something I've found really helpful is a balance board, if you don't have one, I can recommend the Amazon Bascis one. I've been using it for about a year now and my feet, ankles, calves are far more resilient. I just balance one footed for 3 mins on each foot 3 or 4 times a week. It took a bit of time to build up to 3 mins.
Hope you’re doing ok, and glad you’ve got a plan moving forward. Keep the content coming.
Hi Billy, thanks buddy I’m doing just fine and feel very relaxed about things. I’ll do my best to make some relevant content. Cheers mate
A new subscriber here, Stevo. I truly love your channel because your contents are so real. You show exactly what amateur runners like me get through. Also, I truly apprecuate your truthful feelings and opinions on running. I will binge watch your channel over the weekend. Keep up a great. work.
Hey! Thank you so much for your lovely comment! Running is not an easy sport to navigate through and injuries is just part of the process. All the best to you in your journey too 👍🏼
Day 3 here, I’ve been eating butter and drinking water non stop. I’m also a Carnivore so I think that has reallllly helped my withdrawal symptoms to be so bad.
I use Altras and they've really helped my foot / knee problems. Good luck with them. Sorry to hear about your injuries, I've suffered something similar and it's really frustrating. Sure you'll come back stronger!
Hey that’s good to hear they’ve helped you out! Fills me with confidence. Hopefully you can navigate through your injury too and come back stronger. All the best mate
I love my Altras. I don't think they're ugly! It is true to say, however, that I have never had a white pair :)
That’s good Henry, maybe it’s just mine that are ugly as i would have chose the ones with the best discount on them 😂. Very comfy though
Great to see you taking this positive approach to another setback mate. I'm sure it'll pay off in the long run. Would be good to hear how things are progressing as you work through it. Best of luck 👍🏻
I had the same injury for 13 months, was OK for 2 months but now it's started to come back. I have high arched feet. Did your physio suggest the Altras?
Hi, I’m sorry to hear it’s creeping back in, it’s such an annoying injury. I was suggested by a physio to work into Altras but that was when it was just a niggle pain. The reason I’m going to them is I do have weak feet, my toes aren’t very mobile and I think my calves are weak too so these should benefit me eventually. My arches are flat though where yours are high so I can’t say whether they will be good for you or not. They may not be for me yet but it’s worth a shot. I’ve been told to work on my form over this time as something will be off but I’ve got scans booked in and will get more advice then. It’s slow on the NHS though
@@StevoRuns I hope it works for you. Being injured sucks.
@SharaRuns it sure does. I hope yours comes good too. All the best
Mate, you will get there, good idea keep fit build your core. As you say you have a plan so all good. Got to maintain mental heath as well as can be a downer when you get a knock back but it will turn out good mate.
Cheers Sean. All positive here buddy! I’ll be with you for an ultra next year mate 👍🏼
Sorry to see this. Looking forward to seeing more content, this is one of the most relatable channels.
Sorry for the delay. Thank you James, I do seem to have more issues than most but will always show the good times and the bad. I’ve still got a lot of learning to do clearly as I’m laid off now still with the ankle problem. Back to the drawing board!
@@StevoRuns you’ve gotta take the time off you need. Don’t stress about getting back too soon. Health is most important.
I domt like part with the shoe next to the pillow, at all.
😂 okay. And I lived to tell the tale, thankfully.
@@StevoRuns why would you do that mate?
@@karmella5606 I wasn’t exactly thinking just recording and talking. Someone mentioned it straight away and they were cleaned. No biggie. Hope you found something positive from the vid. Thanks
@@StevoRuns Sure mate, all I do is running, one of the most positive habit in my life 👍 Just keep up and best of luck.
The crash in the afternoon, you may wanna take a closer look at your diet ! Im on day 6 and also crash after lunch hahaha i guess i have to face reality. The food i eat may not be great.
Sorry to hear this mate! 🙁maybe it’s happened for a reason, I’m sure you will come back stronger 💪
That's a shame, but a wise decision, playing the long game is the right attitude.
