you can cancel within 30 days or if you haven’t set up yet
I JUST signed up like last week and am set to put my space up by the 1st.
I am still going to just take the risk because my product is different than most of what is in the store and it’s in a good area..I’m super stressed rn but going to just go for it lol.
