I'd keep that motor, the car deserves to be as original as possible. Hell,I'm leaving the 262 v8 in my 75 Nova! Decent mileage, and plenty of power to daily.
My mother had a gremlin when my sisters and I was kids. She stopped at a store and as we was leaving the store parking lot, my sister fell out the door. (No I didn't push her, I was in the back seat.) As soon as she hit the ground she started running behind the car as mom was stopping. To this day, (and now we are all 3 in our 50s) my sister hates it when I bring that story up. The car looks to be in pretty nice shape. I can't wait to see you drive it.
Havent seen one them in a long while . Could get some cheap heads to go with those headers. An a eletroniic ignition . Id rebuild that lower end block . Freshen it up. Hope you post more videos on this project .
I love the gremlin! I have a 76 gremlin that I have been doing videos on. Yours looks like it's in great shape, considering its age. The extra grille is a very nice bonus. Seems like people have a hard time finding grills for gremlins since they aren't remanufactured. Someone would love it if you didn't want it and a good one goes for good money. Cool video, dude!
If you have an extra 600 cfm holley, I would install that. It is possible pertronix has a electronic conversation for your distributor. If memory serves, that 304ci never was a great running motor. Wasn't bad, but . Good luck. Don't spend to much money.
Dump the 2 barrel. Keep the 304, if it hasn't wiped out the main bearings yet. If you're street driving it, keep the front discs and put 15 inch steelies on it. Dump the 3 speed and stick a Jeep 5 speed in.
I'm gonna guess the shifter bushings are gone, and the shifter is stuck between the shift rods... We would wrap speaker wire around the shift rods, to hold them together... With the V8, it should go like Snot... With the straight 6, we could wind 2nd gear up to 55 mph... 💪💪💪
Good news about the trans. Jeep used that same bolt pattern for the 4.0 bellhousing. So you can get an ax15 for a 5 speed swap. AMC also used TH400 and 727 transmissions if you’d like to go automatic
I have a 74 gremlin with a firebreathing AMC 360 going in it. Unfortunately yes, your door panels were butchered and yours is a very rare one of only 11,000 built factory V8 cars . mine too is an H code 304 car. You can make those 304s pretty peppy. Also the hoods unfortunately have the same problem square body Chevy trucks from 1973 to 1980 have. They like the bow in the middle. . I would join an AMC forum to get more information on these cars. We AMCers are hard-core bunch so I’m sure there will be a lot of people in our world that will help you..
@@SladeM. thanks for watching and commenting! This is the most information I have gotten yet about this car! I have requested to join a few amc groups on Facebook as I’m sure I’ll have some questions.
That intake is 3500 to 7500 RPM. Not great on the 304...unless you want a high RPM screamer. I'd try to get either a Performer for it or an RPM Air Gap. As for the trans, you can take a T5 from a Mustang (88-93) and put that in. Should bolt right up to the bellhousing. Just make sure it's a world class unit from a V8 Mustang. For the clutch, use something like a 79 Jeep CJ5. That will get you the right one.
well, where's part 3 or the next one.. I'm waiting to see if it's a bomb or bust... Gremlin's suck and Pacer's too (fugly) but more better than those damb blasted NoGo's Omega's.. Will she drive again... doubt it jk hurry up already.. this video is from 5mo's ago.. we're not getting any younger, Dang.

What I know about gremlins is that it's rare to find a solid one, and that you can fit a v8 in them pretty easy, that because they are light weight, they make fantastic sleeper builds, like the little Novas, Falcons, Fox bodies etc! And because they're an actual dodge product, a hemi swap in one isnt weird, they also make badass drag cars if you're willing to cut them up a little, I personally wish i still had my AMC hornet station wagon, I would make a hella sleeper stock drag car out of if I still had it! That's about all I know! If I had that I would probably put a aftermarket front and rear end suspension in it, a 5 speed with 12 bolt posi, put some fatties on the back and front with 5 slots, and throw a hemi out of an early model new school charger in it! Buff and wax the hell outta everything, tint the hell outta the windows, open the hood up to get air through that scoop, maybe put some silver pin striping on the lines! And then drive the hell outta it while slowly working on interior upgrades with probably a bad ass system and maybe even put a sunroof professionally in it! And maybe even go as far as talking to a custom guy about bumper deletes and a small wide body kit for it! Which definitely would make a one of a kind, rare, badass ride that could smoke alot of things on or off the street if built and tuned right! 😂👍
The car exploding was hilarious I didn't see it coming 😅
I’d do a Trailblazer inline 6 with a turbo in that, sweet ride!
I'd keep that motor, the car deserves to be as original as possible. Hell,I'm leaving the 262 v8 in my 75 Nova! Decent mileage, and plenty of power to daily.
Definitely more AMC content. Throw a inexpensive four barrel on it while you are at it. You need some manufacture sponsors! 😊

My uncle is in the process of swapping a 392 hemi in a 75 Gremlin. In the process means it's been going on since 2017 🫣 . Best of luck 👍
Morning! I just turned in. Ready to see if you're going to get the Gremlin running.

At least it's a V8, stick with disc brakes- good starting point
Sweet! That's an awesome find
Thanks Mike! Glad you enjoyed it! I think it’s a pretty neat little car
I believe that is a gremlin X car. One thing I know is they love to smoke the tires off. Love your Chanel and hope you guys keep up the great work.
X was just was a trim package. You could’ve had a six-cylinder or V-8 from 72 through 76 with a gremlin X package.
Slade, thanks for letting me know, all these years I thought they were all V-8 cars. 👍👍👍
Love watching your videos you are a blast to watch can't wait to see it running
Scared the shiet out of me😂 when he plugged the battery 😂😂
Really appreciate the video
Looks like Mike Damone's car from Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

It's a 50 year old car starting to do 50 year car stuff. 🤣. Awesomeness
They are really squirrely with a high horsepower engine
Someone's probably posted this already, but the first door card is from a '70s Triumph Spitfire.....

Thankfully its a gremlin those cinder blocks wouldn't have held😂
Take the headers off sorce original manifolds, or deal with exhaust leaks forever..😮
save the gremlins !!!!!!!
Hey! Do you want to sell that Gremlin bench seat?? Let me know!
V8 Gremmy: When you put your race motor in your Nova, use the 307 you take out & install it in the gremmy,

AMC big block immediately and a blower
AMC never made a big block. But a 360 or 401 would fit directly in there.
