God I love that road. Just the best flow.
Car sounds amazing. Stock exhaust stock tune?? I'm ordering a 2025 Cayman GTS 4.0 next week in GT silver, Carrera sport wheels. It may end up being the last NA flat 6 ICE powered Cayman, before they Electrify it.😢
Thanks! The car has a soul Over Axel Pipe and valve controller. The valves are open during this run even below 3500 rpm as a result. There are many videos with the stock exhaust on the channel too. We even have a video comparing the exhaust before and after the mod.
Cop just sitting there on someone's private property...smh. Nice video!
@@kevinw6282 thanks for watching - appreciate it!
My wife and I used to go hiking a lot starting from Lake Winfield Scott. I can't wait to get up there in the Cayman. BTW - it is pronounced Soo-chez ;)
Thanks for the comment and for the tip on pronouncing Suches correctly! Good to know.
That road has some serious flow. The STi's gearing advantage is very apparent. It's too bad our Porsches can't say the same.
The STi is shifting into 3rd more often and who doesn’t like to row the gears. I think the ratios are shorter on the new 911 ST - but maybe that doesn’t fall into the budget? Not in ours - that’s for sure.
I wonder what they will be like together in the wet
Good question! Probably have some footage of that somewhere in the can. Will check it out and see how it looks. I wonder if the AWD would be a game changer?
Fantastic videos, wouldn’t mind if they were even longer and unedited!
@@luther_pm5746 thanks for the comment. We do have a sister channel with longer videos and less edits. Check out the channel page for a link. Not a ton of vids there yet - but there is some good stuff. Happy Thanksgiving!
I like your videos. The added info pop ups is nice. The split screen on this one was very cool. Keep them coming What walkie talkies do you use?
Thanks - we have Midland rechargeable handhelds. Available on Amazon - two for around $80 or so if I recall. By the way - there are several of our earlier videos that feature the split screen. Glad you like it!
I'm from Maine - "she's ah screamah!" Verrrry nice whip. Keep'er between the lines brothah! 🚘
Favorite road in Maine?
@trueview3127 Ya, man, one that is somewhat local, rural, and scenic. Rt 117 out of Norway/Penneseewassee (yup) Lake to rt. 35 in Harrison/Long Lake to rt. 37 to rt. 118 East Waterford. West to rt.5 all the way to Fryburg and the New Hampshire border. Major back roads/twistys/straights and very few if any cops. A few townships and 35mph zones along the way, but man... you can stretch out and get some heel & toe along the way. Cheers, brothah.
@ thanks for the recommendations. Will add to our map!
Gawdayamn, I love these vids! Thx so much for bringing us along. I've got a modded '17 MVII GTI with Stage-1+ tune, stage-2 clutch with recent Bilstein suspension upgrades and APR shift kit. Man... I'd love to run with u guys. I really respect your driving skills. Keep'er between the lines, people! 🚘
Sounds like a great car! Appreciate the comment - shoot us an email at trueviewdriving@gmail.com to get on a mailing list for any future group drives we organize.
Owned a 2015 STI and then a 981 Boxster back to back, the STI absolutely does not compare. I'll argue this till death lol
well the sport compact/hot hatch segment will always be compromised, but they still do a damn good job of keeping up and providing a fun driving experience. I've never driven a Porsche, but i own a '19 Type-R and anytime i think about moving on from it a Porsche is the only place i can think of going to get a "better" experience.
I mean…you’re both driving at like 7/10ths…would not expect any car to pull on any car…
Thanks for watching and commenting! That’s really the idea here. At reasonable limits on a public road - many performance cars with good tires are very similar - Cheers.
Great stuff…nothing beats a nice scenic road with a side of manual. No ‘loser” in this battle, simply enjoy these moments in life.
Nailed it! Great road, great friends, good times.
seriously, i love this series. wish i could get off the grid in the north and join them. definitely helping me map future vacations though.
@@dasmg it’s always tough to get away for these trips, but so worth it. Glad you found our map and Google sheet listing all the roads with links to the videos! Cheers.
