  • Another big project on the layout completed, building the scenery between the lower station, the bridges and building an embankment to join the upper and lower levels together.
As always I use cheap, readily available materials and show how a detailed landscape can be created without spending loads of money.
It's a bit of a long video, but there was lots of planning and building to be done before even getting onto the scenic work, and I wanted to create an overgrown sort of forest look, so it wasn't as simple as putting down some scatter.
Thanks for watching. Please leave any comments you have, like and share the video and subscribe to keep up to date with the layout.

Hi Al. Thanks very much. I really like the scrub and forest section and think I'll continue that on the landscape towards the backscenes when I get them installed. Cheers, John.

Great work, well done! Really like the embankment foliage.

Hi David. Thanks for watching and commenting. The embankment did turn out well. I have to admit at one stage I thought I'd completely messed it up and the end result is the product of a "Let's just give this a go and see what happens" moment. 🤣 Sometimes they work out the best. Cheers, John.

Hi John - Great work on the new scenic area . The line through the tunnel works well and it does look like it goes off to somewhere else .
The multi level running shots show it off nicely.
    Cheers Kev

Hi Kev. Yeah, it did work out well. Amazing how just hiding the corner makes it look like it's going a completely different direction. I really enjoyed filming the running shots at the end. First time I'd ran trains for months and good fun finding new angles for filming the new scenery. It should look really good once I get the back scenes up. Cheers John.

Hi John, hope you are well. I really enjoyed this video, great to see the transformation from base board to finished scenics.
A man after my own heart when it comes to budget building techniques, you really don't need all of the expensive materials to create a realistic landscape. Looking great & keep up the fantastic work pal, all the best.....Andy

Hi Andy. I'm very well thanks, enjoying having some time building on the railway. I enjoyed the transformation too. I didn't really appreciate it until I edited the clips. I feel there is so much pressure to go out and get all the expensive stuff, hopefully showing some inexpensive ways will encourage people to give it a go and ultimately achieve the same result. Cheers, John.

Stipple some burt umber poster paint on to the shiny area , and before it dries stipple in the odd bit of tan colour and an odd bit of black ; but don`t use green . Then add more of your rough foliage and bushes . It is too steep for grass , but bushes will grow from crevices in very steep areas .

Hi. Thanks for watching and commenting. I'll give the stippling a go and see if that covers the shiny bits. I'll have a look at maybe adding some small bushes to the ledges, that's an interesting idea and may break it up a bit. Cheers, John.

The girder looks wrong, only supported by half the width of the retaining wall. It needs to sit on a concrete pad to spread the load, as I doubt even a double brick wall would be sufficient!

Hi. I'm not a structural engineer, just a modeller making a scene that I think looks good. Works for me. Cheers, John.

Yes, a tunnel portal with two embankment's doesn't work for what is essentially a fly-under the bridge approach.

Hi. Thanks for watching and commenting. The plan developed as it went along and the bridge became the best option for that section. Cheers, John.