Really disappointing... Most runners have been in a similar position and had to pull out of races. Hope you can come back, that Miler distance is a whole new ball game
Yes that’s true mate, was really looking forward to challenging myself but there’s plenty of time to get them done once I’m fixed up!
Your only human mate, keep your head up and move forward
Sorry to hear this mate. Just wasn't to be this time. Onwards and upwards 👍🏻 Speedy recovery fella.
Hard luck, Stevo. When you have recovered and you’re up for racing again, consider starting with shorter ones and working up to the ultras you have been aiming for. They are not for all of us. Nail a half, then a marathon and then see where you are. Keep us up to date. Videos about your experience of dealing with setbacks are very useful to everyone.
Wise words as always, Henry. I’ll be sure to build up slowly after strengthening even though that’s what I feel i did this time but I obviously need to be stronger still whilst not running and aggravating any niggles further. Time for the bike for a while for cardio I think. Thanks
Gutted for you though thought there was a good chance of this. Right decision. I might put my name in for it next year.
Was kidding myself hoping it was going away mate, wasn’t to be. Please think about next years one mate I would love to run round that with you if you fancied it or just to see you at the start if you prefer to run alone. See how things go 👍🏼
Argh no, I’m gutted for you. You’re making the right decision to bow out beforehand.
gutted for you, but probably a wise decision. God luck on your revovery. 🤞💪
I'm doing race to the king too!! Good luck on Saturday 😊
Hey, good luck to you too. Unfortunately, my tendonitis has played up massively after this run and am touch and go for Saturday. All the best to you though and hopefully I will be there too 🤞🏼
Thanks for the helpful information
Unreal mate, great vid as usual, what editing software do you use for your vids n thumbnails? Looking great mate 🙌🙌🙌
Cheers Kurt. I’m still paying the price for this run though my ankle tendinitis went to new levels after this one haha. I use the insta360 X2 camera and InShot for editing vids and thumbnails
Good info. The slosh and the clean. Thanks 🏃♂️👍
I am day 2! I feel like I am on the verge of tears and feel hopeless. My back, neck, and head are also achey. I have terrible head pressure and what feels like migraine auras. I am having a hard time discerning if it’s my autoimmune problems or the caffeine withdrawal. It’s so rough!
I’m sorry you feel so rough! It’s horrible for most but maybe even more so for you with other health issues alongside it. After tomorrow, hopefully it will all start to ease. When the headaches and pressure goes away it all becomes a lot easier! Keep going if you can! All the best
@@StevoRunsThanks for the encouragement! Day 3 has been much better. My mood is stabilizing, but the body aches remain. Caffeine withdrawal is no joke!!
Just happened to me 2 days ago. Your vid is very helpful thanks
Sorry to hear that mate. It hurts a lot doesn’t it! I hope this could be helpful to you
Great running! I love seeing people do shit like this! 🎉
Cheers man. It was tough run so next weeks race is gonna be brutal.
Amazing work! Am also doing 100km RTTK this year and did my last long run yesterday, thank you for talking about the random ankle twangs! Have something v similar on my knee:) See you on the 15th!
Thank you Helen! I hope your training has gone to plan. Come and say hello if you see my camera sticking up in the air 😂 all the best, see you next week!