@joerade "With a side of manual." Love it, dude. Gonna get some "mileage" outta that one. Keep'er between the lines brothah! 🚘
@@trueview3127 one day i'll get the Type-R out there! thanks for keeping me and others inspired to get on these roads as well.
My 2019 STI is the best handling car I’ve ever owned. Grips like a 911.
Sounds like a nice machine! Stay safe and see you out there!
Did this drive yesterday and then wolf pen gap- had the roads completely to myself, then b Russell, neels gap. The best roads in N Ga.
Great time of year for a drive in those great roads! Nice link up!
Fun road with great scenery. Nice!
Great flow and surprise - a patrol in Suches as per the usual!
I owned a 2016 STI. It doesn't surprise me that it can keep up with the Caymans, especially after a tune. The stock suspension is pretty stiff and already great for smooth B-roads.
It was a nice spirited follow up a great backroad. The low end torque from the Turbo on the STi really pulls!
Good fun! The split screen view is great to watch. And that flat 6 cayman sounds awesome. 😎
It sure is a sweet melody - that’s for sure.
Fantastic, as usual.
Thanks for watching and commenting! Have a great holiday!
Love the real backroad - Head to Head "test". Cool split screen segment too. Definitely won't be late for dinner in either of these cars!
Definitely going to get there on time - just make sure to pack the food you bring along tightly!
This video just makes me smile the entire time. Porsche make the best sounding engines
Play some of that old time flat six rock n roll! Thanks for the comment
I would be interested in what you think of the back roads used in Porsche Palooza (driving the Ozarks). I attended for the first time this year and found it to be incredible. I have tracked my cars in over 70 HPDE (MSR Houston, MSR Cresson, Eagle's Canyon, TWS, & COTA) and found the Ozark back roads just as thrilling.
We have the Ozarks on our tick list but haven’t been yet. If you check out our map showing the roads we’ve driven and hope to drive - see channel page - let us know if we have your favorite roads out there marked?
Thanks for the tips in recording, very helpful!
Glad you checked those out! Cheers
Thank you, Gents, for doing what you do and bringing us along for the ride!
Thanks for jumping aboard with us!
Really digging the content! I saw you had some Utah roads on your map and wanted to say, if you ever decide to come out this way (Salt Lake City area), let me know! Would love to link up and go for a drive. Cheers! -Gavin
Looks like some great roads out there and eventually - life’s responsibilities willing - we will make it out. When we do - we will look you up. So - what roads did we miss out there? Any of your favs you didn’t see marked?
@trueview3127 There are quite a few! Unfortunately, many of them are fairly... Discovered. Nebo Loop is personally a favorite of mine.
I am taking delivery of my Gentian GTS tomorrow. This road is a little over an hour from me - I hope I can resist the temptation long enough to get through the break-in period...
Congratulations! That’s going to be a tough wait for sure! Enjoy the break in and relish it when you can release the full RPMs
I Thot Ed’s favorite road was the one to the barely running exotics junkyard!
True enough. Then turn around and run this one in the salvaged Lambo!
Looks like a cool road to incorporate on my way this year to do track day at Road Atlanta!!
Highly recommend! Enjoy the track day
hydroplane, 100%
One of my favorite roads! It’s hard to beat the sound of a Porsche flat 6. I’m really enjoying this series.
So glad to have you aboard! Thanks for the comment.
ah I love this topic. Subscribing. I'll say this road is a bit too wide open for me (long sweeping curves). Yes, very fun but also more dangerous in terms of getting a ticket or getting into an accident. I prefer the much tighter back-roads where it's difficult to really exceed 55mph and also less likely to result in a fatal crash.
Glad that you've joined the Trueview crew! Plenty of tight and twisty stuff on the channel too - please enjoy our back videos and let me know which road is more your style? Definitely check out the VA-80 video if you like twisty roads. ruclips.net/video/FcWC1s3sQiE/видео.htmlsi=f7pP0f4SnuEqWem6
I never can get a clean run on that road and the passing options aren't great.
Truth be told, we've had to wait for gaps during our uphill runs (including when shooting this video) to get a clean run and agree there are no passing options at all. Its worth the wait if you can find a gap in traffic.
