- Another new addition to Greenhill Junction, the recent new release by Hornby of the Merchant Navy class steam loco "Aberdeen Commonwealth" in Southern Railways wartime black livery.
I've had my eye on this for a while and finally found it at a discounted price so couldn't resist. I have a look at the detail of the loco (there is quite a bit when you look closely at it) then finish with a lot of clips round the layout of all 4 of my Merchant Navy locos having a running session.

Hi Anthony. I didn't realise how long it had been since I'd posted a video! Out and about too much enjoying the good weather just now and the village is taking a lot longer than anticipated, plus I never seem to have a good block of free hours to sit and do the work. You've got to treat yourself once in a while John 😁 and a fine locomotive it is, very nice. Try changing the wheels on the odd carriage, may be an different size fitted? All the best, Andy

@GreenhillJunction very nice to meet you John. Lol, that's the trouble isn't it, space! I am trying to decide on which to get, I can't afford a lot but I really want the Merchant Navy type, but they are pricey with none used.

Lovely loco I’ve one put by in my local model shop just waiting for funds from the boss 👌😎 regards fred ps black southern every time for me pps I’m just attempting to get some signalling on the layout

Well worth the wait for it I'd say and good on your model shop for putting it by for you, mine does the same and it is rare for me to wander in and not buy something! 😂😂 Are you going for automated signalling or the manual ones? I opted for manual because it was more of a scenic element for me rather than something functional. Cheers, John.

Hi John- I do love that black Merchant Navy it looks really impressive and as yo say although it is a plain livery there is plenty of detail. And I must compliment your extensive Southern Region stock next you will need some Battle of Britain / West Contry Classes and maybe a Q1 !!!!!
I pre ordered East Asiatic when it was announced as I love the blue livery then had second thoughts so cancelled it . After watching your video I had second , second thoughts as I can use Mrs Medway's Blue Light Discount but then Hornby increased their prices by 10% . I was speaking to Rob at Boomerang Junction about locos I was sending up to him when he mentioned that he was selling at a very reasonable price with lamps , firebox glow and crew fitted the said East Asiatic. I am now the proud owner of Merchant Navy East Asiatic . So alls well that ends well LOL

Hi Kev. Nice one, can't wait to see the East Asiatic with all the lamps and firebox glow fitted. It'll look spectacular. I've always liked the Merchant Navy locos in their various guises, right up there with the A4s in my book for design and liveries. Gradually built it up over the past few years. I'd really like to get down south and see one of the preserved ones on real life, they never come up to Scotland as far as I know. I do quite like the schools class (I think that is what it's called, double bogied tender loco) in Southern Livery and have been looking about for a decent one. Cheers, John.
