Thanks for watching. What are your thoughts about the replica Singer sewing machines?

Lehman Hardware in Kidron OH which specializes in non-electric products for the Amish had been selling a reproduction Singer sewing machine fitted in a handmade treadle cabinet. They DISCONTINUED selling these reproduction machines because they were such poor quality and customers were dissatisfied with the results. Lehman still sells the treadle cabinets but they are fitted with dependable Janome sewing machines adapted to be powered by a foot treadle.
In my opinion the replica machines are good for display purposes but would be disappointing for regular use. Alpha Sew produced a replica of the famous Singer Featherweight but reviews stated it was NOT smooth running and didn't make good stitches. So don't waste your money unless you just want it fot a decoration.

Thank you for this video as it provides a good service to your viewers. I have too many vintage Singers (26) in my collection, though no 15. They range from a 1923 model 99 hand crank machine to a 1971 model 237. They all still work. Love your videos, you do a great job with them.

An easy way to tell an original Singer machine from a fake is the stitch length control. The originals were a big thumb screw that was twisted inward for a smaller stitch, outward for a longer stitch. SOME 101 models had a dial on the bed with stitch length numbers. None of the early machines had back stitch capability, and no Singers to my knowledge had numbers for tension (although some White machines did.) The paint job is often a dead giveaway when it's TOO bright and shiny for a vintage machine,
On another vintage machine group an evidently not-too-bright woman posted pix of a "genuine, original 1915 Singer red eye" she had purchased. I commented that her machine was clearly a repro because no machine of that vintage had a PLASTIC drop feed dial, or a stitch length lever with reverse settings. The dimwit reported me to the moderator because she felt my comments were "unkind" and the moderator sent me a reprimand. If that woman thought those comments were "unkind," she probably had a meltdown from my PM suggesting (among other things) that she seek professional help for her problems with emotional maturity. I also sent a PM to the moderator suggesting she change the name of her group to Happy Talk About Sewing Machines so that the mentally unstable won't become unhinged by "unkind" comments. "Yes sweetheart, that's such a pretty machine. Bless your heart."
Anyway, LOVE your posts because you always keep it real Good wishes!

Wow, I had never heard of this happening. But then again unfortunately ,it seems like dishonesty is everywhere these days. I have a 99k, that I love, and will use caution if I make another purchase. Great vlog.

Hello, I enjoyed watching this video, the Singer 15 is possibly the most replicated (or imitated) sewing machine ever. My first sewing machine was a made in China 15k treadle clone with the brand name "Colour Lion". 😄

Funny name choice. But if it got the job done im not mad at it. 😂

Fascinating. I wonder who was making those fakes. You mention China, but were they making them at that time, or I would think that that is something much more recent? (I grew up on a real Singer 15-91, and have one now:-)).

They were made various places including China and Taiwan.

How old are the fakes? I thought fakes were a fairly new scam. Thank you, very interesting 😊

The fake Singer's, complete with Singer badges, have been a thing since the 80's. I didn't know it either. But, when I ran across one on FB, it lead me to make the video. Thanks for watching.

If someone wants a Singer 15, without the price, DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND BUY A GOOD JAPANESE MADE CLONE.

First of all, the fake machine doesn't look like a Singer 15. It looks more like a 201. Singer 15s had the tension dial on the nose of the machine, as well as the take up lever. I'm not saying that it's not a fake, but it's not a 15.

Actually, if you look closer at the reproduction machine it does have the tension assembly on the nose of the machine like a 15, but has a stitch length lever style that looks like a 201.

I wouldn't take one of those fake machines if someone tried to give it to me for free. Hell no!
The copy/fake machines you see from India always look very garish in their colours and patterns and just scream "cheap rubbish" 🫤. I know good quality when I see it and would never be fooled by these ghastly copies. Just yuck 🤢.
BTW I own three vintage Singers including a gorgeous mint condition hand crank 99K (made in Kilbowie Scotland), which is my oldest machine. I also have an old model Janome from the '80s for extra stitch variety.☺️

The 99K is a really nice machine.
