Hello Marc, looks like you and Lexi are paddling too fast for the internet to stream you in a crisp vision! Well done for organising to have a lake for your exclusive event 😂
Better luck next time I guess😆
Very well used canoe. I'm sure if it could talk, it would have some amazing stories to tell. Thanks for sharing!
Maybe we need a "canoe wisperer"😂 Thanks Andy✌️
Howdy Marc- that’s a neat old canoe. Too bad someone doesn’t restore it but I guess there’s no way to know who it belongs to. Take care and God bless
I filmed this last summer when I did a revisit to the old cabin. Once I got back home I did some reserch and found the trapper that held the permit had died. He had stopped trapping years ago. The old cabin will most likely fall in dissrepair, collaps under the snow load one winter and the old canoe will then be lost to time unfortunately! Thanks Paul✌️
@@OpenAirOutdoors Thank you for the information, Marc. It’s sad to see the old things slowly disappear. Blessings
When you said the old canoe was a tool, that got to me. Those words are so true, and not to many these days realize that. I'm guessing 100 years old.
I was thinking the 50's but a knowlegable subscriber is dating it possibly 20's 30's. One thing for sure is its old!! Thanks Kenny✌️
Sorry I missed this Marc. Got caught up doing electrical repairs to a 1948 3.3 HP Evinrude outboard that has been getting the better of me. Hoping to get it working and on my freighter canoe by next week. Audio came in nicely @1:37 and you hear your voice clearly @ 2:30 when you first spoke. Hope you had a good outing:)
No worries you didnt miss much😆
@@OpenAirOutdoorsDon’t sell yourself short. I am sure doing a live stream is difficult enough, let alone doing it on an actual stream or a lake in this case!
Pretty cool. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching Rod✌️
I have used and restored wood canvas canoes for a long time, mostly Chestnut Canoe Company canoes. That canoe looks like an old Chestnut Ogilvy with the close ribs, even the decks look like old Chestnut decks from the 20’s/30’s and those round headed slotted gunnel screws look like what Chestnut used before the “Robertson” square drives came into existence around the early 20’s. But, I could be all wrong too, I’m no expert. I don’t even think Chestnut made a 14’ Ogilvy, 16’ was the smallest. Anyway, that’s a nice restoration candidate if the fiberglass comes off without too much difficulty/damage to the planking. The nice thing about wood canvas canoes is you get to enjoy them during the warmer seasons and then perform maintenance during the off season, which can be very rewarding. I enjoy older gear so any time you can share your knowledge about use and maintenance I’ll be there. Thanks P.S.- Keewaydin Canoe Camp in Temagami still uses paddles to portage their wood canvas canoes.
Nice to know these old school methods are still being used by somebody! I looked the canoe closely for any tags or badges and there were none unfortunatly. Judging by the content in that old cabin that pointed at its use going back to possbly the 50's one can asume the old canoe is from the same era. Thanks for your insight Robin, you have a wealth of knowledge! See you again✌️
Wow my friend, that canoe must have some great stories from one or more beaver hunters. It was part of the life of someone who also lived in that cabin. Just as some people collect old cars, someone might also like that canoe and repair it for the pleasure of having it. I found the explanations you give about the use of oars and the way they rowed interesting. The best for you my great friend.
Yes someone years ago created memories with it and that old cabin! Much like your points in the desert👍 Thanks Coyote✌️
Thanks for sharing, Thumbs up 👍🏻
Thanks for the visit papa✌️
Love the old cedar strip boats. I grew up in my grandfather’s 16 foot cedar strip boat. Cool find Marc! Appreciate the close up look of this beauty Brother! 🍻
It's amazing how many people have great memories around cedar strip boats and canoes! An era gone to time now! Thanks Doug🍻
Nice to see this old beauty. I can sure appreciate its history and purposeful care and maintenance given its condition having had 2 cedarstrippers. My first canoe was a similar but newer 14 foot Huron model I got for 125 dollars in 1970. Same year I found an abandoned trappers canoe not far from the family cottage. It was in rough shape but my brother and I dragged out of the bush. My father replaced the gunwales, thwarts and seats, added a keel and fiberglassed it. Its a Tremblay and still in the family after selling the camp 3 years ago.
Awesome you saved it from destruction! Do yo ever take it out for the occasional paddle? Thanks Mark✌️
5 years ago I did. My brother has it now at his cottage. In 75 I used for 7 day canoe trip in Algonquin on Opeongo Lake to Big Crow lake. Was great for the big lake with the higher upswept bow and stern. Handled some good size waves I wouldnt touch today.
