Hi Al. Thanks for watching and commenting. The chicken wire is so versatile for creating landscapes and it makes it much more random and natural. I find when humans try to carve it it ends up too uniform. It's very cheap to do it this way too compared to the sculptamold and the like. Cheers, John.
Hi Ed. Thanks for watching and commenting. Glad you like the work I've done, it's definitely one of my favourite scenes on the layout so far. Cheers, John.
Hi John I am totally impressed by your work on the layout. The farm looks amazing especially during the running session shots. The goods yard is looking great, the connecting road brings everything together very nicely. As I have already said am totally impressed. Regards Tom… oh and thanks for showing the Tunnocks van I have one also.
Hi Tom. Thanks for your lovely comments. ☺️ The farm has turned out very well and I'm still working on finding other angles to get running shots over it. I still feel the road is quite grey and boring, I'll need to research what I can live it up with, maybe another zebra crossing? I'd love to get a Tunnocks wagon for the goods train. Cheer, John.
Great work, you clearly enjoy doing the scenery, it comes across in your commentary! Inspiration for me to get myself upstairs and crack on with Amberlea.........😁Chris
Hi Chris. Thanks so much for watching and commenting. I really do enjoy creating the scenery. It just brings the whole thing to life and I love seeing how it progresses, and coming up with the solutions to the inevitable problems that crop up. Cheers, John.
Just picked up your channel from You Tube and I just wanted to say how impressive your work is. Now going to watch a few of the previous ones and see if I can get some tips to emulate for my little layout! Thanks for taking the time to upload for us all. Regards Steve
Hi Steve. Thank you so much for your kind comments. I'm glad you've taken some inspiration from it. Hope you find the other videos helpful too. Cheers, John.

Well done. A very enjoyable and informative video. I'm really impressed by what I saw. I'm in the process of building my own layout right now and you've given me several ideas I can use. Now I've found your channel I've subscribed to it and will be looking at your other work. Thanks again.
Hi. Thanks so much for watching and subscribing to my channel, I really appreciate it. I'm glad you like what I've done and I hope some of my ideas can help you build your layout. It really is good fun to create the landscape this way. Cheers, John.
Hi David. Thanks for watching and commenting. I am especially pleased with the farm and the fields. Like I said I prefer doing the rural landscaping and I think there is more scope to try out different things to vary the landscape. Cheers, John.
I decided I want to build a model railway, last one I had was back in 1968 that I had on my mom's kitchen table that went around and around. I've been watching dozens of RUclips channels on builds and I like yours the best and I'm going to try to duplicate what you have done. It will not be nearly as good as yours but I will give it a shot. I love the way you have your layout going to the second level. I'm going to try to do that also. Only place I could build my layout is in my dining room so I cleared it out and built a table that is around 9 x 12 so that should give me plenty a room. I'm going to do it in N gauge so I have more room.
Hi. Thanks for the amazing compliment, I'm very flattered that you think my channel is one of the best. All the best in your railway build, you should have lots of room to model what you want in N gauge. All I would say is take your time to plan and think about it, that's why my videos come out every few months. I spend a lot of time visualising and planning, and then adjusting the planning as I go along! Cheers, John.
Hi Big Ron. Thanks for watching and commenting. Glad you like my content. I try to show that things can be done much more economically than other more popular methods, and achieve the same results. Cheers, John.
Hi Carlton. Lol, that would be an interesting scene, unfortunately all they'll find is chicken wire and fresh air! 🤣🤣 Maybe I can just have a bull chasing the team out the field! Cheers, John.
Just stumbled across your channel. It's a great looking layout with some nice scenery, I must show it to my grandson (11) when I see him next. He's busy planning a 009 layout at the moment. Maybe he'll post his progress on his channel, Dylington Model Railway, once he gets going. Off to check out your earlier videos now cheers James 🙂👍
Hi James. Thanks for watching and commenting on the video. I hope your grandson finds it interesting too. My nieces and nephews love the railway, more playing with it than working on it though! It's great that he's already planning his own model railway, I hope I give him some inspiration. Cheers, John.
I just know how much work you must have put in to get it to this stage scene. The farm scene looks very good. One thing you might consider is "street and station lighting" wether its the real lighting or not is up to you but a few street lights will definatley enhance the overall view. Not a critisicim just a thought. Looking forward to seeing the end product although its difficult to say when its actually finished ......my layout is constantly evolving even after twenty or some years!
Hi. Thanks for watching and commenting on the video. I'd considered street lighting a while ago but only looked at the real ones, which I'd never use so I deemed it a waste of money. It's a good idea though, to add something different to the scene, I'll have a look around for some "fake" ones. I'm currently working on signage for the roads and getting a few more vehicles. I need figures too but the cheap ones are rubbish, the good ones are expensive, and I don't have the patience or the steady hand to paint them myself. 🙄 Cheers, John.
Hi John- First off thanks for the plug , I do like how you and John from Exehaven mnage to get the coaster in shot !!! That area has really come out well and the fields are excellent , the chicken wire system does seen easier than cutting foam and a lot less mess too. I like that texture sheet you used for the yard can I ask where you got it from ? The road joins well between upper and lower and there is a nice flow through to the farm . Once you have got all the little details it is going to be a nice feature . The running shots does show it off well . Cheers Kev
Hi Kev. The chicken wire system is very easy, just got to watch for the sharp edges, but much less mess than foam or sculptamold, and significantly cheaper too! The texture sheets were from eBay. This is the link to the shop: www.ebay.co.uk/str/starboc1?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=1yN5yvZWSCm&sssrc=3418065&ssuid=5RG_TpbzTVi&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY He has lots of different patterns, I think it comes from Greece but was delivered quite quickly. I'm looking forward to getting the little details in to enhance the scene. Cheers, John b
John, Great video . Can you tell us the cobbled paper . Where did you purchase this and is it available . I have a wall area on my layout and neeeds covering. Thanks again. Alan

Hi Martin. I can't remember exactly the size of layout. I think it's just over 13ft long and 8ft wide. I'll double check and let you know. Cheers, John.
Hi Martin. I remeasured it as I realised I hadn't done so since I rejigged the bridge end of the layout. It's actually just over 14ft long and 8.4ft wide.
Hi John, I think you’re doing a brilliant job did like the chicken wire idea on the farm landscape looks good thanks for sharing cheers Al

WOW! That is some brilliant work! I love how the farm is flowing into the background and the yard is quite well-started and looking good! Best wishes!
Hi Anthony. Thanks for watching and commenting. Glad you like what I've done. The flowing fields have worked out well. Cheers, John.
Hi, just found your channel and really impressed. Enjoy your techniques.

What would be great if you had a time team dig in part of the field. But it looks really good any way.
