    Outstanding content! One i have to mention that i don't see on your list US 421 "The Snake". Its located between Mountain City TN and Holston Valley TN. One of my top roads as well as many others. Excellent flow and technical turns included. Its been paved several years ago. Local traffic understands the motor enthusiasts draw to the area with plenty of pull offs. Definitely worth the drive. Enjoy Shady Valley Country Store for a stretch.

    I was driving back from a road trip last year in January. I took the Cherohala Skyway to 129 (the Tail). It was like a 3-4 hr detour but it was so worth it. I think I saw like 3 other cars on the Skyway, and just a few on the Tail. One of the most enjoyable driving experiences I've had! Had ridden it in summer on a motorcycle but had never driven it. The Blue Ridge Mountains are an incredible place!

    I drove the cherohala the same day as the dragon 5 years ago or so, and enjoyed it far more. A great sweeping road with fantastic views, and I went on a weekday with little traffic. For the right type of car, it's a fantastic drive.

      The Skyway and Dragon are on the opposite ends of the types of roads enthusiasts generally enjoy. Dragon - tight and twisty as the come (well almost - see our video on VA-80) and the Skyway Flowing Sweepers. What a great day to do them together.

    Pretty cool road & drive. Thanks for sharing. " Low on fuel we press on". Rut Roh.
    Next nearest fuel stop 22 miles away, estimated fuel reserve left 20 miles. Living on the edge matters.
    Being in a state park, not any side roads or driveways pull outs to worry about.
    Other road hazards to be concerned with - wildlife intrusions. Wild turkeys, deer, the occasion groundhog.
    Bumper cam view road level - down at asphalt pavement level is intoxicating.

    • @trueview3127
      @trueview3127  2 месяца назад

      What a great and thoughtful comment - definitely fuel up before heading onto the Skyway since you won't be finding fuel anywhere up there should you need to turn around! As for the other hazards you point out - we've seen the all - deer being the most frequent and frankly dangerous. You'll see how close they came come in a future episode in West Virginia! Thanks Again!

    New video = instant bliss. The Skyway is pretty spectacular. It can be frustrating at times if you get stuck behind traffic on the climb up to the ridge section or the descent back down. But man, catch a clean run on a dry day and it’s pretty tough to beat. Cool shot from the top of the car!

    • @trueview3127
      @trueview3127  2 месяца назад

      50/50 on the way up the twisty sections onto the ridge that you get stuck in a long que. It is a tourist road so there are many that drive slow and look around. Wait at the first pull off for the road to clear if this happens and let er rip.

  • @robertlabarca9488

    One of my favorites, I've driven this road more times than I can remember. And if you haven't done it already, do the complete loop that puts you back on US 129 by the lake just north of the Dragon. The biggest part of the loop is TN 360 that you pick up in Tellico Plains. A great sweeping rural road! Getting back to the Skyway, tell me what you might know about this: up near the ridge in NC, as you approach the TN border, there are two sets of poles that look kind of like gallows, and hang out across the center of the road. I asked a local in Robbinsville about them once, and with a straight face and without hesitation, he told me that they are jumps that allow flying squirrels to leap across the road. Apparently they don't like running across the asphalt! Have you ever heard that, or was the guy BSing me?
    Keep 'em coming, Boys!

    • @trueview3127
      @trueview3127  2 месяца назад

      They are squirrel jumping poles - that is according to several sources I found online anyway. I haven’t seen any jumpers though but that would be an epic shot to get on the 360 cam - a squirrel flying above as we pass underneath!

    • @trueview3127
      @trueview3127  2 месяца назад

      Disclaimer on this - Obviously this wasn't a scientific test and everybody drives a bit differently, but since you asked - In our experience the Michelin PS4S tires hold up well, lasting for around 8-12k miles with this type of driving. The Pirelli P Zero N1's lasted around 7-8k miles with similar grip levels, the Continental Extreme contact sport's lasted around 8k miles and had slightly higher grip levels initially, but after around 4k miles the grip was reduced to a level at or slightly below the PS4S or Pirelli's.

    You should add the roads as a driving directions layer in the maps so the start/end points are more easily identifiable.

    • @trueview3127
      @trueview3127  2 месяца назад +1

      Cool idea - In looking into this - there seems to be a limit on the number of layers allowed on Google Maps which limits the number of directions that can be shown. We'll try to upgrade the map descriptions to include the directions of travel in the videos!

      It’s a formula one wheel key chain charm - since we fixed the GoPro positions this last trip - I was going for a “g-meter” type effect to show the cornering forces. I take your feedback as - it isn’t working for you! As for distractions - I don’t even notice it while driving since it’s on the passenger visor out of my view - focus is entirely on the road ahead.
