  • A follow on from the previous video where I added the scenic details to my hillside, in this video I show you how I went about making the gorse bushes and hedgerows that I used in the moorland scene.
    These are really simple to make, but I think really effective. As usual it's a very cost effective method to make them and I think they look better than anything you can buy ready made, plus you have the option of customising the method to make what suits your layout.
    As always please leave me any comments you have, like and share the video if you think it is any good and subscribe to the channel to keep up to date with the progress on the layout.
    Thanks for watching.

    A great tip for obtaining the natural look, a cost saving too 😁

      Hi Barra. Indeed a cost saving, and I think a better effect than most ready made things. Means I can go spend more money on models. 😂😂 Cheers, John.

      Hi Larry. Thanks very much, sometimes the simple ways turn out the best. Starting to really like hairspray as a bonding agent! Lol. Cheers, John.

    Lichen or seafoam (it's lichen), you did a bang up job. I liked the frozen crayon idea. Very clever! Your scenics are really standing out now.

      Hi Anthony. Thanks very much, I'm really pleased with how it's turned out. I saw the crayon idea on RUclips a few years ago, can't remember who by, bit it works a treat. Cheers, John.

      Hi Andy. Thanks very much. Really pleased with how it's turned out. The crayon idea is great, wish I could take credit for it but I saw it on RUclips a few years ago, and one crayon goes a long way. Cheers, John.

    Hi. I see Andy from Moorland already informed you what you were using. Good lad, Andy. Lol. I will be checking out my home center for moss and lichen. Thanks for the tips. See ya.

      Hi Norman. Yeah I've been educated lol. I think it was after Xmas 2019 I picked that stuff up, even the lady at the till didn't know why it was so cheap! Very versatile stuff for a model railway. Cheer, John.

    Nice one thanks for sharing. The soft material that you have used for your hedges is lichen, the same stuff that woodland scenics sell. I made bushes on my last but 1 video, some out of lichen but mine was dried. It's great to see different techniques atb Andy

      Hi Andy. Thanks for watching and commenting. Ah, that's not seafoam then 🙄 😂 shows what I know lol. I'll try to get some of that and make some trees then. Always good to see the different ways people make things, I find it very cathartic to plan and do something that then turns out good. Cheers, John.

    Hi John- That is a good method and I do have some crayons in the freezer to use and i may give them a try on some Seafoam trees I am making . I find seafoam makes good trees with a blast of paint , coarse turf and if colour required the crayons. I have found the WWS mixed pack good value and the odd bits you can use for bushes too.
    Cheers Kev

      @GreenhillJunction  3 года назад +1

      Hi Kev. I should've said in the video make sure you use the fine grater, otherwise the bits will be too big. I'll need to get some seafoam and have a go, any bought model trees I see online just don't do it for me. Cheers, John.

      @medwaypeninsulaMR 3 года назад

      Thanks John - I am on the look out for a small grater in case Mrs Peninsula wonders where the one in the kitchen has gone !! Agree re trees ,Unless you go expensive the model trees dont look real

      Hi Tom. Exactly! Why pay loads when you can have a go yourself and it's so easy to do. I'm not exactly a skilled modeller or artist but with a bit of time and planning you can achieve a lot. Cheers, John.
