    Damn Marc !! Good call getting out of there for the night ! I've only had to hike back to the truck once because of Mother Nature ! 11:30 at night and gale force winds hit while I was solo in a Hemlock forest. Went back to camp in the morning and there was a tree laying right beside the tent !
    On another note, I agree with you on the warmth of those coats !! Was a licensed HD Mechanic for 30 years before "retiring" and those things saved my bacon a few times working out in sub zero temps !
    Great video as always my friend !!

    .That place is spectacular, you are good at preparing camps my friend. The big problem is when nature does not behave according to what meteorological services predict and there is a great risk of risking life in places as extreme as those. You are very brave friend. BLESSINGS TO YOU.

    Well, Marc, you dodged a bullet! That could have gone either way! When water comes up onto the ice it can be difficult to know if it is solid ice beneath or if it has become open water. Good call in getting the basics packed up and hiking out to the truck. I may have told this story but years ago in Nova Scotia, I went ice fishing in a salt water bay fed by a river. The bay freezes out about a mile or so then turns soft and then open water. There were a lot of people out there that day and the ice was heavy enough to drive vehicles onto it. I had a little Chevy Chevette and I parked it on the ice far from where the ice fishing was taking place. I left it on solid ice with no water showing. At almost dark, I returned to the car and found it sitting in a puddle of water about 30 feet on all sides of the car. The water on top of the ice was about 3 inches deep. I made the decision to walk slowly to the car, get in, open all the windows and drive it off the ice. It was scary and I would not want to be out there again. That was the last time I went ice fishing in that spot, but fished some in BC since. When water comes up like that it's time to bail and quick! Glad you are here to tell the tale. Too bad about your light. Next summer it'll come up on a fishing rod! LOL Be careful out there!!

      I can go on for ever about winter outings and ice fishing mishaps. I have gone through the ice 7 times in my life. Walking, snow machine, pickup trucks Bombardier track machine, you name it! Thats why I don't do a lot of winter activities anymore. Even snow shoeing in the woods can land you in deep shit!
      Thanks for sharing Craig🍻

      @@OpenAirOutdoorsIce of any kind deserves that we tread upon it with caution. I'm not a big fan of being on it anymore. That experience you just had must have been scary. I'm glad you got out of there safely. It was still a spectacular wilderness spot and the video of the frozen lake surrounded by pristine forest is very cool. I also very much enjoyed the story of your light falling through into the lake. I wonder if it's still ON? Be well and take care, Marc.

    How's she goin'? Well this trip went south eh!! It looked like such a nice day when you started out too. But lakes are bad for the layers of ice like that. The water layer between the ice layers never freezes. Good plan that you left and spent the night in the truck!! Nice drone footage though Marc. That sure was a nice spot!! Glad you made out OK. re-occurring viewer, sounds like something you might need a cream for ;) Slushy minnow bag makes it easier to grab them? sweet cot! RIP the light. Oh man that would been horrible to wake up in the middle of the night, what a mess. Definitely the right call. So what do you think happened, was it just like the tides or?

    • @OpenAirOutdoors
      @OpenAirOutdoors  4 месяца назад +1

      The minnows don't stand a chance in slush😆 This is actually a common occurrence, when the ice is not thick and solid the weight of the snow can force the ice down causing water to seep up through cracks flooding the ice surface. But with a thick blanket of snow you get slush!
      Thanks for coming out EC✌️