Another amazing video! 🙌 you are doing amazing mate! 👍
Thanks a lot mate. To be honest this run has really hurt my ankle, not whilst running but the day after my tendonitis that I’m always managing has flared up badly. I’m so hoping it goes away in the next couple of days but i haven’t been able to run since. It’s so hard for me to get training right with my flat feet it’s a nightmare and stresses me out a lot. Let’s hope it fades out like it usually does! Hope your running is all going to plan 👍🏼
@@StevoRuns sorry to hear that mate, hopefully the tendinitis calms down 🙂 I assume your trainers help support your feet? When my old injuries flare up it stresses me out as well because I do S+C everyday and do everything to help my body to keep going so I feel your pain! Your do everything you can mate! All 👍 at the moment, will be just ticking over until I start training for the great north run 🙂
@michaeltownsend5981 glad to hear it’s going well mate, i didn’t get in the ballot for great north run, probably for the best actually 😂. Yes I’ve been wearing orthotics and took good advice about footwear and exercises etc but when reach higher milage it starts to play up. I’ll sort it somehow. Cheers buddy 👍🏼
@@StevoRuns thank you mate! And I got a charity spot as probably wouldn’t get a ballot spot 🙂
168bpm
Nice run stevo ! Stevo this coming fall when weather gets colder and I start marathon road training would u recommend I run up 24-25 mile Long run to get ready for road marathon March 2025? As long as I do it at easy pace? Low heart rate ? Last year only worked up 21-22 and still hit wall might started race to fast. U think it’s ok do 1 25 miler get ready for road marathon ?
Cheers mate. Yes I personally think it’s fine to go for 24 when the time is right before your marathon. As long as you’ve built up it well and it’s not randomly thrown in, which I’m sure you know already. Just be careful it doesn’t do more harm than good and think about how long it takes to recover from them! This 30 miler, even though it was in my plan, is taking some getting over! My ankles really painful and muscles hurt for days after, I haven’t run since Monday and it’s stressing me out. so go with what feels right at the right time. All the best
thank you Stevo!
I'm on day 4 without it. First two days was awful awful, I had really bad nausea, acidity, palpitations, blood pressure was up.. and the worst part was my anxiety. I felt the worst. At first I thought it was just plain anxiety so I went to the emergency room at 9pm on day2 to get checked and to ask for medicine. When the doctor asked me if I drink coffee, that's the only time I was able to connect it all together. Anyway, he gave me Omeprazole for the stomach acidity and propranolol for the palpitations. The medicine worked but I'm not out of the woods yet because my anxiety is still there and sometimes I would get chills and still retch. I hope this gets better soon TT
Ah man, that’s some severe reaction to quitting! At least it’s an eye opener to what caffeine is maybe causing and you will feel so much better once this all passes. I hope that’s soon for you! Good luck
Really impressive, looked a great route!
Really positive stuff Stevo mate, your doing really well. Heard you say you don’t feel much physical difference, but you’ve definitely improved your will power and mental strength by making smart choices and not giving in to temptation 👏🏼
Wow 30 mile training run! That's an awesome effort Stevo. Wishing you all the best for your 100k ultra & looking forward to that video. Keep up the great work 💪
Cheers Kev it was a tough one, I’ve needed some recovery days after that one.
Good luck with the 100K, I've also got my first 100k coming up soon. I sign up for 50K races to tune up for the longer ones, I find that it really helps with motivation having smaller events in the calendar, and it's much more enjoyable to do a 50K with others & having aid stations is a huge plus. I strongly recommend it for next time, and there will be a next time :)
Thank you Nigel. Yes a 50k race would have been ideal to be honest, I didn’t think of that at the time and it’s come round a bit quick. As you say, next time! All the best with yours too mate I hope it goes well for you 👍🏼
Tysm!!! I’m going to boot camp today and I didn’t know how to use it 😭
Sounds like you’re right on track. I’m looking forward to the video where you say “why do people even do this?” at 75km in 😂 Good luck!
That’s 100% gonna happen 🤣
New(ish) subscriber and new runner here. Really enjoying following your progress.
Hi James, cheers for that mate. I hope you’re enjoying running? People seem to really get into it when you find a good rhythm and do it for long enough that it becomes part of your weekly routine. All the best
Great work on the long run, sounds like you've got everything sorted. Try to break up the race into aid stations/check points, it's mentally easier than worrying about "the next 5km" than the next 90km. Also, great to see you running with your pack fully loaded, those things get far heavier than you'd think hahha I usually average about a 3.5kg (7.7lb) pack, fully loaded, for anything more than 50k. Water is a big problem for me, so it's something I always carry a lot of and refill the most. Hope your body gets you to the start line, that's always the hardest part :)
Thanks Ashley. That’s a good shout focussing on the next aid station rather than counting down the miles. Do you have a water bladder on for the race or will 2x 500ml bottles be ok to keep refilling? Would be good to be the weight down. Cheers
@@StevoRunsI use both cos I've run out of water in almost all of my ultras. You can always dump the water if you don't need it
How are doing buddy?
