Well, Peter... that was another glorious tour inside the Road and the Mindset... nice work on the 66 and discussion all around... and some great stock in motion, too!
Looking great Peter, I had to stop halfway through so I think I may have missed a close up of your special coupler device… I have the evening star 66 by Accurascale, but haven’t got it converted to dcc yet, You have got me thinking… All the best mate- Ross
Hi Ross, nothing special about the coupling, it's an old Hunt coupling magnet but it has a wire hoop attached that goes over the locos coupling hook. Just a case of getting the right length to allow the room for the movement as it goes around the curves Thanks for watching Cheers Peter

Hello. Not come across your channel before. The blue first Bachmann is a great looking loco. If it's still making that noise after you've stripped it down and serviced it, then it probably needs a new motor. Luckily, as it's a Bachmann, you'll be able to get a replacement pretty easily and cheaply, and judging by what you're saying, you have the skills to replace it yourself. I'm kicking myself on missing out on the Accurascale Evening Star, and as you say, the second hand examples on eBay are silly money. Oh well... Yours looks and runs superbly. I particularly like the "9F" printed under the cab windows, which is a nice tribute/nod to the original steam loco.
Let's be Honest Peter it is a drug, once you dip your toes into model trains you have to get a fix (New Rolling stock) every month. Bill from Western Australia. Stay Safe mate. PS I have 42 Locos Plus, Plus.
Ha ha yes so true. I always like detail (its the modeller in me) so although to have fine detail on a model means you have to treat it with care, I love it and now there's just more and more now days. Thanks for watching Peter
Maybe some silica gel pack in the starage boxes might help with the damper conditions if thats whats causing the issue. Maybe it`s me I`d love a few knacked motors to get inside and see whats what with then.
Hi CLive, yes I would love to get into the Backmann motor to see what's up with it. Interestingly I have got its case loose so I can move the bits side to side but not off because the weights stop me from doing so and I just can't get them off completely and its affecting the sound I can get it running quietly. So it's not the bearing after all but what? that's the question. Thanks for watching Cheers Peter.... Ohh PS you must have the "fittest" postman in the country with the amount of parcels you have delivered LoL
Hi Peter, you don't seem to have much luck with motors do you. Do you think storing your locos in the shed might be a possible cause for your motor noise, getting damp in the mechanisms and all. Might be worth storing the ones you don't use much in the house...............although you said some have been stored in the shed much longer than this 66 with no detrimental effect. Anyway nice to see your layout again...............All the very best and thanks, Dave.
Hi Dave, yes could be but even when I was up in the loft years ago that wasn't much better. The ones on the shelf are on a foam base and covered over. If I find I get more cases I will for sure do something. I will have to see. Thanks for watching all the best Peter
I wonder if moisture has degraded the rubber on the bearings and small parts of the rubber are stuck to the metal spindle causing a wobble and hence the noise.
Hi Al, for my sins yes. They are on a foam base and I cover them over when not in use so they don't get dusty etc and some are in those storage boxes with the foam inserts. During the cold spell I don't run the trains. If this is down to cold storage it's the first time in the 5 years in the shed and I have locos that are older than this that have been on the layout and not stored that are running OK. Will have to see how it goes. Cheers Peter
Hi Derick, yes all my Bachmann models have been fixed. The 66s I used the excellent illuminated models product and the class 20 I fitted LED to put that right too. Bachmann seem to have a problem with loco lighting, some are OK some not OK Cheers Peter
Hi there, I can feel how 'rough' the motor turns when not under power turning it by hand and the Alpha meter shows the power side of it is running well. Anyway fixed now with a new motor. Thanks for watching all the best Peter
Am having similar trouble with my 66727 . mines surges but amp meter says it`s ok . But had the same with dapol 68 to whtich i sorted so i need a new motor as well for the 66 .
Hello Peter