Great list. I graduated from UT Knoxville, so I know the Dragon all-too-well, as well as lots of your other listed roads. The Dragon is still my fav only because of the frenetic pace of shifting - no stretches of road on which to relax a bit. LOVE IT in my manual 911. I have to say, Back of the Dragon was a disappointment. I took it in my CT5-V manual Blackwing in September ‘24. The road surface was pretty awful, with potholes and broken edges, and lots of gravel and pieces of broken tarmac everywhere. Sketchy for those on two wheels.
Thanks for the comment and analysis about what makes a road great for you. Agree that the frenetic pace of shifting on 129 keeps you super engaged! As for the Back of The Dragon - it is a much more raw experience, especially now that 129 has new pavement. Hoping that VA will pave 16 soon to smooth it out! A Blackwing on the BOD would almost fill the lane for a lot of it! Yikes.
Video editing is amazing
Appreciate the compliment and glad you are enjoying the channel
I slid my right half off the road and side swiped the small ditch a little ways after the first overlook (Walker mountain) driving north. Car was fine except for assorted scrapes across the lower side (now it looks like i drive against curbs lol), a small crack in the front fender and the dismemberment of the front lip. It happened in those tight repeated bends, I wasn't going fast but I knew as soon as I rounded the corner and saw how sharp it was. The curve was much closer, sharper, steeper than anticipated, and to boot it was especially shaded so the corner itself was damp compared to the rest. I was spoiled (rightfully) by other roads having plentiful warning signs, this caught me off guard too. I slowed before hitting the curve, let off the brake, took the curve only sliding near the end of it. Went to a local body shop for an inspection, the owner was great and also told me that road is quite notorious for damage. This was all after my tour driving six gap, 129 + dragon in the rain, then 28. All things considered I got extremely lucky, but I do wonder if I shouldve handled that situation differently? Ill be back one day, but its definitely the most dangerous road I've driven. If its going to carry the "dragon" name, it should be clearly labeled as the evil brother.... or maybe Im biased because I haven't seen the rest.
Love the detail in your comment. Thanks for taking the time to tell your story. The story you tell about being the corner being just a bit tighter, and steeper, and more slippery than expected is probably what gets most people that go off - caught out. Doubt that many people are bombing through the TOD if they don't have experience with that sort of thing, but in some ways, it is the experience that can catch you out. We've had some close calls lately where the road was wet when we didn't expect it due to a rain storm on the other side of a mountain. The water had almost evaporated off the road. It looked like normal dry pavement, but it wasn't. Fortunately, no harm done . . . but lesson learned. The trick is to remember these lessons the next time you get a clean run and the road calls you to push forward that much harder. Stay safe out there!
That just may be my favorite road as well. Mainly because it's the most familiar to me. I'm in that region once per year with my car club, and somehow always end up on it.
Not to be missed - that’s for sure. Any others you enjoy that we need to consider for future missions?
Well this channel and initiative is just awesome. This is exactly what I need for my ATL based 981
Glad you found us! Welcome aboard and enjoy the ride. Favorite road down there for you?
I was hoping you guys would do this one. It’s been my favorite since I got an M235i back in 2016. It’s the closest good road to Athens where I ironically work at Richard B. Russell Research Center. It was my go to during the pandemic too. I’ve only taken my 2016 981 up there once since I got it, but I’ll be up there as soon as I can break free. Perfect road and your footage really does it justice. I’ve done the Blood Mountain, Cherahola skyway and the tail of the dragon in the M235i, and I believe you’ve ranked them correctly. Cherohola was a real find. While the tail of the dragon was tight and overcrowded, I had the whole skyway to myself. My wife and I swapped out timed runs. And yes, she’s faster than I am. I can’t wait for us to get the 981 with sport chrono up there!
Very cool comment. You will have to let us know which car works best on which road? That 235i is a rocked ship though I am sure. I bet it really loved the skyway and 348. Maybe less live for the dragon. By the way - sounds like your wife is a keeper for sure!👍
The M235iis really fast. In fact I stopped using the Dinan chip because it just wasn’t necessary much faster than my 981 and with very little turbo lag it really digs out off the line or anytime you need power. The 981 is more work but drives like a real sports car. Yes, she’s a keeper.
noice, what mods do you have on the GTS?
