Greenhill Junction - Loss of mojo, broken loco, new loco - Video 67
It's been a while between videos, mainly because of the mind block I'm having trying to plan the scenery to the left of the river scene I created in the last video.
It's curved tracks over curved tracks and no matter what I plan it just doesn't work out. That, coupled with badly damaging one of my favourite and probably rarest locos in the process has led to a major loss of mojo for doing anything on the railway bar occasionally running trains.
What has perked me up is getting a new loco to replace the broken one, and I'll show you briefly the detail and features on it before a good old running session.
I hope you enjoy the video. Please leave any comments you have, like and share the vide...

Greenhill Junction - Creating a realistic river scene - Video 66
Просмотров 63810 месяцев назад
This has been my project over the winter, and my biggest modelling challenge to date, creating the river scene that connects the two sides of the layout. I had to work around previous mistakes, in that my access was restricted due to being unable to remove the two low bridges, and work to make the farm scene flow into the river scene. I'll also show you how I used toilet paper to create a flowi...
Greenhill Junction - The devil is in the details - Video 65
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.Год назад
Continuing on from the previous video where I created the scenic areas at the front of the station, the good yard and the farm, I now look at adding all the little details that bring these scenes to life. I show you how I made scale and, hopefully, period accurate road and bus stop signs, how adding vehicles (and positioning them differently) makes the road scene much more interesting and also ...
Greenhill Junction - Building a farm and goods yard scene - Video 64
Просмотров 2,2 тыс.Год назад
Another big project has been undertaken on Greenhill Junction. I decided to get the station side of the layout completely scenically covered, so this meant completing the road down to and past the station building, and creating the good yard, which up until now just had a building next to some sidings. The biggest job was deciding what to do with the gap between the goods yard and the bridges. ...
Greenhill Junction - Forest hillside and backscene building - Video 63

Continuing on with the scenery on the station side of the layout, I've moved onto the scenery to the back of the upper level. First I had to install more back scenes, and I found a cheaper way to do it than using the recommended glue. I will show you how using cheap wallpaper paste produces a far better backscene, and makes it easier to position on the boards. Next I had to create the shape of ...

A new loco has arrived at Greenhill Junction, the Hornby A1 " Knight of the Thistle" in LNER green livery. I got this fron the TMC sale at a heavily reduced price of £128 compared to the RRP of £228 which some retailers are still selling this model at. Harry Potter train crossing the Glenfinnan Viaduct - 05/05/2023

Yesterday I was hiking the two Munros north of the Glenfinnan Viaduct, and timed it perfectly on the way back to the car to catch the Harry Potter train (don't know if that's it's official name or not 🤣) crossing the viaduct, travelling back to Fort William from Mallaig. The final part of the village build, adding the cottages with their gardens and extending the park. Hi, moments like this when nothing goes right, just step back clear away the rubbish and give it time while you run trains, something will come to you. I always try to imagine, how would you build that in real life, then use those principles on my layout..............As for knocking your favourite loco off the board, it's not that bad as far as I can see. I'd repair it as best you can and still run it, at least the body doesn't have a huge crack in it. As for people hating Hornby, it's totaly a personal opinion, I like Heljan diesels and many people don't. personal taste. You have a great layout, and it looks great, enjoy it. All the best Dave.

      Hi Al. Thank you very much, glad you like the work. It was quite a bit of see what happens and hope for the best, in my head at least, but very enjoyable to see it progress to the finished scene. It's such a clever idea and I'd love to see how other people get on with it. I'll need to check out Mark's channel. Cheers, John.

    Another fine piece of modelling John, the finished product looks really fantastic. I think you embody what modelling is all about for me, coming up with ingenious ways of creating the effect you want without spending a large amount of money. Also not being afraid to use and adapt the methods shared by others. Well done mate. Chris

      Hi Chris. Thank you so much. ☺️ I am passionate about trying to show how this hobby can be done with as little cost as possible, it's all part of the fun to create these landscapes with what I can get a hold of around the house! I also think that learning from other modellers and trying techniques you find useful is a great way to enhance your own skill. There is no way I would've attempted this scene without first seeing Chandwell's video. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, John.

    I think you’re doing a great job,not many of us are experts so we just do our best….it looks excellent,really like the stone effects around the bridge and banks. I used DAS clay for my river,rolled it out quite thinly then just pressed my finger into it to form the water effects,once it had dried I painted it then gloss varnish. Keep up the good work .

    • @GreenhillJunction
      @GreenhillJunction 10 месяцев назад

      Hi David. Firstly an apology, my fat finger hit the dislike button instead of the comment one, so sorry! I've never heard of DAS clay before, but can see how that would be good for a river, and probably save the painting stage before the varnish. I'm happy you like the work and yes, the stones just add something a bit different. Cheers, John.

    Hi John, I've just finished watching this with my grandson. He likes the bridges and river. He's with us for the weekend, so he'll be finishing off the kit he's building and maybe start filming a new video for his Dylington Model Railway channel. Speaking of which, did you catch his last one, Dylington Rocks, with loud rock music and flashing lights along with a few trains running . He's looking forward to your next update... Cheers James 🙂👍

      @GreenhillJunction we had great fun together building the stage and the whole rock concert scene, and then it was over to him for the filming. He's just been saying to me he might try doing a river at some point. He does like your layout 🙂👍

    Maybe a fence at the top of the embankment where the grass joins. Should hide the join and it'll stop the cows from wandering down to the river

    • @GreenhillJunction
      @GreenhillJunction 10 месяцев назад

      Hi Duncan. Thanks for watching and commenting. I did think about a fence, but thought it might look strange if I didn't run it all the way along to the farm? I know of don't notice the join now that I have the whole scene to look at, but do wish I'd done that small bit of embankment at the same time as the fields. Cheers, John.

    I use different colour Sharpie pens to paint in small detail work such as the bands on the whisky barrels, nice modelling anyway, pleasant to watch.

      @@GreenhillJunction hello John, I look at your layout and it is very nice, I never thought of using a smaller building as a milking station..I’m used to large barns..so there’s plenty of room for me to get some fresh ideas from you and others I view. Overall I think you have a great idea for your layout and it’s very easy to get lost in that world..I use unpainted figures to back fill areas with people. I paint them with water based paints cheap paint and works well..saves money..I only buy special people as I need them..Yes they are expensive.. I don’t know if you have e bay in the UK . Lots of good things cheap even Amazon has some cheap people sets..well enjoy and take care..

    It would be even more interesting if the vehicles and buildings are weathered to give realism, otherwise the scene looks like a toy town.

    • @GreenhillJunction
      @GreenhillJunction Год назад

      Hi. Thanks for watching and commenting. I don't really bother with weathering, apart from on a few wee things. At the end of the day it is a big adult toy to me, and while I take inspiration from the real world, I like it looking a bit too clean. Cheers, John.

    Hi, thanks for the informative video. I'm a new z21 user, and I'm finding almost every time I use it, one of the locos works okay, but the display on my iPad doesn't show coloured when I press a function or use the throttle. Any idea why and how to cure this?

    • @GreenhillJunction
      @GreenhillJunction Год назад

      Hi. Glad you found the video useful. I'm not sure what you mean. Which bit of the display doesn't show as coloured? I'd maybe try just resetting the DCC chip to factory and re-installing the chip onto the Z21 if all your other locos work ok. Sometimes there are just ghosts in the system that a good old reset helps to cure. Cheers, John.