They still building cedar strip boats but not sure about the canoes . A huge shop in Powassan builds the boats.
Giesler Boats does build a few canoe models.
@marksmith9295 Yes , that's the name , I go past their place every week but ya think I could remember their name 🤣😅
I certainly know all about Giesler boats! But I didn't know they built canoes as well!
@@OpenAirOutdoors I bet their pretty expensive. I may stop in and take a look around .
Cedar canvas canoe are still being built. About 5 years ago I stopped in at Langford canoes to look at the cedar canvas canoe commissioned by The Bay, a gorgeous piece with a $8000.00 price tag! Thanks for coming out Steve✌️
Still looks great enough to try out ,shame it’s not being used ,nice v
Unfortunately it has been forgotten and time will do what it always does! Thanks pacediver✌️
I love the lines on those classic canoes. I didn't know about the old thwart though, a nice bit of history. Well done, Marc. 👍
Pretty hard not to appreciate these old classics huh! Thanks Daryl✌️
Awesome :)
Thanks Janson✌️
Great video. Very informative & told me everything I needed to know about this backpack. The extra clips showing the pack in use kept my attention & showed you went a step above the others! Keep adding those clips & you will surely grab everyone else’s attention too!
I'm happy this was helpful to you and many thanks for the kind words, it was my intentions to produce a true review and not a table top with specs! Take care GS✌️
Great review. This is the kind of review I like to see. Well edidted. The video clips of you actually using it in the field made everything you spoke on clear and concise. Well thought out , perfect execution. Thanks for taking the time to put this together to share your thoughts. I feel more confident in purchasing this pack now.
Thank you so much for the kind words David! I'm glad you enjoyed it, and just as a follow up, I have been using this pack extensively year round and it is holding up quite well👍
Thanks for the video. This is useful reference information.
You are very welcome! Have fun with it all👍
Stated that log fire like a pro - thanks Marc!
Thanks Ed👍
Nice fire, Marc. Stay safe and stay cool
Sure will Sean! You as well👍
Hello Marc, how much heat escapes if you were sitting by the fire 🔥. I can see if you put a pot on top of the logs where the fire is that it’d boil quickly. I haven’t seen the long logs being burnt this way when I go camping.
The idea behind it is the fire/heat extends the length of your body while sleeping. Also stacking logs this way will have them burn less intense but for longer duration. Take care Paul, see you next time✌
Riley will be making the fire soon--Training continues!
More likely for me to cook him supper 😆
Hi Marc - good cooking indeed. The moose steak sandwiches looked amazing - Awesome video and glad you’re feeling better - thanks and cheers
The steak sandwich was awesome good👍 And yes I am feeling much better! Thanks Ed✌️
Most people exist nowadays, you live life my man.Kudos u Sahha
Thank you for the kind words my friend, I never wanted to be that guy on the couch in my old age wishing I should of done all the things! Be safe be well✌️
I’ll never forget the black flys at young lake lodge in Ontario, crazy times. I enjoyed the video my friend, a person can learn a-lot from you.
Yes black flys are always memorable huh! Thanks for coming out Paul✌️
I didn't hold back, words to live by! Great trip, man secret lake is nice !
Sometimes we just have to live large😆 Thanks EC✌️
Marc.....Gawd! Just watching you make that cheese steak had my belly rumbling! A++++ camping cuisine! Glad you're feeling better and thanks for brining me along!
HAHA! Sorry buddy didn't mean to do that to ya! Glad your enjoying the show! Take care and get that line wet Tyler✌️
This whole video has convinced me to get a break action and not a pump action. My Uncle told me to try one or the other but seeing these beautiful guns and the simplicity of how to use them, thank you! (This will be my first shotgun I've shot others but I want to handle them better)
Congradulations in advance for your future aquasition(s) Get out there and enjoy it all my friend✌️
Oh my goodness the flies are insane. Glad to have run across your videos. Thanks for sharing
Thank you so much for being here Rick✌️
Fish Steaks, Elk Steaks, Beer, Pancake, Camp, Wow Dude That's Great BLESSINGS TO YOU.
Glad you enjoyed your visit Coyote! Be safe in your deserts out there! Thanks again✌️
Great job Marc! Black flies are the worst! Well edited, great drone shots, excellent cooking and extremely entertaining…one of your best videos to date! Loved it Brother! 👊🏻🍻
I got a little help with the drone😉 I figured you would get a chuckle with Valley Girl😆 Thanks brother🍻
Only thing coming to mind is ''c'est de la mouche en tabarnack!''
