SPRAY PAINTING THE PONTIAC VENTURA?!?!?!
In this video we rattle can budget paint job our 1972 Pontiac Ventura sprint project car revival. After 40+ years off the road and stored both indoors and outdoors it really took a toll of the body of this ventura. After making body panel and sheet metal repairs our hands were forced to do something to improve the look of this car so we opted for a budget paint job. Let me know your thoughts on our budget patina matched repairs!

40 YEARS OF DIRT REMOVED!! Cleaning up the interior in the Pontiac Ventura
Просмотров 2,7 тыс.21 день назад
After weeks of tripping over the pile of interior parts for the Pontiac Ventura sprint x body project we are finally ready to install them to get them out of our way. These parts, pieces, and panels are DISGUSTING so we needed to use some elbow grease to get these things to clean up. After a little bit of TLC however everything came around and looks pretty darn good without breaking the bank!

We get back to work on our 1972 Pontiac Ventura sprint project. After 40 years taken apart in a storage unit its time we get this thing back on the streets where it belongs. Unfortunately this x body needs nearly every nut and bolt gone over or replaced in order to make it roadworthy once again. In this episode we service the 10 bolt posi-traction rear and rebuild/replace the rear suspension. A...

Aftermarket parts failures leave us scrambling before last race of season. Cheaply made hydraulic flat tappet cam failure strikes our ripper 307 sbc that was well on its way to making a budget 12 second pass. We quickly shift our focus to getting the car running again and cram our $400 mystery motor into the car to see what its capable of.

Did we quite possibly make the most fun, cheap, and reliable bracket car out there?