All good mate thank you. Still off the caffeine except I have decaf now and do not have any old symptoms at all. Game changer! Been a few years now
@@StevoRuns cheers! Did not check if you uploaded an update video about your caffeine-free life! Inspiring to hear that you have been off caffeine for years. I relapsed last 2 days go( a friend bought me a coffee from mcdonald’s) I felt so high that day, but the day afer I was depressed and what not. Will find my way back to caffeine free life! Thanks for the update mate!
@@AhmedPuno it happens sometimes buddy, I took my daughter to Starbucks for a treat last week and couldn’t remember if I said decaf for my Americano, turns out I didn’t and I was buzzing for hours 😂, I just jump straight back to no caffeine but I know it’s easier said than done. I will do a life without caffeine video soon, good shout. Keep going mate you can do it!
Well done mate.
Cheers Sean, body is feeling that one this morning.
Hi Steve great effort firstly for completing your longest run. What is your running schedule for the next 2weeks before the 100K run ?(presumably to rest first after that 30 miler)
Hi! Thank you very much. The plan has me tapering now, doing 40 miles total this week in 5 runs, one being fast, long run 16 miles. Next week, 30 miles with 2 being fast, long run 10-12 miles. The week of the race has 9-12 miles all easy then race. I’ll be resting after this and will play it by ear with some easy runs this week. I want to get to the start line as fresh as possible but will pluck sessions from the plan if I’m feeling good on the day. Cheers
Looking strong, Stevo 💪 Get that food sorted and you'll be golden. I had to turn the volume up to 11 to hear the audio on my phone this time, not sure if it's just a quieter video.
Cheers Mark, the audio isn’t as good as the gopro I’ll look into a mic setup or just shout the whole video if need be, it’s a pain.
Congrats may friend I am veteran in Brasil marathon in 3 08 56 , 70 years old and 22 :30 in 5km
That’s a brilliant time sir, very well done!
Standard procedure to take running gear on holiday 😂
Gotta be done ain’t it mate 😂
Also you’re not boring! Nothing more amazing than running a beautiful trail with stunning views 😊
Thanks a lot Michael. Yeah no regrets so far mate, let’s see what happens from here 👊🏼
Another great video mate! Great achievement 🎉 it’s great to run something similar to the course get get an eye opener! You will smash it 💪 I’m sure you will enjoy it 🙂
Training has been going really well for me. Then last Friday I went out and had way to many drinks which ruined my Saturday, I couldn't run and my sund8 run suffered too.
Glad to hear trainings going well! A heavy night throws you right off temporarily doesn’t it. My HRV and everything is knackered for a 2-3 days. All good fun at the time though ayy
I effectively stopped drinking on 1st Jan 2021. It was relatively difficult at first but over time got easier. Now I can't say I miss it at all. I'm not totally teetotal, I'll have a glass of fizz to join in a cheers at a celebration, but I'll only have the one and I reckon that happens maybe 2 or 3 times a year. I'm perfectly happy with a non alcoholic beer, it means I can sit and have a pint with mates, I actually don't really like the taste of normal beer anymore. The benefits, in my opinion, are well worth it. I never have hangovers or that hazy feeling on a morning, getting to and from places is great as I can drive and don't have to bother with cabs etc, I sleep better and I generally feel better in myself. Glad it's going well for you Stevo!
Cheers Chris and good for you for doing it too for these last few years. I’ll probably be like that too as I’m not in fear of going fully back to how I was, so a toast drink etc would be quite nice here and there. I definitely love Sundays more now!