🤣 Oui mons ami✌️
Hey Marc. Id say that's the worse case of bugs I've ever seen. That was quite the trip, you didn't disappoint. You are the king of outdoors.
Not sure about king but those bugs didn't get the best of me🤣 Thanks Kenny, I appreciate it✌️
Secret Lake....yessssss Island Camp...yessssss Buckwheat pancakes ...yessssss Always better than working !!!! Great video Marc !! 👍👍🌲🌲🌲🇨🇦🍻
🤣🤣🤣 Thanks Buddy glad you enjoyed it🍻
Great video, Marc. The bugs looked absolutely brutal, man.
The North with its Boreal forest is black flie country my friend! Thanks as always John✌️
Oh boy yummy feed
HAHA! Sure is! Thanks Jason✌️
Crazy amount of flies! That's a great spot to catch a little wind at least. Drone footage was a nice addition. Buckwheat pancakes 👍🏻
Yes the camp site is on the very top of the island and with the cutting back of brush and dead fall over the years the wind can blow through the site. I'm still learning the drone so expect more of that👍 Thanks RL✌️
awesome trip , the food looked amazing . You are lucky to have a place to go like that . 👍🏻🍺
I really am lucky! Thanks for coming along Del✌️
The flies LOVE you Marc!! The wind-fallen tree could not have been more perfect. Have you ever looked up the Jack Links "Messin' With Sasquatch" videos? They are too funny. Check them out. Bummer about the nasal infection. That must be uncomfortable (but probably not as uncomfortable as sharing a tent with Doug after he eats baked beans). We Love pancakes! Yours looked delicious too. Another fun time (for the flies) at Secret lake! The jalapeno Havarti made me hungry! Great Video. Have a fantastic week ahead! (and a pat for Lexie and Riley).
I have the right flavour of blood for those guys! No Doug allowed in my tent!! Let me know what you think of my recipe? Thanks Craig you have a great week as well✌️
Marc in my opinion you are a great cook. Everything you cook looks delicious! I enjoyed this adventure except for those black flies
Lexy felt the same! She stayed in the tent until the food came out😆 Thanks John✌️
We've been lucky with the blackflies this year, so we're wondering what mosquito season will be like now here in NS. Spent yourself some pretty marvelous days out there...that's the way to live. Hope the nasal infection has cleared up as I know that they can be brutal. Take good care and enjoy the new week ahead.
We have had a heat wave so the black flies has been mostly killed off but as soon as night falls the mosquitoes come out in full force! I'm healthy again so back to business 😆 Thanks for coming along✌️
Howdy Marc- sorry to hear you’ve been a bit under the weather lately. Great outing on your Secret Lake. I don’t think I could handle the black flies. They sounded like a swarm of bees. Enjoyed the video. God bless
Swarm is exactly right! I have over come my illnesses finally, so all is good here👍 Thanks Paul✌️
Great video Marc. Love to see you conquer the outdoors!
Conquering the outdoors!I like that! I'll make it a future video title😆👍 Thanks for coming along Joel✌️
Great trip! The food looked delicious as always. The blackflies are crazy this year, a bit of smoke should keep them at bay. Thanks for sharing this adventure. Take care Marc!
Yes they are super terrible this year but nothing were not used to huh! Thanks Andy✌️
A nice outing for sure despite the black flies Marc. Knowing what to expect and being prepared is half the battle. I sure dont miss those conditions where you cant escape them so being on the water is the best refuge. Hope things are getting better healthwise and being outdoors improves things. As a kid we always stopped in Sudbury going camping on Lac aux Sables so seeing the slag cars dump their firey loads was a highlight. Dad grew up in Sudbury in the 30s and 40s and shared lots of memories of those times. I can still tell them he repeated them so often. His Dad operated an IGA store on Elm Street for years before starting Ritchie Falls Lodge during WW2. So now, thanks to you its time for pancakes:) Salut!
Thats awesome stuff! And in those days Sudbury was a black rock!! Your father and grand father wouldn't recognize the place now!! Born and raised in the north we are always ready for flies season and most couldn't handle it!😆 Thanks Mark✌️
Sudbury has indeed been transformed from those days of barren and blackened rock. It has been heartening seeing the vegetation restoration success over the years and fortunately my Dad was able to see the changes before passing at the age of 92 in 2019. Be safe out there Marc:)
Nice video! Lucky you can take your grandson out. Mine is out west and not here very often. Maybe some day.