I really dug your budget build mentality. You’re saving these cars with what you have. A breathe of fresh air in the X Body community! Bravo!
LOOKING GOOD MAN 😁 THE RUNNING GEAR IN MY 68 CHEVY P.UP COME FROM A PONTIAC VENTURA (85) RUNS GREAT FOR A 305 ! !👍
Great work man! Such a cool car. The paint isn’t for me. I love patina. But for some reason this just didn’t do it for me. But it’s your car! So all that matters is you like it!
Dan you seriously do the best patina Nova builds on RUclips. This turned out so good! I would recommend a little more blending up on the roof though, looks out of place where your orange paint sort of just stops. Rattle can if up further and slowly blend it out to the top of the quarter
You nailed it when you said " makes zero sense ... ". That said, it doesn't have to. Not to me anyway. Getting it back on the road is the important part, the rest is in the eyes of the beholder. That also said ... I want to say the roof, fender, and door look horrible ... but that's not really accurate ... they fit the overall theme, but just clash too much with the rest of the car. Their level of " patina " ( I really despise that word ) is too far from the rest of the car. In the end, it's up to you and what makes you happy, but you did ask for opinions.
Dan, The hood looks amazing! I would try and match the rest of the car to look like the hood if you can still get it done under a budget, my two cents worth... Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from my family to yours!!!
Not my thing, after all that work I’d have just painted it with a mat finish, all one color. Still, you saved one👍🏻
Nothing like a solid driver. It looks great. Look into ames performance for all your pontiac parts. Keep doing what your doing.
Looking awesome Merry Christmas to y'all
Paints good need to do something with the roof. Otherwise it’s a great car !!!!
Pretty sick man❤
Make the roof look more like the hood. That's just too much rust patina on the roof. that roof won't last long looking like that before it rust through.
Should of used a primer sealer several coats and wet sand and wet sand that will hide alot of mistakes
It's great that you have put it back together and almost ready for the road! If it was me I would get one more can of paint and spray the roof without pre sanding it. I would lay the most of the prodic at the top of the quarters and around the perimeter and just mist it over the middle. then I would wet sand it tell the rust comes through and most of the orange is gone. I would think it would match a lot better. But at the end of the day, it's your car and you are doing a great job!! My first car is a 68 nova ss I restored with my dad 18 years ago and it's the same collar orange but with black hood and trunk stripes, i drive it all the time tell the snow shows up each year.
The Krylon Kid strikes again!!! Lots of waves in the body. If it was blue it would look like the ocean.
All it's missing is a reef on the front grill👍
If you ever find a economical engine that would work perfectly, I would look for a OHC Pontiac straight 6. That would be perfect!!
I would have like to see it fully rattle can painted, even though the body work isn’t perfect would still be a nice car. That being said, it’s your car, if you like it, to hell with me and what everyone else thinks
Love it🤘 paint is stupid expensive for the average guy so this is a damn good alternative.
What you still could do is prep it a little more go to a maaco and what you will have in paint see if you can get a close collor match they will prep it final and let them paint it cheap I think they have some specials for about 200 bucks plus a warranty I remember car craft has a article on on a budget how you can get a decent paint job if you prep it yourself you can still do it and would make a good video!
My wife saw me watching you paint your car. She said, "he is doing what? Why is he doing that way? You wouldn't do it that way." 😂. Love you channel and your personality. Have a Merry Christmas!
I just want to know why u didnt do the roof
The Ventura is my favorite low budget you did what most people’s budget will allow, I especially love you put a six cylinder three speed manual in it no one does that don’t change a thing it looks great
Love it! Totally get your vision and what you’re going for. Especially like you said, it’s either in the budget or not, we’re all just here for the ride anyway! 🍻
looks great
I have to commend you on your hard work and dedication to getting these cars that are ultimately destined for the scrap yard and getting them running and driving again. The cars that you have put back on the road can be enjoyed not only by you and your family but many others who have fond memories of them on the road many years ago. They can be improved on and still be enjoyed while making improvements instead of being left to rot behind a shed or in a storage unit. Keep doing what you’re doing saving these vehicles. I am proud of your hard work. Merry Christmas!
I hoped you would just make it all in 1 Color but you did not and went for the fake Patina 😢 I do not get it, why do all this work, just put the spray max epoxy primer on it. Then a nice color(s) of your choice and clear coat it heavily. After that a good cut and polish, works so nice. I did this myself several times and everyone thinks it is a professional job and go crazy when I say it’s done with rattle cans.
It looks 100 times better
good job but i would paint the roof and door also ... now its a half job it looks like,,
Like you i love ratty novas, so keep on keeping on!
Looks awesome bud good job !!! Merry Christmas to you and your family as well 😊
Patina keeps rust that grows later. It's a cop out for beauty.
You should run the buffer over the whole car now. I did that on my 64 galaxie and it turned out awesome for shitty old paint. I dig ratty muscle cars! For those upset with the paintjob, just remember. He did put a 250 inline 6 in the car.
It turned out pretty damn cool! Merry Christmas to you as well!
I dig it!
I love the dull finish, but I'd have done it all over. But it ain't my car!!!
You have inspired me to look for a 68-72 nova.
Dude you gotta paint the entire car
Hey who does the music at the end of the video? Thanks and marry Christmas
I think it turned out awesome, I love it I often tell people I grew up in the 70s and back then it had to be Hot Rod magazine quality or it wasn't respected. You guys nowadays are doing cars that the average guy with limited skills and limited budget can do and be proud of. Keep up the good work
I like it, good job
I had a '73 Nova, I believe it was called "Competition Orange" Whatever it was, it was really pretty...
It does need some more orange, especially on the roof ! But thats just my opinion ! Lol ! You are doing a great job on the car. That car would look really Awesome if it looked and shined just like the hood does. Back in the day I was a broke dude . Driving a 72 nova with a ventura front clip on it. All my friends thought it was cool. I still wish that I had it.
Its a car again! Congrats
I will never pay for special color mix in an arisal again. It didn't match and I found a closer match on the shelf at the hardware store
merry x-mass and where are you going to put this one
Love the petina look!!!
Perfect! My favorite ride was a "rat rod" '87 S10 pickup done with $40 worth of W-mart rattle can black primer. Enjoyed DRIVING that rather than washing, buffing and waxing. Big block 427 Mercruiser out of a boat tossed under the hood DID account for some of the fun👍👍
Not my preference and not my car , good job on getting it back on the road , I can count on 1 hand how many venturas I have seen
You should add a comfort zone garage heater in your garage
