    I have driven both a 997 tip and a 991 PDK. Both were fun, but I prefer my 981 base with X73, headers, tune and PSE. It’s so much fun. I imagine similar mods on the 911 would be fun as well.

      Agree I have a base with X73 also lighter 20kg through wheels/ tyres and exhaust front adjustable LCA and rear toe adjustment. 718 rear rollbar brace plus Rennljne brace and it now has GT3 levels of handling on R spec rubber, without needing additional downforce. I think the X73 suspension is just perfect blend for road and track

      Just looked up the X73 - cool upgrade to the sport suspension. Will let my buddy with the 981 base know about it being an option.

    Probably not quite as fast but much more akin to surfing. Having owned both I would have to stick with the 997

    I own both a 911 C4S and Cayman S . I have kept them both for a very long time because I love Porsche variety and the different driving experience rear engine vs mid engine offers. The mid engine platform does nothing wrong making it a great handler. The rear engine weight and characteristics of the 997 911 keep you on your toes, which keeps things a bit more exciting at times. Both amazing cars and owning either one is a blessing.

    • @trueview3127
      @trueview3127  4 месяца назад

      I understand what you mean exactly! People say the C4S is best for winding roads when compared to the CS. Do you have any seat time in a CS to compare the two?

    • @qikqbn77
      @qikqbn77 4 месяца назад

      @@trueview3127 Yes, 100 percent. I have a lot of seat time in the base Carrera and Carrera S as well. The 2wd rear engine weight bias of the C2S definitely has the lightest weight layout over the front tires steering the car. This gives you the "purist 911" experience where the front end will wash out / understeer if you are too aggressive on corner entry, or come in too hot on very sharp turns. This can be scary if it catches you off guard. It will also wash out / understeer even more if you get on throttle too early mid corner, which essentially lightens the front end grip even more as the car transfers all the weight back under hard acceleration. Essentially popping a wheelie mid corner is not good either for grip. Hard Brake in a straight line before entering a corner and let the weight settle down on the front tires corner entry for best grip, be patient with throttle until after apex, then mash the pedal to get max acceleration coming out of the corner. That is the way to drive a 911 C2S. The C4S has an extra 100 lbs of weight over the front end and power to all 4 wheels. The extra weight and power on the front end makes a noticeable difference with front end grip throughout the corner, wet or dry, and you can be more aggressive with the throttle and get on the gas just a bit sooner on corner exit. You feel more confident tossing the 911 C4S into a corner with less worry of washing out, BUT, it is still a 911 and will understeer if too aggressive. It for sure is NOT the handling pro of a mid-engined Cayman/Boxster where you feel you can really toss it into a corner and play with the throttle throughout the apex. That is mid engine weight bias advantage, where there is even less worry of understeer during corner entry and mid-corner adjustments in the Cayman/Boxster Layout. 911's still have an advantage on corner exit with rear grip under throttle, where the Cayman/Boxster may spin that inner rear tire under acceleration on corner exit, the 911 just hunkers down, squats, and blasts out of the corner with minimal rear end grip loss. Like I said, Porsche variety is awesome. Different strokes for different folks. 👍🏼👍🏼

    I had a 718 Boxster GTS and traded it on a “like new” 997.2 C2S. The Boxster was definitely easier to drive on the limit but souded like a lawn mower. The 911 takes time and nerve to find the limit and is probably not as quick on the small roads in my area (I live in the Mont Ventoux area of Provence). The 911 is definitely better on a longer weekend trip and sounds awesome. When I decided to trade the Boxster I was interested in a 981 Cayman GTS but couldn’t find the right car, retrospectively it is probably the sweet spot between an older 911 and a newer 718.

    Love the Porsches but for me it’s hard to beat a Miata for pure driving bliss because you can drive it at 9/10ths and not be way over the legal limit. Racetrack… Porsche. North Carolina backroads… Miata Is Always The Answer.

    People love to smack talk the Cayman, until they struggle to catch one in a 911. Driving them back to back really showcases just how different they really are even though they share 75% of the same parts.

      They are so different and what’s amazing is how much, as you point out, they are also the same. Tuning a suspension is so nuanced and Porsche does it well. The cars have different personalities as a result. As always - appreciate it!

      The front rear weight distribution of 911 vs caymans is on 2-3%… that’s not major or game changing. The 981 cayman is pretty much identical in size to the 997 so they should feel similar (as a 997 owner I am biased 🙂)

    • @trueview3127
      @trueview3127  4 месяца назад +1

      You’re right on that they are almost identical in size - although the 997 is about 200 lbs heavier - and it’s all in the rear end! Thanks for joining the discussion!