In this video - it had the Soul Valve Controller. In some of the later videos - I added the Soul resonated OAPs. The exhaust is stock PSE in this video- with the valves open full time thanks to the valve controller.
Gorgeous country. Thanks.
Sure is - the spring flowering trees were on full display near the high point on the ridge. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Great sound! where's the red Cayman (my favorite)?
A few glimpses in the rear view! But there will be vids of every car in line on this or our sister channel soon! Look for those.
@@trueview3127 LOL Jon. It's me, just trolling you from FL.
Oh - I knew that - but you know the Red Cayman does offer some amazing moments. Just wish you had recorded the LEO encounter on the Dragon!
Fantastic. Definitely happening in spring.
Have to see you there!
@ Also, I will have my gopro. Learning now. From your videos. Doing trial and error. Posting sh*tty stuff on my channel. Hopefully will get a tad more skillful by spring. 😂
It sure is a journey. This vid was shot in GP log with spot meters. Not sure I am a fan of the effort it takes to get it to look good - but very clear when you get it right.
Spring? RBR is good anytime it’s not wet or frozen!
@ I will not have time before spring.
348/RBR highway is right up there with the very best. One of my all time favorites! If I must nitpick, I wish the western slope had a few more curves to match the eastern side. But that’s a bit like wishing chocolate chip brownie chunk ice cream had more chocolate in it! This is one to run east to west!
A true first world issue - which direction I prefer to drive this road in a a Porsche - that said I fully agree that tackling the s curves on the way uphill is satisfying and perhaps a bit safer than bombing it downhill - but somebody has to do it.
Definitely most fun running west direction with tightest curves uphill.
Ed knows how to pick a road! Love the 4K footage and the ICE soundtrack. Music for my soul.
Big screen with headphones for the full experience!
Try the Dragon Slayer Hwy 160, Appalachia VA to Lynch KY
Picking up my 2025 allocation tomorrow (manual gear box). What protocol did you use? Is it from the user manual for the car? I’m seeing mostly 1000 mile break ins online so am interested to see where you got 2k from? Thanks and enjoy!
@@mangomaniac95 the user manual for the car recommends 2k miles. This is not consistent from country to country it seems. After seeing all the comments on this video - had I to do it over - I would have gone with the break in recommended on rennlist which I recall was 500 miles or so. Enjoy the car! Did you sleep last night?
Do you have stock, Porsche sport, or aftermarket exhaust?
@@RoyRathbun-m1b the car has a Porsche Sport Exhaust with the Soul Resonated OAP and valve controller.
Tough road. Looks like a lot of fun but a lot of it best done on a 300lb supermoto bike. Thanks for giving an overview of your setup. Looking forward to you eventually heading north.
Had the same thought about the bike being a better choice on the high ridge section! We can’t wait to reach further either!
Love these videos and can’t wait to pick up my GTS 4.0 allocation in a few days. I usually stayed in 2nd and avoided downshifting to 1st given 2nd usually has the low end torque I need to accelerate on the track (however it depends on the car)
Thanks for the comment! On some of the hairpins we come across, you'll want to shift into 1st to help the car dig out of the corner. However - with all the low end torque (as you point out) - it really isn't needed - and I doubt its faster when compared to not shifting. That said - it was / is pretty fun. Thanks again for the comment!
@@trueview3127 Ah good point. I look forward to testing mine out. I am in the west in Arizona so we don’t get these beautiful fall colors. Looking forward to watching (and listening) to future videos!
Really fun to watch! Looking forward to picking up my allocation in a few days. Seems we’re living in 2nd and 3rd gear mostly on these roads given the gear ratios of this car?
Thanks! Excited for you to pick up the new ride!! You'll have a great time getting to know what she can do. 2nd is good to a bit over 80 mph and 3rd to almost 110 mph. So, 4th gear isn't needed very often on the street - unless you short shift - which you should until you've got it broken in. Cheers.
